Anyone else catch that amazing ass-grab in the post-game sportsmanship rituals? It was a full grab and then at least 2-3 shakes of the cheek.

Also, while May and Walsh seem like nice enough laides, they don't come across on tv as the brightest bulbs in the junk drawer. And Misty May is a great porn name.

I was listening to an interview and it seemed like there was a man playing for the US softball team. Then I looked up and saw it was Crystal Bustos. She sounds like a normal man.

It was Bonds/McGwire like. I challenge anyone to mix Bustos voice with any four other mens voices and let people try to guess who is the woman.

Now the penalty shootout in mens field hockey game between Germany and Holland. For pure sports excitement, this might be my most fun day ever for the sheer number of great games.

Okay, so this afternoon BBC interactive had the USA/Cuba baseball semi-final listed from 3:30 for three hours. Not only did they start earlier than that but after 7 1/2 innings.
So I thought that maybe it was on a computer timing and so would start from the start at the actual time. But no. Instead it went to Olympic News. I don't know why they bothered showing that amount when it was allotted the full length. Even if the original recording failed (and I'm sure they could get another copy sent to them from the IBC). They're showing both medal games tomorrow but I shall not bother wasting my time after today's debacle. |

Steve Hooker became the first Australian in 60 years to win a field gold medal when he took out the men's pole vault, breaking the Olympic record in the process.

That guy should be spending a lengthy time in a Chinese prison, not just getting a lifetime ban. That was completely unacceptable. I don't care if you think the officiating is rigged, you don't do that. That could have seriously injured that judge.

Aside from the murder on day one, you have not seen too much in the way of any serious crime. That one guy who ruined the 2004 marathon was nowhere to be seen, since China would have for sure locked him up and tossed the key. |

Awesome basketball game to close out the Olympics. This has definitly been the best Olympics of my lifetime. This last 2 weeks has been one thrill after another in many sports I know little about. Cage up the Chavs and lets go to London!!

NBC also did a great job, with some of the best coverage ever. They had a nice blend of the human interest stories and did not always focus on American athletes or even the best athletes. The longest tape delays were for track & field, with many events shown live or almost live. The online coverage was outstanding, though I did not use it as much as I expected I would (the video is still too small too enjoy for an extended period and hopefully by 2010 and 2012, they will have this on demand via set top box). Apparently these are the most watched games ever on television and NBC has clearly won in the ratings. Apparently NBC makes pretty good money off the games, but they earned their keep with these games. I'm already looking forward to Vancouver in 2010 and London in 2012. Hoping Chicago gets 2016. These Olympics affirmed my desire to visit China and only kept the dream alive of attending the games someday (my dad went in 1960 and I have always wanted to go myself). |

I think it's strange that in the semifinal heats for the 4x400m relay, a Russian sprinter (I believe he was Russian) finished first in the end ahead of the highly touted Jamaican team (who really just wanted to qualify without expending much energy) and held his finger up to his lips after crossing the finish line. The color commentator went nuts, saying that was uncalled for in these games and that it may just inspire Bolt to run for Jamaica in the finals of the event. Kobe Bryant does the EXACT same thing in this game and nobody says a word. Is it because everybody else is held to a double standard? We can do it, but anybody else does it to us or any other nation and it's a faux pas?
I just don't see it. I also didn't care for how this team played at times. I have never been a fan of really showing off in a non-exhibition game and too many times this team passed up easy layups to throw alley-oops and things of this nature. Maybe I'm too old school.
