Pin this loss on the bullpen. Why bring in Marshall early (6th inning) of a one-run ballgame? And let him face 3 righties (switchy Crisp, Lugo. Youkilis)? Isn't his game tailor-made for LOOGY usage? Funny how he's higher in the bullpen pecking order than the guy with a more conventional delivery, DiNardo.
I also would have liked to see Gaudin pitch through the 6th. If he's supposed to stay in the rotation even with the return of Harden or Loaiza, he'll need to be able to go deeper into games. Do the coaches still think he's not stretched out yet? They'll have to let him keep pitching deeper into games if he's ever going to make the full transition to SP |

Langerhans didn't last long...he's been shipped out for Chris Snelling. Also, it looks like Piazza could be out with a sprained shoulder.

Snelling has put up some impressive minor league numbers over his career, and PECOTA love him. Plus, he walks fairly often and always works the count until he gets a pitch that he likes. So what's wrong with him? Injuries. Lots of them. Sounds like he'll fit in perfectly with the current group in Oakland.

It doesn't look like Snelling can play CF. I'm guessing this puts Stewart in the middle until Bradley gets off the DL, since Swisher's gimpy leg will limit him to DHing in Piazza's place. Once Kotsay comes back that would make it 6 starting centerfielders the A's will have put in their starting lineup. Where was the chapter on injury-risk players in Moneyball?

Can't believe the A's got Snelling. As a Mariner fan, I want him back.
Straight up for Washburn or Weaver. Or Both. With a link to the cult and its response: http://ussmariner.com/2007/05/02/doy...e-as/#comments Last edited by AD31; 05-03-2007 at 01:26 AM. |

They already did, which is why Putnam and Braden were on the team.

And why Billy was trading players to be named later..... We don't have anybody left.

Yeah.
At this point I'm wondering if the PTBNL's will all be themselves traded back to their original teams.

According to Ken Rosenthal, Beane is working on another trade after losing Piazza.
Any guesses? The article says "presumably a DH-type" so I'll guess Johnny Gomes from Tampa.

Have they gone sour on Barton? Now seems like a perfect time to get his feet wet as the DH.

Nah, Barton's only 21 and isn't hitting too well in AAA right now. Better to use a retread for a little while.

I guess we should all be happy that we have a AAA team playing right now pretty much on offense and we're only 2.5 back.

McBeth was the first of 2 PTBNL's traded for Denorfia.

Meh. Not really. What's more valuable to you, an above average outfielder (which Denorfia projects to be) or a decent middle reliever?
