That's a good idea. I have made coaching decisions by firing bad coaches/GMs/scouts in favor of good for some teams with bad choices in their hiring decisions. But I could use an "events" roll to trigger coaches' stat changes for better or worse.

Veracious, Vivacious, Vainglorious Vision of the Vim! Leagues

Vim! League Preview

With the season just a day away, it is time to talk Vim! baseball. First of all, Dalton Farm and Far Harbor are expected to play for the Vim! Series. It would be a rematch of the 2304 and 2305 Vim! Series, both won by the Fog Crawlers.

The Crawlers are picked to edge the Echo Lake Harbormen in the Fog Division. The Harbormen have won the division two of the past three seasons. Eden Meadows is picked third and National Park is picked fourth. Dalton Farm and Echo Lake have won the division the past six years. The Fog Crawlers and Harbormen met in the Vim! Series in 2302 when Dalton Farm played in the Harbor Division. The only other Fog Division winner was Brooke's Head in 2301 when the league was a 10-team league. The Anglers and Gulpers have never won the division.

Grand Hotel, which has won the past two Vim! Series and Season Pass Series, is picked to finish in a three-way tie for second (i.e., last) in the Harbor Division. Like the Fog Division, the Harbor Division has been dominated by two teams outside of Dalton Farm's time in the division: the Ghoul Whales and Atoms. Neither the Acadians nor the Hermit Crabs have ever won the division.

Dalton Farm is expected to be the top offense in the league with CF Toppie Gunn and 3B Ryan Morris expected to battle for the hitting crown. 1B Angus McGuyver of Acadia and RF Chris Knickerbocker of Echo Lake are the other top contenders.

On the mound, the Fog Crawlers are also considered the best, but the Harbormen's SP Jason Woods is expected to be the top pitcher. Other contenders are SP Phil Cecil of Dalton Farm, SP Steady Mike Holmes of Eden Meadows, and SP Justin Wentworth of the Fog Crawlers.

Prospects to Watch

The top prospects have been identified. According to present projections, of the Top 10, only two are expected to start in the VL: 1B Elijah de Love of National Park and 3B Tomik Bellgarde of Cranberry Island.

The other eight Top 10 prospects will begin the season in either the MDIL or the VRL. They are:

1. RF Grey Epperson, Acadia
3. 2B Punkin Mushmouth, Far Harbor
5. SP Plus Erazo, National Park
6. SP Alex Soda, National Park
7. 1B Jeff Aladdin, Dalton Farm
8. SP Smudge Steam, Echo Lake
9. C Goodman James, National Park
10. 1B Rush Clovis, National Park

Youth Players to Watch

1B Home Run Baker, Beaver Creek
LF Jeff Ensuzy, Beaver Creek
LF Damien Fogcrawler, National Park
LF Firestarter Saugus, Pleasant Cove
3B Ourboy Payton, Echo Point
SP Dodge Losang, Beaver Creek
SP Hawk Dawson, Cliff's Edge

I've just been sitting here drinking beer and watching college baseball. Florida State blew it big time, so Tennessee is back in control of its destiny. As an LSU fan, Tennessee is currently the grand enemy, so I was pulling for Florida State to pull it off. Tennessee is loaded, though, and have a good chance to be the first #1 team to win the championship this century. The last to do it was Miami in 1999.

The May Super Post, Part 1

CBO Analysis

We are now at the 20% mark of the regular season, and we have a few teams starting to look dominant, and several other teams starting to fade away. The defending champions are ahead of the rest of their association by four games. Bunker Hill, which we had dead in the water in our last update is just one game back of 1st place. Jamaica Plain started off 6-15 but have since pulled off five straight. Let's take a look at the Power Rankings and then break down the leagues. Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) Vault 81 Dwellers (151.5, +)
2) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (141.5, +)
3) Egret Ninjas (129.6, +)
4) Oberland T-51s (118.7, --)
5) Spectacle Island Reapers (115.8, +)
6) County Crossing Bloodbugs (106.8, ++)
7) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (106.8, ++)
8) Concord Radstags (104.8, --)
9) Bunker Hill 75ers (101.9, o)
10) Nahant Celtics (101.9, ++)
11) Lexington Synths (96.9, o)
12) Roxbury Rad Sox (93.0, ++)
13) Goodneighbor Hancocks (91.0, ++)
14) University Point Deathclaws (89.1, ++)
15) Diamond City Swatters (88.1, ++)
16) Starlight Killers (85.1, ++)
17) FHE Yao Guai (85.0, --)
18) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (85.0, --)
19) Easy Town Assaultrons (84.1, --)
20) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (81.2, ++)
21) The Slog Ghouls (78.0, --)
22) Quincy Gunners (73.1, --)
23) Salem Witch Hats (60.2, --)
24) Cambridge Coursers (55.3, --)
25) Atom Cats (54.3, -)
26) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (52.4, o)
27) Malden Grognaks (52.4, -)
28) Southie Brews (37.5, -)

Brotherhood League

Nordhagen Beach has gotten super hot, and The Slog has gotten super cold. What that has meant is a swing in the Ghouls starting in 1st and now dropping to 4th, and the Party Boys are now just a game back of #1 Vault 81 for the CBO's top record.

County Crossing has not wowed anyone yet, but the Bloodbugs are currently in 2nd place in the BL and tied for 2nd for the NCA's 2nd-best record. The amazing part is that the offense has struggled, currently tied for 9th in runs scored (111). Preseason Nuka Hitter Award pick, RF Babs Rooth (,269/3/5), has struggled so far this season. LF Kurt Kilgore (.356/3/14) and 1B Zeldolph Violet (.272/8/23) have picked up the slack.

Institute League

The tightest league in the CBO with the last place Cambridge just six games back of 1st place, the IL continues to be an interesting league year after year. While we expect the end of the season to go as planned with Sunshine Tidings, currently tied for 1st place with Concord, Bunker Hill, and Starlight to be at the top and in playoff contention.

We have no idea if the Radstags are good or not, but they are currently tied for the NCA's second-best record. The Stags are 1st in the NCA in runs scored (149) and in the top half of every category but stolen bases (tied for 12th with two). Rookie 1B Heddic Volunnar (.227/8/20) leads the team in home runs. Four players are batting above .300: CF Duff Fee (.343/5/15), 3B Lightning Rod Forth (.337/5/18), 2B Wolf McQuaid (.322/2/14), and LF Forrest Library (.318/2/11).

Minutemen League

This league has been the most disappointing early in the season with just one team, Spectacle Island, above .500. We already mentioned in our lead that the Red Rockets have suddenly gotten hot despite a horrid start. University Point is also on a four-game winning streak and has the second-best offense in the CBO behind Vault 81.

Goodneighbor is sitting there at .500 and might be a team worth watching with its young crop of performers. People already know about CF Missile Crews (.361/4/20) and his star power, but the offense is 12th in runs scored (103). Where the Hancocks have strived is with their three early-20s starters for a team 4th in Starters ERA (3.75) helping them to be 5th in runs allowed (109). SPs Heaven Fontenot (1-2, 3.59), Oliver Oil (4-2, 2.50), and Clubhouse Treelover (2-2, 4.35) have been serviceable, helping the Hancocks to stay competitive.

Railroad League

The RL is the toughest league, with Vault 81, Egret, and Oberland all wielding three of the CBO's top four records. Three other teams--Roxbury, FHE, and Diamond City--are also not bad, though not good, either.

The Dwellers are the team to look at now that they have added another star player in 1B Hax Kim (.326/15/39). Kim is a player one would call a late bloomer. Drafted in the 9th round of the 2305 draft, Kim was OK on potential and below average on results with Truro. After hitting .343/31/79 with Covenant of the BMU and finishing with Everett of the MML, Kim is now in early contention for the Nuka Hitter Award. Offensive success in not only from Kim, though, as Vault 81 is the CBO's top team in runs scored (164). The top of the lineup is deadly with RF Joe Rathmann (.300/6/17), 2B Harry Byrd (.307/7/18), and CF Stu Gains (.278/6/21).

CBO Standings

CBO Players of the Month

NCA Hitter - Gavin Deux-Gas may be much younger than other hitters in the North Charles Association, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in April to win the Batter of the Month award.

The 21-year-old The Slog shortstop hit .416 with 11 home runs, 30 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

SCA Hitter - Barker Cocoa battered South Charles Association pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Commonwealth Baseball Organization long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 31-year-old Cocoa told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 25 games, Cocoa hit .378 with 13 home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 29 runs.

NCA Pitcher - The North Charles Association made it official today -- Ugio Church of the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys is the Pitcher of the Month. In April he impressed the sportswriters with his domination of league hitters.

Church made 6 starts, registered 5 wins and 1 loss with a solid 1.25 ERA. In 50.1 innings he allowed 36 hits, racked up 35 strikeouts, walked 11 and permitted teams to hit .196 against him.

SCA Pitcher - No doubt about it!
Egret starter Tup Mallory earned his South Charles Association Pitcher of the Month award.
He made that very clear as he mowed his way through league hitters in April.
During the month Mallory chalked up a 4-0 record with a 2.05 ERA.

The Ninjas star made 6 starts and surrendered 36 hits in 48.1 innings. He struck out 47 and walked 19.

NCA Rookie - Foo Fieterz's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Fort Hagen right fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month.

During the month he hit .247 with no doubles, 1 triple and 7 home runs. Fieterz also scored 17 times and drove in 17 runs.

SCA Rookie - Hax Kim earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the South Charles Association for last month's performance. The boyish Vault 81 first baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Kim hit .311 with 13 home runs, 32 RBIs and 23 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

CBO Players of the Week

April 25 - 21-year-old Mountainside Rockhand sent shock waves through Commonwealth Baseball Organization last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award.

A newcomer to the league, Rockhand made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .444 average, 12 hits in 27 at-bats, 6 home runs and 8 RBI.

Where the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys first baseman goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Rockhand certainly made his mark last week.

Rockhand has a .375 average and a .416 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 27 hits, 10 home runs and driven in 17 runs.

The South Charles Association made it official today: Barker Cocoa is the Player of the Week.

He really sparkled on the diamond this week with a .478 average to take home the trophy. The University Point first baseman went 11-for-23, drove in 9 runs, scored 7 times and hit 5 home runs.

This year Cocoa is batting .360 with 11 home runs and 23 RBIs.

May 2 - Mountainside Rockhand stepped up to the plate in a big way last week and today he took home the North Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

The Nordhagen Beach first baseman ripped opposing pitchers for 12 hits in 26 at-bats and 4 home runs. He put together a sizzling .462 batting average as he knocked in 9 runs and scored 5 times.

For the season Rockhand is currently batting .398 with 14 home runs and 26 RBIs. In 25 games he has reached base at a .443 rate and scored 24 runs to date.

When Makin Jobear stepped into the batter's box, he meant business. His outstanding play this week has netted the FHE left fielder the well-deserved South Charles Association Player of the Week Award.

Playing in 6 games he lashed out a .583 average with 14 hits, 1 home run, 6 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

This season in 25 games Jobear is batting .343 with 6 home runs, 16 RBIs and has scored 18 times.

I'm struggling with a few things for my dynasty right now and wonder how I should approach it. You see, when I do my daily four-dice rolls, there are 25 possibilities, two of which are either the max event (three 1's and another number) and supermax event (all 1's). Earlier in the dynasty, this would prompt me to create a storyline. However, due to other events in the past, well, almost two years, I feel that I either move the dynasty on or get stuck on creating/continuing a storyline. When there were big gaps in my post, it was always because I needed to create a storyline and then write the narratives related to that storyline. Due to my life being consumed by being busy as an employee and full-time doctoral student, writing narratives are a bit tougher than just recording and reporting events from the baseball side.

I looked at my narratives page and there were a lot of open-ended storyline. Recently, I have just been doing something simple like changing a stadium name or reshuffling minor affiliates when rolling "events." If I cannot spend the time writing stories (already lost the Vegas connections storyline since I am past time) currently until I have my time back from completing my degree--goal May 2025!!!--some of my plans for this dynasty have to be tabled. I have ideas, like chronicles reported on after the fact, but it bothers me as a reader and a writer not to have continuity.

Anyway, I am thinking of what I can do in the meantime for my max/supermax event rolls. Constantly changing stadium names or making plans to reshuffle minor affiliations is not working, so what else can I do in its place? For reference, the other possibilities are trade, plus stats (ratings), minus stats (ratings), negative incidents, and creature attack.

Any of my readers out there have an idea for a 6th possibility? Or something in the events realm that could be "quick"? I am open to ideas!

Now, back to the predictions. I am actually surprised all four expansion teams did not get predicted to lose 100 games. While they picked up some serviceable veterans in the expansion draft, teams keep fleecing the expansion teams by trading OK prospects for those veterans that could help them go around 50-80. I have tried to balance that by giving an immediate boost in ratings to the players traded for, but it has driven me crazy that the expansion teams are giving away decent players they attained before they even played a game for that franchise.
Yeah, I suppose the predictions had the new teams a bit better than might happen IRL, which is something, but I will hoping they'd make out like bandits haha even if that's just wishful thinking. Season so far shows anything can happen though, or maybe it just took time to settle before this last post haha.

Before I comment on what would be good for a supermax, how often do you say a supermax roll occurs, like how many times per season? That'd give me a better idea of what type of power level to aim for.

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, BCAC, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

2 May 2310

The May Super Post, Part 2

MML Analysis

We are early into the 2310 season and all divisions are winnable. Divisional leaders are currently the Watertown Armorers, Lynn Fortune Finders, Wellesley Wanderers, and Plymouth Pilgrims.

MML Players of the Month

LL Hitter - Earhole Watson has a lot going for him. The Finch Farm right fielder just broke into the majors this year and now the Legends League has just picked him as its top hitter for April.

In 24 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .381 with 11 home runs, 27 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

SL Hitter - It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 21 Winslow Beaver has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young Castle Strength star can enjoy the numbers he put up in April, which have garnered him the nod as the Stars League Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .380 average with 11 home runs, 21 RBIs and 30 runs scored.

LL Pitcher - There was little doubt around the Legends League that Ethan Lynch would be awarded Pitcher of the Month honors for April. Today, they made it official, naming the 32-year-old Lynn Fortune Finders starter the latest honoree.

He thoroughly dominated the hitters who stood in against him, holding them to a .244 batting average while fashioning a 3.94 ERA in 6 starts. His record for the month was 5-0 in 45.2 innings of work.

SL Pitcher - Castle starter Joe Hanson really put the chill on opposing teams in April and today was acclaimed the Stars League Pitcher of the Month.

He excelled with a 4-1 mark and 2.40 ERA in 5 starts. In 41.1 innings, he fanned 32 and walked 11.

BMU Analysis

The BMU is the place where the young prospects start to make their mark showing what the future of the CBO will look like. Currently there are three leagues with leaders: the Taffington Boathouse Spy Hunters, Mystic Pines Raybathers, and Mass Pike Radroaches. The Downtown Boston Boston League has a tie at 11-5 with the Neponset Park Criticals and Suffolk County Pink Goo.

BMU Players of the Month

CA Hitter - Sanctuary Hills Zetans fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in April.

Cosmo Spacely put up a remarkable month at the age of 21 and has been named the Commonwealth Association Batter of the Month.

For the month, Spacely hit .377 with 9 home runs, 23 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

MA Hitter - Even though he is a newcomer to Boston Minor Union, Halber Dash put up some good numbers in April and earned the MA Batter of the Month award.

He was one of Neponset Park's offensive leaders with a .362 average in 14 games. He also racked up 10 home runs, 17 RBIs, and 17 runs scored.

CA Pitcher - The April Pitcher of the Month has been chosen and the Commonwealth Association award went to Tenpines Bluff hurler, Scott Daker.

During the month, Daker was impressive with a 2.05 ERA and 3 wins and no losses. In 30.2 innings he struck out 25 and gave up 18 hits and 12 walks.

MA Pitcher - A standout performance in April earned Gjak Ironbreaker the Pitcher of the Month Award in the Massachusetts Association. When his name was penciled in to start by the CGP skipper, it meant trouble for opposing teams. For the month the Demolitionists star racked up 3 wins and no losses.

In 27.2 innings of work, Ironbreaker limited opposing batters to 20 base hits and a .206 batting average. He notched 15 strikeouts, issued 6 walks and had a 1.63 ERA.

GBRL Analysis

The rookies and youngsters seems to have shifted in the last couple of years to young players hoping to develop their skills, but many of the top young players are now going straight to the BMU. However, there is still some talent to be found. Divisional leaders are the Croup Manor Inspectors, Sattelite Array Riflemen, Poseidon Energy Mongrels, and Greater Mass Vans.

GBRL Players of the Month

NL Hitter - Josh Tall made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the North League this past month.

The Kingsport Moon Monkeys third baseman shined through the month of April and has won the Batter of the Month award.

The 18-year-old hit .412 with 9 home runs, 25 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

SL Hitter - For a rookie just breaking in, Luff Gurr certainly put together a successful month. It was good enough to win the SL Batter of the Month award for April.

The 18-year-old catcher for the Cabot House Triggermen hit .370 with 10 home runs, 24 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

NL Pitcher - The Union Hope Lifegivers felt very secure when they sent Tex Ranger out to the hill last month. The 19-year-old starter went after North League hitters with a vengeance and earned April's Pitcher of the Month award.

He went 3-0 with a 1.64 ERA as he struck out 24 in 22 innings over 3 starts.

SL Pitcher - A 3-0 record with a 2.81 ERA is a good month for most any pitcher. The South League thought it was worthy of an award and named Rorshach Glass, starter for the DB Tech Nuclear Physicists, April's Pitcher of the Month.

He also held the opposition to a .153 average while posting 47 strikeouts in 32 innings.

BCAC Analysis

After CBO commissioner Nate Howard suggested an expansion to the college circuit, there is suddenly a buzz with several talented players joining before pursuing solid careers in the Commonwealth or the CBO. Current divisional leaders are the Harvard Crimson and Mass Bay University Beacons in the early season.

BCAC Players of the Month

Hitter - At only 18 years of age, Dexion Evicus could very well have many more months like this last one during his career.

That would be great news for fans of the CIT Engineers, as April was one to remember for the right fielder and he has captured the Boston Collegiate Athletic Conference Batter of the Month award.

On the month he hit .540 with 7 home runs, 20 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Pitcher - Sheldon Helton hasn't been around long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Boston Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In April the Harvard starter earned a 3-0 mark in 4 starts. He threw 29 innings, struck out 17 and compiled a solid 1.86 ERA.

CYL Analysis

The CYL season is chugging along with players vying to make a name for themselves to go to the top of the CBO draft within the next four years. As we enter the third month of the season, below are the divisional leaders:

Franklin: Sudbury Celebs
Emerson: CIT Academy Yahoos and Lexington Minuteboys
Fuller: South Charles Bank Moonies
Revere: Woburn Diners
Adams: Hope Firestarters
Alcott: Spectacle Island Specters
Morse: Taunton Giants
Attucks: Truro Hatchlings

CYL Players of the Month

NR Hitter - Puddle Norman is not used to being associated with Batter of the Month-caliber players, but today the Malden shortstop joined that select company when the North Region announced the results of April's voting.

Norman totaled 38 hits, 12 walks, 15 home runs, 33 RBIs and 26 runs scored last month to put together a .376 batting average and .448 on-base percentage.

So far this season, Norman has recorded a .331 batting average with 51 hits, 20 home runs, 41 RBIs, 33 runs scored and a .422 OBP.

SR Hitter - Eddie Furnace put together a good April to earn the South Region Batter of the Month prize. A virtual unknown, he made the most of his chance to prove to Spectacle Island officials that he belongs on the big league roster.

The Specters first baseman posted a .351 batting average with 10 home runs, 24 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

So far this season Furnace is hitting .296 with 12 home runs.

NR Pitcher - The #1 pitcher this past month in the North Region was Gobbler Core of the Diamond City Newsboys. He worked the hitters over real good, finishing April with a superb 7-0 record and a 1.61 ERA.

The Newsboys star made 7 starts and surrendered 22 hits in 50.1 innings. He struck out 69 and walked 18.

His record for the year is 9-0 in 11 starts and Core has a 1.34 ERA.

SR Pitcher - In April, Siltbean Ferguson tore through the South Region like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 15 years old.

The young Taunton starter posted a 5-1 mark and an ERA of 1.54 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 58.1 innings he collected 74 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .139 average.

This year Ferguson has registered 6 wins and 3 losses in 12 starts with a 1.53 ERA while registering 113 strikeouts and 21 walks in 88.1 innings.

Before I comment on what would be good for a supermax, how often do you say a supermax roll occurs, like how many times per season? That'd give me a better idea of what type of power level to aim for.
Supermax events are quite rare. On any individual roll, it is a 1/216 (0.005%) chance that a supermax happens, I think. I roll 365-366 (once per day) times per year. Well, I have no idea what the probability of a supermax event would be, but I have rolled exactly TWO natural rolls in the entirety of this dynasty according to the Excel sheet I keep. That means 2 out of approximately 5296 rolls (0.0004% of my rolls).

Hmm, a bit rarer than I thought, but I did have an idea.

For bad events, a star prospect retires because they're needed elsewhere in the economy. IE, "Awww, gee, I'd really like a career in baseball, but ma and pa need me on the tato farm."

For good events, maybe next season have Nate introduce "Talent Waivers". Yes, we have a robust development system for baseball, but the wasteland is still the wasteland. Gems in the rough will be missed. Have a 5 star player (older) discovered and allowed to sign directly with a team (though as part of the Talent Waiver system, institute fairness somehow, such as no two such signings can be for the same team back to back, or even a longer rotation, etc). Represents that there are folks out there who might be the next big thing but have just never been given the chance, even though everyone's doing their best to bring back America's passtime.

I really like both these ideas

For the second idea, I think it is perfect! Since I do not allow foreigners in the dynasty, I could simulate prospect finds like the international scouting finds work. I already have the storyline set up since I wrote about Nate Howard looking to expand throughout New England. This will work perfectly in the coming expansion of the minors, colleges, and youth leagues. I have an update due, but I rolled two max events for May. I could make supermax events equal superstar find (70-80 current), max events CBO possible (40-69), med events upper potential (50-80), and min events lower potential (20-49). Thanks!

For the bad event, I already have retirements as a possibility in effect for the incidents roll. In fact, one of the Starlight relievers just up and quit since the last update. I have rolls for incidents and creature attacks for how serious they are, even up to death. There was one natural roll for death.

Yeah, I felt it might overlap a bit for the one. IMO, and it's fine to disagree, I think the retirements/deaths need to be upped a bit which probably influenced me, because while I really like your take on the "safe wasteland", it might be a bit too safe.

That said, ironically a few days ago just playing OOTP normally I got a stock/vanilla event where a player joined the military and quit baseball, so I suppose the event is already in the game. Perhaps it was in my subconcious since I just remembered.

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, BCAC, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

16 May 2310

CBO Analysis

This two-week update has put the CBO slightly behind the 10% every two weeks advancement of the season with teams playing slightly behind with 29% of the schedule complete. With that said, we have now played more than a quarter of the season, so we do have a better idea of who teams are. With the expansion teams winning at a current clip of .309 (47-105), it has been a good idea to expand to six playoff teams per association. Currently, each association has seven teams above .500. Here are the current team power rankings for the Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) Vault 81 Dwellers (137.6, o)
2) Egret Ninjas (119.4, o)
3) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (118.7, ++)
4) Roxbury Rad Sox (116.2, ++)
5) Bunker Hill 75ers (113.9, +)
6) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (110.7, --)
7) Oberland T-51s (109.9, -)
8) The Slog Ghouls (109.2, --)
9) University Point Deathclaws (108.5, +)
10) Easy Town Assaultrons (99.7, -)
11) Diamond City Swatters (98.7, +)
12) Nahant Celtics (97.7, -)
13) Spectacle Island Reapers (93.7, ++)
14) County Crossing Bloodbugs (91.7, -)
15) Quincy Gunners (88.3, ++)
16) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (87.0, --)
17) Salem Witch Hats (86.3, +)
18) Concord Radstags (85.0, -)
19) FHE Yao Guai (82.3, -)
20) Starlight Killers (82.3, o)
21) Goodneighbor Hancocks (80.5, ++)
22) Lexington Synths (77.5, -)
23) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (76.5, --)
24) Malden Grognaks (67.3, o)
25) Cambridge Coursers (58.6, -)
26) Atom Cats (46.8, o)
27) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (39.4, o)
28) Southie Brews (38.4, o)

According to the current standings, out quarter-mark playoff standings would look this way:

NCA
1. Nordhagen Beach (leads season series over Sunshine Tidings 2-0)
2. Sunshine Tidings
3. Bunker Hill
4. The Slog
5t. County Crossing (Season series: Nah 2-1, ET 1-2)
5t. Easy Town (Season series: CC 2-1, Nah 1-2)
5t. Nahant (Season series: ET 2-1, CC 1-2)

SCA
1. Vault 81
2. University Point
3. Egret
4. Oberland
5. Roxbury
6. Spectacle Island (leads season series over Diamond City 2-0)

Brotherhood League

With Nordhagen Beach struggling the past two weeks, the BL has suddenly become the tightest top-to-bottom league in the CBO. Malden at 14-24 sports the best record among expansion teams, and all four are now in last place. With five teams above .500, the BL is also tied with the Railroad League with the most teams with a winning record.

Nahant has been hot as of late, putting them into the playoff discussion, something that the Celtics have yet to accomplish since moving out of Finch Farm. Currenty, they are 7th in runs scored (183) and 5th in runs allowed (167), putting them in the top half of both categories in the NCA. While they are not standing out on either side of the ball, there is some consistency in the lineup. Two outstanding hitters have been CF Grandson Quarles (.388/14/21) and 3B Diamond Ball (.318/11/25). On the mound, SP Doug Creep (5-4, 3.24) has looked the best, and CL Justin Wilkerson (11 SV, 2.50) has been good out of the bullpen.

Institute League

With two teams above .500, the IL is tied with the Minutemen League for the CBO's fewest. Two teams--Concord and Fort Hagen--are at .500, giving the IL an edge from top to bottom. Remember when we were concerned with Bunker Hill? Well, now they are one of the CBO's hottest teams and trail by just one game for the NCA's best record. Yeah.

One of the two teams tied for the NCA's best record is Sunshine Tidings. The powerful Chemists have been consistently good so far, 2nd in the NCA in runs scored (204) and 4th in runs allowed (151). With three players with 10+ home runs--SS Lernz Tentsleep (.250/12/29), 3B Ross Merchantman (.369/11/34), and 1B Dusty Brownell (.275/10/24)--Sunshine Tidings leads the CBO in home runs (71). On the mound, SP Mike Rubric (8-1, 2.62) has been one of the best in the early season.

Minutemen League

As we mentioned, the ML has only two teams over .500 and those two teams are barely over that mark with University Point in 1st place at 21-17. Of course, the Deathclaws started slowly and then has turned it on to take over a weak league. Quincy has since faded, and Jamaica Plain has yet to find its footing.

For the Claws, what can we say? Offense most certainly can be as deadly as solid pitching in the CBO. Granted, University Point is not on a record pace this season, but some of the usual suspects have thrived for the SCA's second-best scoring offense (231 runs scored). Not unexpectedly, 1B Barker Cocoa (.362/20/43) is on a torrid pace to hit 68 home runs on the season, which also translates to 63 in a 120-game season. Should he continue that pace, Cocoa would shatter Homestay Lovetap's record of 61 and we would not even need to put a star next to it. Cocoa also has a 30-home run lead on the all-time leader board, with Starlight's 1B Oren Gep *(399) 2nd.

The craziest part of the Deathclaw's current hot streak? Three of its best four outfielders--LF Chris Hirshfield (.276/6/15), CF Aesed Hayjen (.385/3/14), and RF Jarrett Metalbox (.212/1/4). With RF Tomas Jones (.422/5/11) back from injury and one of the best veteran backups in LF David Seaweed (.284/6/24), though, there is still production from that unit.

Railroad League

As mentioned, five teams are above .500, and FHE is just two games below, making this league more likely to get multiple wildcards in the SCA. Vault 81 has been by far the best team, but Egret is the CBO's 2nd-best team as far as recorded is concerned. Oberland has also been consistently good and trail by just five games.

Now let's talk about the CBO's hottest team, the Roxbury Rad Sox. On a six-game winning streak and tying for an 8-2 mark in their past 10, the Sox are now contenders in the SCA. Their stats back up that claim, too, with the 3rd-best scoring offense (196) and the best scoring defense (147) in the SCA. While Roxbury is 3rd in home runs (52), the only player above 10 home runs is LF Sum Downie (.322/16/35). Six of eight in the lineup are batting over .300 right now with C Ayag Mour (.361/4/26) leading the charge. SS Purple Gupta (.293/3/18) is also not far away. On the mound, the starters' records do not look great, but the Rad Sox have the 2nd-best Starters ERA (3.58) and Bullpen ERA (3.87). SPs Nuke Laloosh (3-2, 3.43), Dobbie Radoncis (3-4, 3.75), and Urm Rehfeldt (5-3, 3.07) all have ERAs below 4.00.

CBO Standings

CBO Players of the Week

May 9 - With some great hand-eye coordination and a sweet, compact swing, County Crossing Bloodbugs right fielder Babs Rooth took the North Charles Association by storm this past week to take the latest Player of the Week honors.

"The ball was looking like a beach ball all week," a happy Rooth said to BNN reporters. "When it's that big, it doesn't matter where they throw it -- I can hit it anywhere."

The 31-year-old right fielder hit .500 (13-for-26) last week with 4 home runs, 7 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

This year Rooth is batting .319 with 7 home runs.

Joe Rathmann swung a blistering bat last week for Vault 81, rapping out 14 hits in 26 at-bats against Dwellers opponents to propel himself to the South Charles Association Player of the Week Award.

Whenever the right fielder hit the ball, he hit it with authority. The 31-year-old racked up a .538 batting average with 5 home runs, 9 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

This season Rathmann is batting .353 with 41 hits, 11 home runs, 26 RBIs, .486 OBP and has scored 36 runs.

May 16 - Plain Morris of the The Slog Ghouls had an outstanding week and today was voted the Player of the Week by the North Charles Association.

For the week the 23-year-old third baseman batted .478 (11-for-23) with 5 home runs and 10 RBIs.

Thus far this year Morris has hit .321 with 13 home runs and 36 RBIs.

Missile Crews went on a week-long hitting spree against South Charles Association pitchers and captured the Player of the Week honors.

The Goodneighbor center fielder battered the opposition for 15 hits, 5 home runs, 9 runs batted in and scored 7 runs. He hit .714 and posted a .750 on-base percentage.

Crews is presently hitting at a .397 pace with 10 home runs and 31 RBIs. He has played in 37 games and scored 29 times.

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, BCAC, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

19 May 2310

CBO Signings

An OSA scouting trip has produced three pitchers who may be CBO-ready despite never being associated with any CBO, NWL, or VL teams.

SPs Tony "Vampire" Frazier, Jaylin "Mucky" Timmons, and Air McNair have joined a pool to join the CBO. The CBO also held a true random draw for teams having first rights to the players with Frazier going to the Bunker Hill 75ers, Timmons going to the Diamond City Swatters, and McNair going to the Atom Cats. The Cats have decided to decline offering a contract to McNair after a workout, so he is a free agent.

According to scouting reports, Frazier, 26, is a three-pitch lefty with his fastball being the most dominant of the three. His curve and sinker were also plus-rated. He has good control of his pitches and projects as a 2nd or 3rd starter in the CBO.

Timmons, 24, is a lanky lefty with six pitches he can use in his arsenal. His best pitch is his slider by far, which will help him punch out a bunch of batters. He has good stuff but he needs to show better control in hitting his marks. Scouts believe he has the capability to be a #1 starter.

McNair, 21, may be the best of the three, according to OSA scouts (but apparently not according to Atom's ). The righty has a nasty changeup which appears to almost stop before reaching batters. He also has a decent four-seamer, curve, and sinker in his repertoire. He also has good control and movement, making him a formidable pitcher. Scouts believe he could be a future star in the CBO.

BCAC All-Star Game

The North Division All-Stars reigned supreme tonight at Gwinnett Brewery Park, with a 6-3 triumph over the South Division All-Stars.

North Division third baseman Sepol Lopez led the way for the winning club, putting up a 2-for-3 mark to earn game MVP honors.

"We had some fun out there," he said. "We've got a great league and a great team and I'm not surprised we won."

In his 110-game career Lopez has hit .344 with 135 hits, 21 home runs, and 75 RBIs and has scored 85 runs.

It's All-Star Game time -- time for the superstars to shine! Every year Boston Collegiate Athletic Conference takes a break in the schedule to play the annual All-Star Game. It's a battle of the superstars -- the North Division All-Stars versus the South Division All-Stars. The All-Star Game will spotlight the best hitters, the best pitchers and the best fielders, all doing battle against one another, all trying to prove their league is best.

CYL All-Star Game

All-Star Malden Megabeasts' shortstop Puddle Norman (Jr.) had a night to remember.

Not only did he take the field with the game's best players, he was also a huge factor in the 5-3 North Region victory over the South Region All-Stars.

"We had a meeting before the game, and I was struck by the talent in the room. Old stars, young stars, it's a game I'll never forget," Norman said. "I talked to a few of my friends from back home, and they told me to go out and win the game for them. I'm sure they'll be thrilled."

Looking at his career numbers with the Megabeasts/Green Future Sea Urchins, Norman has played in 201 games with a .282 batting average. Among his 200 hits are 37 doubles, 4 triples and 60 home runs. He has also scored 125 runs and driven in 172 runs.

How would you like to manage a team with more star players than you can play? It wouldn't be an easy chore. That's the dilemma facing the two managers at the annual Commonwealth Youth League All-Star classic -- how to get all the talented All-Stars in the game. But it's a joy for the fans -- to see all their favorite stars on one field at the same time.

Here are the official All-Star rosters:

Like the new players! Interesting draw for who gets them too, and of the three, surprised the Cats declined. I'm not sure that's going to help break the current dynasties currently haha, but maybe McNair will join someone spicy.

He went to the Southie Brews.

I don't know why Atom rejected Air McNair. I tried to add him manually twice, but they double cut him. Therefore, I allowed him to stew in the free agent market.

In fact, in the state of my setup, there is no reason Atom would reject him. Yet they did. Too bad for them! Or maybe he sucks. Who's to say?

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, BCAC, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

16 May 2310

CBO Analysis

As we near the end of the second month of the season, we are now starting to see the divides of 51 games played of teams with 30 wins and others with 30 losses. The Minutemen League is the sole league without a 30-game winner, but it also has the most teams (4) with 30+ losses. Here are the current team power rankings for the Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) Egret Ninjas (131.5, o)
2) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (122.5, ++)
3) Vault 81 Dwellers (119.0, o)
4) Bunker Hill 75ers (118.9, +)
5) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (114.9, -)
6) The Slog Ghouls (112.4, ++)
7) Spectacle Island Reapers (105.8, ++)
8) Oberland T-51s (104.4, ++)
9) Roxbury Rad Sox (101.9, --)
10) Easy Town Assaultrons (101.8, ++)
11) Salem Witch Hats (98.8, ++)
12) Nahant Celtics (98.3, ++)
13) Quincy Gunners (98.3, --)
14) University Point Deathclaws (97.8, --)
15) County Crossing Bloodbugs (96.3, --)
16) Diamond City Swatters (95.3, --)
17) Concord Radstags (90.2, +)
18) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (89.2, -)
19) Starlight Killers (88.8, --)
20) Lexington Synths (77.2, +)
21) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (73.1, ++)
22) Malden Grognaks (65.1, +)
23) Goodneighbor Hancocks (64.1, -)
24) Atom Cats (64.1, o)
25) FHE Yao Guai (57.6, --)
26) Cambridge Coursers (49.5, o)
27) Southie Brews (42.9, o)
28) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (31.4, o)

Brotherhood League

The entire league is .500 or better in their last 10, showing that the Brotherhood League is in competition to be the CBO's toughest. With their 7-3 mark in their last 10, Nordhagen Beach is still in control of the BL and are just two games back of the CBO's best record. Six teams are above .500 overall, with just the expansion Grognaks below .500, though they are three games better than the next-best expansion team.

Easy Town may have returned to prominence with a 28-23 record, in 3rd place and five games back. The Assaultrons are not dominating any statistical category, but they are good enough to be in the top half of the association. The Trons are 6th in runs scored (254) and ted for 7th in runs allowed (236). The 2-3-4 hitters in the lineup--LD Sean Samuels (.330/7/22), 1B/SP Lannie Tykeson (.368/11/27), and RF Baktu DaWell (.359/15/47)--are among the CBO's best group. On the mound, eight different pitchers have started one or more games. The top two starters with 13 and 12 starts, respectively, have been really good in SP Scott Fuhr (8-3, 3.19) and SP Major Tom Brennan (6-4, 3.34).

Institute League

Look out, but the IL is about to be fully predictable again with the usual suspects at the top in Bunker Hill, Sunshine Tidings, and Starlight. Fort Hagen and Concord are just a game back of the Killers and two games back of the 6th spot in the association standings.

The Silver Shroud do not appear to be a good team, but they are far from bad and continue to win despite their statistics. The Shroud are tied for 10th in runs scored (224) and tied for 10th in runs allowed (239), meaning their record should be worse than it is. The only player to stand out with a power game has been rookie RF Foo Fieterz (.295/13/33). SS Brennan Colt-45 and 1B Rival Hey (.318/2/20) are the leaders in getting on base. On the mound, Fort Hagen has the 5th-best Starters ERA (3.96) with ace SP Nien Nunb (7-4, 2.32) having a great first half of the season. He has lost 12 games or more, including 19 last season, in the past four seasons for Finch Farm/Nahant and the Shroud.

Minutemen League

There are only three teams in the ML that look playoff worthy, and they are all bunched together with a single game separating 1st and 3rd in the league. It may be safe to say that Jamaica Plain just does not have it this season, currently 21-30 and tied for 4th with Goodneighbor.

Spectacle Island cannot decide if it wants to win the ML or not, but they are tied with 3rd-place Quincy for the best stretch in the ML. The Reapers have not been a good offensive team, 10th in runs scored (215) and 13th in batting average (.246). 1B Homestay Lovetap (.317/19/40) and LF Knife Bowie (.253/14/34) are pushing the offense, while it may be time to bench leadoff hitter 2B Bubb Islander (.156/0/3). On the mound, Spectacle Island is 1st in runs allowed (188) and Starters ERA (3.19). Their top three starters--Jalep Temper (7-3, 2.44), Justin Sumbich (9-3, 2.87), and Junkyard Gourd (.4-2, 3.05)--have been outstanding. Outside of RP Brent Hooker (1-0, 1.47) and RP Mike Jerky (0-0, 1.86), the 10th-rated bullpen (5.38 ERA) has been pretty bad, losing lots of games late.

Railroad League

Egret and Vault 81 keep jostling for the CBO's top record with the Ninjas currently ahead by a game. Roxbury was right up there, too, but are currently on a four-game losing streak. Oberland and Diamond City are also hanging around and in playoff contention currently.

The Swatters are doing what it takes to build a solid pitching staff. With ace SP Sheng Kawolski (1-2, 4.26) on the mend, emerging star SP Paul Stains (5-4, 3.39) along with the free agent signing SP Mucky Timmons (1-2, 3.79). Diamond City is 4th in runs allowed (216) with a balanced rotation with the 6th-best Starters ERA (4.11) and 4th-best Bullpen ERA (4.20). Thirty-nine-year-old CL Josh Samm (12 SV, 3.91) is still effective. In the lineup, two players standing out the most are 1B Murray Bunts (.339/15/48) and LF Todd Smithfield (.335/11/33).

CBO Standings

CBO Players of the Week

May 23 - His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Lannie Tykeson was rewarded with the North Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

The scrappy Easy Town Assaultrons first baseman hit .591 while collecting 13 hits in 22 at-bats, 2 home runs and 3 RBIs.

So far this year Tykeson is batting .352 with 7 home runs, 20 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

19-year-old Sack King sent shock waves through Commonwealth Baseball Organization last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the South Charles Association Player of the Week Award.

A newcomer to the league, King made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .478 average, 11 hits in 23 at-bats, 4 home runs and 12 runs batted in.

Where the University Point Deathclaws center fielder goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but King certainly made his mark last week.

Thus far this year King is hitting .408 with 10 home runs, 26 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

May 30 - Family Sam Partridge stepped up to the plate in a big way last week and today he took home the North Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

The Lexington left fielder ripped opposing pitchers for 13 hits in 25 at-bats and 4 home runs. He put together a sizzling .520 batting average as he knocked in 10 runs and scored 7 times.

This season Partridge has 16 home runs and a .328 batting average.

The South Charles Association made it official today: Donn Mattingley is the Player of the Week.

He really sparkled on the diamond this week with a .542 average to take home the trophy. The Roxbury third baseman went 13-for-24, drove in 5 runs, scored 8 times and hit 4 home runs.

This season Mattingley has hit at a .372 clip with 25 RBIs, 13 home runs and 40 runs scored. He has played in 48 games.

Also keep tabs on Tony for me, too, btw. I have a soft spot for Pitchers named Tony after my 'real life' save had a once in a century talent produced named Tony Gonzalez.

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, BCAC, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

1 June 2310

The June Super Post

CBO Players of the Month

NCA Hitter - Salem Witch Hats fans believe they've got a talented young star in Brian DeLong.

He did nothing to dissuade that notion in May, as he hit .405 with 11 home runs, 24 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

The end result was the right fielder being named the North Charles Association Batter of the Month.

So far this season DeLong has put up a .354 batting average with 62 hits, 15 home runs and 37 RBIs.

SCA Hitter - Donn Mattingley battered South Charles Association pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Commonwealth Baseball Organization long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old Mattingley told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 25 games, Mattingley hit .475 with 10 home runs, 21 RBIs and scored 27 runs.

This year Mattingley has 13 home runs and a .375 batting average.

NCA Pitcher - When Doug Creep took the hill in May, he was in charge. The Nahant starter never let the North Charles Association batters get a foothold against him. For his peerless performance, he came away with an impressive 6-0 record and the Pitcher of the Month award.

The talented Celtics hurler made 7 starts, worked 57 innings, permitted 55 base hits, and struck out 41 while putting up a 2.53 ERA.

This year Creep has posted a 8-4 mark in 13 starts and has a 2.97 ERA.

SCA Pitcher - The South Charles Association scribes have picked May's Pitcher of the Month and have given the trophy to Exxie Summerset of Vault 81. He was devastating on the mound last month with a standout 7-0 mark.

The Dwellers star hurler made 7 starts with a 3.31 ERA and surrendered 44 hits in 54.1 innings. He struck out 50 and walked 15.

For the year Summerset has compiled a 12-0 record with a 3.40 ERA.

NCA Rookie - Foo Fieterz earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the North Charles Association for last month's performance. The boyish Fort Hagen right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Fieterz hit .323 with 6 home runs, 16 RBIs and 14 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Fieterz is hitting .287 so far this season with 33 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has 50 hits including 13 home runs, 32 walks and .394 OBP.

SCA Rookie - Youngster Makin Jobear emerged as the latest South Charles Association Rookie of the Month today. The young man from FHE deserved the honor, batting .402 with 9 home runs and 20 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Jobear enjoy the limelight.

This year Jobear is hitting .364, produced 35 RBIs and 15 home runs, scored 33 times and gotten on base at a .416 rate.

CBO Top Performances

The top NCA hitting performance of the month came from LF Tom Smithfield of Diamond City. On May 22, Smithfield was 3 for 3 with a double, two home runs, a walk, three runs, and six RBI in a 9-7 win over Oberland. On the season, Smithfield is hitting .333 with 11 home runs and 33 RBI.

Smithfield's performance did not quite live up to the season's best so far. On April 23, LF Donny Kowalski of Bunker Hill lit up Salem on a 5 for 5 day with two home runs, two walks, three runs, and six RBI. His two-run bomb in the bottom of the 13th was the walk-off winner as the 75ers prevailed 10-8. Currently, Kowalski is batting .321 with nine homers and 31 RBI.

SP Justin Sumbich of Spectacle Island had the month's and season's best performance on May 28 against Malden, which has allowed four of the best five pitching performances on the season. For Sumbich, he pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout in a road 2-0 victory for the Reapers. Sumbich walked one and struck out 10 on the day. Sumbich is 9-3 with a 2.87 ERA putting him third in ERA in the SCA.

MML Analysis

In the second month of the season, two divisions maintained the same leaders--Watertown and Plymouth--while two new division leaders emerged at the end of May--Danvers and Providence. With the season approaching its halfway mark, the All-Star break is just two weeks away. We will report on that game once it is completed.

MML Players of the Month

LL Hitter - The Legends League Batter of the Month has been chosen for May and the trophy was presented to Curtain Mora of the Danvers Sonics.

He stood out this month with a .347 batting average, 35 hits and 22 home runs, along with 44 RBIs and 30 runs scored.

On the year Mora has hit .315 with 26 home runs, 63 RBIs and scored 40 runs.

SL Hitter - The Stars League Batter of the Month has been picked for May and the honor goes to the Brookline Bandoliers Lumpy Pumpkinhead.

He compiled a .421 batting average with 48 hits and 17 home runs, along with 34 RBIs and 33 runs scored.

So far this year Pumpkinhead is hitting .359 with 27 home runs.

LL Pitcher - Over the past month Buckweld Shepherd has turned quite a few heads. He's young, talented and able to pitch with the established arms in the Legends League. He proved all that and now he's been named May's Pitcher of the Month.

The rookie for the Burlington Ferals posted 5-1 mark and a 2.24 ERA. In 7 starts he tossed 52.1 innings, permitted 41 hits and fanned 51 batters.

This year Shepherd has a 7-3 mark in 13 starts with a 3.76 ERA. He has given up 95 hits in 93.1 innings, struck out 86 and issued 26 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .264 batting average against him.

SL Pitcher - It was a prolific month of May for Castle reliever Charlie Lewisandclark. He put his best foot forward with no saves in no save opportunities. Numbers so good that the Strength Stars League voted him the Pitcher of the Month.

During the month, the Strength bullpen specialist bagged 5 wins and 1 loss while compiling a 2.28 ERA. In 51.1 innings Charlie Lewisandclark gave up 45 base hits, fanned 8, and walked 13. The hitters he faced batted .234 against him.

Lewisandclark has no saves in 2 relief appearances this season with a 8-3 record and 2.98 ERA.

BMU Analysis

The All-Star game is less than a week away in the 2310 BMU season, and all four leagues are tight heading into the break. In the Dark Hollow Pond League, three teams, Taffington Boathouse, Marblehead, and Tenpines Bluff, are knotted at 27-17. The other three league leaders--Mystic Pines, Neponset Park, and Somerville Place--have either a one or two-game lead.

BMU Players of the Month

CA Hitter - For a rookie just breaking in, Wilde Game certainly put together a successful month. It was good enough to win the CA Batter of the Month award for May.

The 20-year-old left fielder for the Mystic Pines Raybathers hit .464 with 11 home runs, 35 RBIs and 31 runs scored.

Game's current batting average stands at .416 and he has chalked up 18 home runs and 52 RBIs.

MA Hitter - Jiub Menace made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the Massachusetts Association this past month.

The Mass Pike Radroaches center fielder shined through the month of May and has won the Batter of the Month award.

The 22-year-old hit .364 with 15 home runs, 33 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

So far this season Menace is hitting .378 with 20 home runs, 49 RBIs and 36 runs scored. He has 48 hits in 127 at-bats and a .473 OBP.

CA Pitcher - The Commonwealth Association made it official today -- Birdman Galvan of the Tenpines Bluff Manta Men is the Pitcher of the Month. In May he impressed the sportswriters with his domination of league hitters.

Galvan made 6 starts, registered 6 wins and no losses with a solid 3.20 ERA. In 39.1 innings he allowed 29 hits, racked up 36 strikeouts, walked 13 and permitted teams to hit .200 against him.

To date this season Galvan is 6-1 with 7 starts and an ERA of 3.32 with 42 strikeouts in 43.1 innings.

MA Pitcher - Rafael Orphan is the latest Massachusetts Association Pitcher of the Month award winner. The Charles View starter shone on the hill repeatedly last month and finished May with a sparkling 5-0 record.

In 8 starts he tossed 51 innings, posted 41 strikeouts, and put up a 2.82 ERA.

This year Orphan has made 11 starts, thrown 65.2 innings, fanned 55 batters and walked 26. His won-lost record is 5-3 with a 3.43 ERA.

GBRL Analysis

Like the BMU, the GBRL All-Star Game is next week. Three of the four division leaders--Greentop Nursery, Satellite Array, and Poseidon Energy--have three-game leads, while the Greater Mass Vans at 35-9 have a seven-game lead. FHE looks to have a loaded future if their GBRL players continue to progress.

GBRL Players of the Month

NL Hitter - Cameron Triggs put together a good May to earn the North League Batter of the Month prize. A virtual unknown, he made the most of his chance to prove to Croup Manor officials that he belongs on the big league roster.

The Inspectors left fielder posted a .515 batting average with 8 home runs, 29 RBIs and 36 runs scored.

This season Triggs is batting .455 with 12 home runs. He has scored 50 runs and driven in 44.

SL Hitter - It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 20 Levitt Aiding has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young Greater Mass Vans star can enjoy the numbers he put up in May, which have garnered him the nod as the South League Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .347 average with 13 home runs, 31 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

So far in 2310 Aiding is batting .353 with 16 home runs, 46 RBIs and 42 runs scored. He has 53 hits in 150 at-bats and a .462 OBP.

NL Pitcher - In May when the Union Hope manager wrote the name "Ranger" on the lineup card, he knew he had a good shot at winning. Start after start in the month, Tex Ranger took the hill, took charge and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 5-0 mark and 3.48 ERA in 6 starts. The gifted Lifegivers star pitched 41.1 innings, fanned 55 and held opposing teams to a .244 average.

For his outstanding mound performance Ranger was named the NL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

In the current season in 9 starts, Tex Ranger has a record of 8-0 with 79 strikeouts in 63.1 innings and a 2.84 ERA.

SL Pitcher - Last month's cream of the crop on the mound was Aval Atheron of the Poseidon Energy Mongrels. He captured the South League Pitcher of the Month award for his outstanding performance in May.

Atheron started 7 games, threw 54 innings, yielded 27 hits and logged a 5-1 record. He put down 64 batters on strikes, walked 26 and compiled a 1.83 ERA. Opposing teams batted .148 against him.

Atheron has started 11 times this year, pitched 80 innings, fanned 94 batters and walked 39. His current record is 6 wins and 2 losses with a 2.36 ERA.

BCAC Analysis

There is still a lot of season to play in the college season. With 32 games down, the Harvard Crimson and Commonwealth Terriers are the top two teams. The Crimson are the defending champions, having beaten Mass Bay U in seven games in 2309.

BCAC Players of the Month

Hitter - For the month of May, Hercules Bentley of the Mass Bay University Beacons has really worn out the sweet spot on his bat. He has assaulted, used and abused Boston Collegiate Athletic Conference pitchers to the tune of a .463 batting average and was honored as the hottest hitter of the month today.

Bentley went 31 for 67 last month with 4 walks. The first baseman tallied 11 home runs, 22 RBIs, 19 runs scored and compiled a .493 on-base percentage.

Pitcher - The Boston Collegiate Athletic Conference announced the winner of the Pitcher of the Month Award. It went to bullpen ace Heavy Brothers of Harvard for his outstanding work on the mound.

During the month, the Crimson star stood out with 8 saves in 8 save opportunities, a 0.87 ERA and 1 win and no losses. In 10.1 innings he struck out 15 and gave up 7 hits and 1 walks.

CYL Analysis

The CYL season is in its home stretch now with most teams having 10 games remaining. Therefore, we have a better picture of the playoff race in the last two weeks of the regular season. Current division leaders are:

Franklin: Marlborough Mingunners
Emerson: Beantown Sprouts
Fuller: South Charles Bank Moonies
Revere: Woburn Diners
Adams: Brown Bubblers
Alcott: Andrew Station Southies
Morse: Taunton Giants
Attucks: Truro Hatchlings

No team has yet to clinch a playoff spot, which is amazing. Still, some of those spots are coming soon. If the playoffs were to begin today, this would be the current seeding:

NR
1. South Charles Bank
2. Marlborough
3. Beantown
4. Woburn
5. Diamond City
6. Hester
7. Danvers
8. Beerthirty
9. Needham
10-11-12. Currently a four-way tie of Castle, Georgetown, Lexington, and Worcester.

SCA
1. Truro
2. Andrew Station
3. Brown
4. Taunton
5t. Hope
5t. Thompson Heights
7. Nauset Beach
8. Spectacle Island
9. Sandwich
10. West Quincy
11. Freeplat
12. Wellfleet

CYL Players of the Month

NR Hitter - Even though he is a newcomer to Commonwealth Youth League, Naga Arakaki put up some good numbers in May and earned the NR Batter of the Month award.

He was one of Concord's offensive leaders with a .409 average in 24 games. He also racked up 9 home runs, 20 RBIs, and 27 runs scored.

This season Arakaki has hit at a .358 clip and produced 51 RBI, 20 home runs and 53 runs.

SR Hitter - At only 16 years of age, Charles Towner could very well have many more months like this last one during his career.

That would be great news for fans of the Provincetown Land Pirates, as May was one to remember for the left fielder and he has captured the South Region Batter of the Month award.

On the month he hit .345 with 10 home runs, 31 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

Thus far this year Towner has hit .292 with 21 home runs and 56 RBIs.

NR Pitcher - The Pitcher of the Month has been picked and the North Region trophy went to South Charles Bank hurler Richard Burns for his strong performance in May.

During the month, Burns was impressive with a 1.47 ERA and 6 wins and no losses. In 49 innings he struck out 62 and gave up 30 hits and 11 walks.

For the season Burns has compiled a 10-0 record with a 2.23 ERA.

SR Pitcher - Which South Region hurler dominated in the month of May?
According to the voters who decide the South Region Pitcher of the Month award, it was Ramrod Padlock of the Andrew Station Southies.

He put together a record of 7-0 with an ERA of 1.76 in 8 starting assignments. In addition, he struck out 37 in 56.1 innings.

This year Padlock has compiled a 13-3 record with a 2.37 ERA.

In two starts with Bunker Hill, he is 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA. In 14.0 IP, he has allowed three earned runs on 16 hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. I would say that is a pretty good start to a CBO career.

Nuka News Update

Reporting on the NWL, APL, NWLR, and BBL Leagues

by Evan Guy

1 June 2310

Hot Victory, Dark Hold Big Leads Leading into June

The Victory Cave Crickets and Dark Bloodworms are the NWL's two hottest teams and they now have division leads of 4.5 and 6.5 games, respectively, as we begin June. The only other team in the NWL with a winning record is Quartz at 14-12, so this season has begun top-heavy with the Cave Crickets (17-8) and Bloodworms (20-5) looking dominant so far.

For Victory, the defending champions, they are the best pitching team, allowing just 94 runs so far. The Cave Crickets have the 2nd-best Starters ERA (3.85) and the best Bullpen ERA (2.83). The third and fourth starters, Travis Armstrong (2-2, 3.68) and Chad Hartwig (4-1, 3.51) are holding down the ERA there. In the bullpen, CL Daron Hendrix (4 SV, 0.49) is hard to beat.

Dark is the best offensive team in the NWL, ranking 1st in runs scored (186) at 7.44 runs per game! Two players--3B Curt Toth (.439/9/32) and LF Denn Verr (.410/1/19)--are hitting over .400 with C Nick Lowe (.390/2/23) and 1B Bran Maverly (.388/6/26) not far away.

May's Batter of the Month has been chosen by the Nuka World League. This month's trophy was awarded to the Dark third baseman, Curt Toth.

He starred by hitting .439 with a .487 on-base percentage, totaled 47 hits in 107 at-bats, 9 home runs, 32 RBIs and 27 runs scored.

The premier pitcher this past month in the Nuka World League was Ed Homestead of the Dark Bloodworms. He was one mighty tough pitcher, finishing May with a sensational 5-0 record and a 3.09 ERA.

The Bloodworms star made 6 starts and surrendered 42 hits in 43.2 innings. He struck out 32 and walked 4.

Dark's Bran Maverly collected 33 hits to snare the Nuka World League Rookie of the Month for May.

He batted .388 with 6 home runs, 26 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

The 21-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

In the Amusement Park League, division leaders are the Nuka Bottling Plant Pack and the Nuka Town Operators. The Bradberton Disciples are the only other team above .500 in the league.

Not known for his offensive prowess, Jake Roth set the league afire in May and took home the Amusement Park League Batter of the Month award.

The Nuka Bottling Plant center fielder posted a steady .396 batting average, 10 home runs, 35 RBIs and 28 runs.

Wuguns Tommy of Nuka Town had an excellent May with a 5-0 record and was selected as the Pitcher of the Month in the Amusement Park League.

He finished the month with a 3.08 ERA while piling up 50 strikeouts in 49.2 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .233 batting average.

The NWLRL also has just three teams above .500 with the Northpoint Reservoir Gulchers and the Dunmore Ferris Wheels atop their divisions. The Nuka Jolly Elves are the sole team above .500 without a division lead.

The #1 hitter in the NWL Rookie League in May was Junkyard shortstop Nighttime Danny Lastname. He was selected as the Batter of the Month.

Lastname starred with a .433 batting average, 6 home runs and 28 RBIs.

No doubt about it!
Dunmore starter Bazine Netal earned his NWL Rookie League Pitcher of the Month award.
He made that very clear as he mowed his way through league hitters in May.
During the month Netal chalked up a 5-0 record with a 3.07 ERA.

The Ferris Wheels star made 6 starts and surrendered 43 hits in 41 innings. He struck out 35 and walked 7.

Finally, with just two weeks remaining in the Bradberton Boys League season, the Ol Sugartop Buckaroos lead the West by a game as do the Bay Path Voyagers in the East.

When Bad Henry Erren stepped up to the plate in May he did it with confidence, and today he was honored with the Bradberton Boys League Batter of the Month award.

The young Mad Mulligan first baseman posted a .297 batting average with 16 home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 28 runs. Erren also worked pitchers for 21 walks to post a .443 on-base percentage.

May's best hurler was Bet Goodson of Bay Path. He overwhelmed BBL hitters all month long and captured the Pitcher of the Month award as he collected a 5-1 record in 8 starts.

The 15-year-old Goodson added 46 strikeouts in 41 innings and 7 walks to his season record and compiled a 2.85 ERA. Other clubs hit .197 against him.

Vim! View

Veracious, Vivacious, Vainglorious Vision of the Vim! Leagues

by Vikky Vail

1 June 2310

National Park, Grand Hotel Lead

National Park has never been to the playoffs in their first nine seasons of existence. This season, the Gulpers, whose highest finish was 3rd in 2306, are atop the Fog Division heading into June with a 2.5-game lead over Dalton Farm.

The Gulpers have been great on offense, leading most offensive categories, including runs scored with 175. 1B Swanee Law (.330/12/31) has been among the Vim! League's best, with loads of help from SS DaMan Sayes (.381/4/22), LF Joe Hayes (.363/3/9), and RF Billy Yudkowsky (.357/1/12).

In the Harbor Division, the 1st-place Atoms are used to winning, having won the division three of the past four seasons. The two-time defending champions, Grand Hotel does not lead any of the major offensive categories, but they are 2nd in runs scored (159) and 5th in runs allowed (142) despite having the 3rd-best Starters ERA (5.19) and 2nd-best Bullpen ERA (4.58). Since offense is more talented than pitching in the Vim! League, performances by starters Michael Acadiaman (3-1, 4.44), Boss O'Malley (1-2. 4.83), and Jeff Herd (1-1. 4.70) can be considered good. CL Sundown Velasquez (2 SV, 2.38) has been efficient from the bullpen, as has Pitcher of the Month RP Tim Aren't (6 SV, 2-1, 1.29).

Swanee Law has a lot going for him. The National Park first baseman just broke into the majors this year and now the Vim! League has just picked him as its top hitter for May.

In 25 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .330 with 12 home runs, 31 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

When Grand Hotel bullpen ace Tim Aren't came into the game, good things happened. For his impressive month of May he was named the Vim! League Pitcher of the Month.

The Atoms reliever had 6 saves for the month with a 2-1 record and 1.29 ERA. He made 11 relief appearances, hurled 14 innings, yielded 11 hits, fanned 3 and walked 0.

In the MDIL, the Brooke's Head Behemoths have a half-game lead in the Small Bertha Division, while the Haddock Cove Engineers have a 5.5-game lead. In the Small Bertha Division, both the Nucleus Radchickens (14-11) and Southwest Harbor Rippers (14-12) are on the Behemoths' heels.

Boss Ross is not used to being associated with Batter of the Month-caliber players, but today the Cliff's Edge first baseman joined that select company when the Mount Desert Island League announced the results of May's voting.

Ross totaled 36 hits, 13 walks, 9 home runs, 25 RBIs and 23 runs scored last month to put together a .383 batting average and .454 on-base percentage.

When Tuppy Whear takes the hill, he's a good bet to nail down the victory for the Brooke's Head Behemoths. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 4-1 mark and 3.38 ERA in 5 starts. In 37.1 innings, he fanned 23 and walked 18.
That's why he was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Mount Desert Island League.

The VRL has a tie in the Western Atlantic between the Kitteridge Rad Rabbits and Glowing Grove Braniacs. In the Eastern, the MS Azalea Shipwrecks have a one-game lead over the Fringe Cove Champions.

May is a month Soreau Weau will no doubt remember for quite some time to come.

The 21-year-old Glowing Grove left fielder came through all month long for his club and has won honors as the VIM! Rookie League Batter of the Month.

His standout month saw him put up a .298 batting average, with 12 home runs, 29 RBIs, 24 runs scored and a .408 on-base percentage.

The top-rated pitcher this past month in the VIM! Rookie League was Nick Wise of the Kitteredge Rad Rabbits. He really dominated league hitters, finishing May with a 5-0 won-lost mark and a 0.87 ERA.

The Rad Rabbits ace made 5 starts and surrendered 24 hits in 31 innings. He struck out 41 and walked 14.

The Maine Youth Leagues are winding down their 2310 season. In the MDIF, the Cliff's Edge Wolves have a 3.5-game lead and a Magic # of 11. In the GDIL, the Diamond Cover Fort Knight have a two-game lead and a Magic # of 12.

Beaver Creek Bowlers fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in May.

Home Run Baker put up a remarkable month at the age of 17 and has been named the Mount Desert Island Four Batter of the Month.

For the month, Baker hit .283 with 17 home runs, 36 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

RB Ferrell may be much younger than other hitters in the Great Diamond Island League, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in May to win the Batter of the Month award.

The 17-year-old Diamond Cove first baseman hit .280 with 8 home runs, 24 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

May was a magical month for Josty Penguin of National Park. He held the Mount Desert Island Four hitters spellbound, conjuring up a 3-0 mark and a 1.40 ERA.

Penguin also chalked up 7 starts, 45 innings and 66 strikeouts.

For this outstanding performance he was rewarded with the Pitcher of the Month trophy.

Big Craig Astro really tore up the Great Diamond Island League this past month. He went 5-0 in May and won the Pitcher of the Month award.

In 7 starts he struck out 40 in 38.1 innings with a 2.11 ERA.

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, BCAC, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

13 June 2310

CBO Analysis

We are right at the halfway point of the season with 63 of 130 games played. Since our next update will be past the midway point, let's consider this our halftime update.

Note to the CBO, can we get that schedule in fives and tens again? No? OK. With progress there must be change. Looking at the records of teams, there are four in the CBO with 40 or more wins. Three of them play in the Railroad League. Let's look at the Power Rankings and current playoff standings. Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (135.9, o)
2) Roxbury Rad Sox (129.3, ++)
3) The Slog Ghouls (117.4, +)
4) Egret Ninjas (117.1, -)
5) Bunker Hill 75ers (114.4, +)
6) Vault 81 Dwellers (113.3, +)
7) County Crossing Bloodbugs (112.9, -)
8) Oberland T-51s (108.7, +)
9) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (108.4, --)
10) University Point Deathclaws (106.9, +)
11) Starlight Killers (105.0, --)
12) Spectacle Island Reapers (100.1, ++)
13) Easy Town Assaultrons (94.1, o)
14) Quincy Gunners (92.3, o)
15) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (89.9, ++)
16) Lexington Synths (86.7, --)
17) Salem Witch Hats (85.7, ++)
18) Nahant Celtics (83.6, -)
19) Diamond City Swatters (76.7, --)
20) Atom Cats (72.4, ++)
21) Goodneighbor Hancocks (71.3, -)
22) Concord Radstags (71.0, --)
23) Malden Grognaks (69.4, -)
24) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (69.1, -)
25) FHE Yao Guai (61.6, -)
26) Southie Brews (53.4, +)
27) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (41.7, -)
28) Cambridge Coursers (35.6, o)

NCA
1. Nordhagen Beach
2. Bunker Hill (leads season series over Sunshine Tidings 3-2)
3t. Sunshine Tidings (season series with The Slog tied 0-0)
3t. The Slog
5. County Crossing
6. Starlight

SCA
1. Egret
2. University Point
3. Roxbury (leads season series over Vault 81 3-2)
4. Vault 81
5. Oberland
6. Spectacle Island

Brotherhood League

With a 9-1 mark in their last 10, Nordhagen Beach is tied with Roxbury for the CBO's best record over that time. The Party Boys now hold a four-game lead over The Slog, followed by County Crossing, Easy Town, Nahant, and Salem for BL teams in the playoff race.

The Party Boys won the Sole Survivor Series last season and two of the past three. They are among the most veteran teams with a bunch of players who have played with the Party Boys for years. One player standing out who has not is 1B Mountainside Rockhand (.322/22/56), the second-year player and former 14th-overall pick in the 2306 Draft. The pitching has been outstanding as usual, too, with Beachboy Nut (7-2, 3.49) the only starter without 10 victories.

Institute League

Bunker Hill and Sunshine Tidings are now dead even in the rush for the IL title. With Starlight getting hot, the league races is also tight among the top three.

For the Killers, they have started to get it together, currently tied for 2nd in runs allowed (245) and 2nd in Starters ERA (3.30). All four starters have an ERA below 4.00: Digger Vadim (5-5, 3.76), Shaak Ti (8-4, 3.02), Whokill Poole (6-3, 3.39), and Bill Sarnacki (6-8, 3.16).

Minutemen League

The ML currently appears to be a three-team race with University Point, Spectacle Island, and Quincy all within three games of each other. While none of them have shown championship ability, all three could be dangerous.

Jamaica Plain has to be one of the most frustrated teams in 2310. With one of the most talented lineups in the CBO, the Red Rockets are 8th in runs scored (296) and 10th in batting average (.255). LF Ken Debate (.300/17/44) and 2B Bulleye Shooterson (.318/15/41) have been doing well but several other typically good hitters have struggled to generate quality at bats. Among those struggling to get hits are CF Hid Matsumoto (.210/9/25) and 1B Carney Cornseed (.222/13.31).

Railroad League

The closest three-team race is in the RL with Egret leading both Roxbury and Vault 81 by just one game. The Rad Sox are tied with the Boys for the best stretch in the CBO and currently are in a seven-game winning streak.

Just four games back, Oberland is also in the race. The T-51s won the RL the past two seasons as part of a three-year stretch in the playoffs and a trip to the Sole Survivor Series in 2308. One aspect of the 2310 team is that the bullpen has been the best in the SCA with the top ERA (3.21). CL William Butcherman (14 SV, 5.54) is not one of them. RP Aaron Geneva (1-0, 1.50), RP Pray Tell (0-0, 2.33), and RP Dave Pain (3-2, 2.38) have picked up the pace.

CBO Standings

CBO Players of the Week

June 6 - He was a hard-hitting machine all week long. That's why Andy Stamey of the Malden Grognaks was named the North Charles Association Player of the Week.

For the week the 25-year-old first baseman batted .526 (10-for-19) with 3 home runs, 3 runs and 6 RBIs.

In the 2310 season Stamey is hitting .325 with 15 home runs.

The #1 hitter in the South Charles Association was Oberland right fielder Orcin Cardinal. He was selected as the Player of the Week.

During the week Cardinal banged out a .560 batting average (14-for-25), 5 home runs, 10 runs batted in and scored 8 runs.

This year Cardinal is batting .348 with 72 hits and 14 home runs. He has scored 40 times and has batted in 38 runs.

June 13 - All week long Sleve McDichael was the talk of the North Charles Association... his name and face were everywhere. So it was no surprise to anyone when he was chosen the North Charles Association's Player of the Week for his exceptional performance.

McDichael put up a solid set of stats, compiling a .474 average (9-for-19) and contributing 3 home runs and 10 RBIs to claim the honor.

So far this season, McDichael has recorded a .280 batting average with 53 hits, 8 home runs, 32 RBIs, 32 runs scored and a .396 OBP.

This week Tut Campbell, second baseman for the Roxbury Rad Sox, slashed, mashed and bashed his way to the South Charles Association Player of the Week trophy.

Campbell put up a .536 average as he pounded out 15 hits, no home runs, 7 RBIs and scored 9 runs.

Campbell is presently batting .299 with 2 home runs, 39 runs scored and 28 RBIs. His OBP is .348.
