I was scanning through Catobase and I ran across a player that promises to be my favorite non-created player: Dangerfield Talbert

End of July 1910 Baseball Report:
from the Confederate Baseball Weekly, August 1, 1910:
DIXIE THRUSH FLYING HIGH - The Louisville Gears have soared to the top of the Dixie League standings, led by their very own "Thrush" - Sammy Strang. The third baseman is having himself together a career season. Thus far, he's hitting .366 to lead the Confederate leagues, scored 78 runs and is turning in solid defensive play at the hot corner. With the surprising Atlanta Crackers just a half-game back and the ever-dangerous Baltimore Orioles one back, the Gears need their Dixie Thrush to keep soaring. SMOKEY JOE FIRES UP HAVANA - Rookie fireballer "Smokey" Joe Williams has the Havana club sitting pretty in the Caribbean League race. So far, the big right-hander from Texas has established himself as the ace of the staff. He's 19-5 with a 1.81 ERA. You'd think he'd be satisfied, but the lanky Texan is disappointed with his control - he's allowed 69 walks in 228-plus innings - and vows to work on improving what he views as his weakest point. Most hitters would say that Joe doesn't have a weak point. from the Sporting Way, August 1, 1910: 'JACKS SUFFER BIG LOSS - Connie Mack's Portland Lumberjacks, currently just a game behind the Angels in the Pacific League race, recently suffered a major setback. Star hurler "Big Ed" Walsh was lost for the season to a bicep injury. With the ace down, Mack is going to have to rely on his offense and hope his remaining pitchers can keep the team in ballgames. Lew Richie took Walsh's spot on the roster and has won his first three starts - if he keeps it up, then Portland's pennant-hopes may not be dashed. AGING WAGNER HOPES FOR ANOTHER TITLE - Honus Wagner, long considered the dean of ballplayers, is now 36 years old and his team, the Philadelphia Patriots has been on or near the top ever since he joined them in a 1904 trade with Portland. Now Honus and his team have built a big lead in the Federal League race, sitting six games ahead of second-place Chicago. Wagner is no longer the star - that mantle has passed to third baseman Saul Eisenkamp, but he still is a key component of John McGraw's crew. He plays a steady shortstop, and his hitting - though not as solid as it once was - is still strong, with a .295 average this season. Code:

Tanny Hangs 'Em Up
from the Confederate Baseball Weekly, August 8, 1910:
Jesse Tannehill has declared that henceforth he will no longer wear two hats for the Louisville Gears. The original skipper and pitching ace for the Gears has decided to take the mound no more. "It's time," he said. "I had a late start after my military career, so I knew that I wouldn't pitch for long, and this is my fifth season and I just can't pitch the way I want to, and the way the team needs me to. So I'm going to concentrate on managing." Asked whether he thought about retiring from managing as well, Tannehill laughed and said, "Heck, no! I'll be in the dugout until (team owner) Mr. Olds kicks me out. We've got some championships to win, son!"

I'm going to be offline for a week, so there'll be no updates, but the dynasty will definitely continue, so please hang in there.

1910 U.S. Regular Season Recap
from the Sporting Way, October 10, 1910:
COLLINS COMES INTO HIS OWN - Young Eddie Collins, the college-educated second sacker for the Oakland Oaks, nicknamed "Cocky" for his self-assured manner on the diamond, captured his first batting title with a U.S.-best .355 and helped the Oakland Oaks capture their first Pacific League pennant. Said Collins, "This is just the beginning. We've still got a lot of work ahead of us, starting with the Philadelphias." Yep, John J. McGraw's Philadelphia nine is back in the postseason, winning the Federal League pennant for the fifth straight season. LEDBETTER SEES AVERAGE DROP, BUT INCREASES 'POP' - Royce Ledbetter, one of the talented trio of Los Angeles flycatchers, hit .368 in 1909 to cement his place among the league's elite batsmen. This season, his average dipped to .302, but his upped his longball stats, as he connected for a U.S.-best eight, up from just one a year ago. Asked for an explanation, the youngster shrugged and said, "Tonic." 'BUMPUS' WINS THIRTY - Elijah Jones, affectionately known as "Bumpus" to Oakland partisans and Oak players, reached a rare milestone when he notched his 30th victory of the season on October 2nd against Portland. Jones made 43 starts this season, and finished with a 30-12 record with six shutouts, a big reason why the Oaks finally captured a Pacific League pennant. RUBE LEADS PHILA TO ANOTHER PENNANT - McGraw's men in Philadelphia have won five straight Fed crowns, and ask any of them for the key to last couple of those flags and they'll answer, "Rube's the reason." And indeed he is, as Andrew "Rube" Foster, expatriate of the Confederacy and ace of the United States, polished off another outstanding season on the hill. Foster went 25-9 with a sterling 1.94 ERA (best in the U.S.) and also struck out 169 batsment (also tops in the U.S.). But Foster is not satisfied, saying he hopes to "down the Oaks and then put down whatever team the Confederates send us." Final Standings, 1910: Code:

1910 C.S. Regular Season Recap
from the Confederate Baseball Weekly, October 10, 1910:
POP LLOYD HAS SEASON FOR THE AGES - Much has been made in the past about the superlatives skills of Miami shortstop John Henry Lloyd. Though just 26 years of age, the mature play of this superb player has earned him the nickname "Pop" - and he has once again topped himself in 1910. Pop's tremendous season saw him win the first-ever Confederate Triple Crown. Lloyd hit .360 (best in all of baseball, including our northerly cousins), and hit an astounding 28 homeruns while driving in 103 runs - all easily the best in all of Confederate baseball. Lloyd outhomered every team in ALL of baseball except Philadelphia (28), Atlanta (29), Santo Domingo (35) and Leesburg (41). An amazing performance from an amazing player. DIXIE THRUSH LEADS LOUISVILLE TO PENNANT - It was just another year at the office for the Dixie Thrush, Sammy Strang. Strang his .325 - just like he did in 1909 - to lead the Gears and also scored 110 runs, the tops in Confederate baseball. Teaming with young Napoleon Wilde, who led the team in runs batted in, Strang and the Gears will be a tough matchup in the postseason for Pop Lloyd and the Superbas. ROOKIE WILLIAMS IS FAR AND AWAY BEST MOUNDSMAN IN 1910 - "Smokey Joe" Williams is, without a doubt, the winner of the top rookie honors for 1910. He's also inarguably the best pitcher in Confederate - and possibly ALL of - baseball. All the tall right-hander did in his first pro season: 27-10 record, 1.59 earned run average, and 347 strikeouts in 367-plus innings. He held opponents to a .191 average and allowed less than a baserunner per inning. A fantastic season for the 25-year-old newcomer. FINAL STANDINGS, 1910: Code:

Oaks Take Title in 1910
from the Sporting Way, October 25, 1910:
COLLINS LEADS OAKS TO WORLD'S TITLE - Call him "Cocky" (as many do), if you wish, but Eddie Collins delivered. The young keystoner paced his Oakland Oaks to the world's championship, as they made light work of the heavily-favored Philadelphians by a margin of four games to one for the U.S. title and then swept the "exhibition" match series with the Louisville club (champions of the Confederate league) in two straight. OAKS TOO MUCH FOR PHILADELPHIA - Things started out well for the Oaks as they took game one from Philadelphia - in the City of Brotherly Love - behind a strong pitching performance from Bumpus Jones and a five-run top of the ninth, for a 6-1 win. Game two saw catcher Admiral Schlei drive in three runs as the Oaks took the game 4-2 to lead the series two-nothing heading west. Game three was won by the visitors, 8-6, as Philly plated three runs in the ninth to avoid falling into a three-to-nothing hole. Game four had the Oaks right back on top as they took command of the series with a one-sided 9-2 win with Bumpus Jones again sterling on the hill and Eddie Collins and Beals Becker each contributing a pair of RBIs. In game five the Oaks vanquished the foe by a score of 9-1. Collins drove in three runs with his second straight three-hit game and Bill Grahame held the Philadelphians one run on six hits. A livid John McGraw stomped on his cigar in the dugout at the conclusion of the game. LOUISVILLE EDGES PAST HAVANA FOR C.S. CROWN - Like the Oaks, the Gears took the first two games, also on the road, winning 2-1 in game one and plating two in the ninth to take game two by a score of 6-4. Sammy Strang, Rebel Oakes and Nap Wilde were all key components to the Gears' first two victories. Games three and four in Louisville were both extra inning affairs, with Havana edging the Gears in game three by a 2-1 margin in 10 innings. The fourth tilt took 13 innings to determine a victor, with Louisville's Hans Lobert driving home Dustin Flesher with the winner in a 6-5 contest. Havana took games five and six to tie the series at three apiece, but a four-run sixth in game seven for the Gears was the difference as Louisville won 6-3 to take the Confederate championship. PITCHING DOMINATES AS OAKLAND DEFEATS LOUISVILLE - It was close, very close, but Oakland won both games of the short "World's Championship" exhibition with the Confederate-champion Louisville Gears. Game one saw Louisville's Bumpus Jones match Oakland's Howie Camnitz almost pitch-for-pitch, but Danny Green's two runs scored and Eddie Collins pair of hits, allowed the Oaks to edge past Louisville, 3 to 1 to take game one in Oakland. "Sunny Jim" Dygert was just too much for the Gears to handle in game two as he held them to just three hits and struck out 11 in a 2-0 win for the Oaks. Nux James had three of Oakland's six hits, and drove in one of the runs. Collins was held hitless for the first time in the postseason, but did complete the playoff season with a .467 batting average. In the post-series press meeting, Albert Spalding and Clark Griffith announced that the 1911 season would be capped with a best-of-seven "official" world's championship series between the U.S. and Confederate champions.

1911 Rookie Player Allocation
