Another request for 1980
Greetings,
I have a handful of requests for color images of these 1980 players. Perhaps they have been asked about previously, however I thought I would ask to see if any have come to the surface. Any help is greatly appreciated! Atl - Rafael Ramirez*, Terry Harper & Rick Mahler in caps with the smaller case ‘a’ on the hat. (* - other than his Fleer card) Cle - Gary Gray* & Don Collins (* - other than his Fleer card) Oak – Rich Bordi (*Topps captured him for the ’82 set. Any chance this pic or another has revealed itself?) Mil – Dave LaPoint – white whale I believe…. Bal – Paul Hartzell – definitely a white whale but have to ask. Thanks all! John Werhas 1964
Hardly a white whale in his half season with the Angels (there's a nice Brace of him - though do I HAVE a white whale coming up for you in about two weeks) but I've never seen Werhas before in home unis before. Clearly from photo day 1967, cleaned and iso'd

PHOTO LOCATED: Samuel Yeatman 1872 Washington Nationals
I just got Samuel Yeatman's record updated with Bill Carle at the Biographical Committee. He was a one game player for the 1872 Washington Nationals. The record was previously credited another man named William Yeatman.
Samuel Yeatman's photo appears in his obituary in the December 13, 1905 Washington Evening Star. The photo on baseball-reference is of William Yeatman, so will need to be changed. |

Robin Roberts 1948
I think I may have seen this on the board before, but a search doesn't find it in the thread.
Roberts at Spring Training 1962, with the Yankees. He did make the team, even after the disastrous 1961 season that had the Phillies putting him on waivers. But he never got into a game, and come early-May cut-down day, the Bombers cut him and kept that Bouton kid instead. From the current RMY auction, tweaked a little. (I added just a hint of sepia for warmth.) |

Dave Pope 1952
Also from the current RMY lot.
Many of Pope's pics are from his time in Baltimore, and while we do have that one TV pic on page 1008, that's in road gear (as it was taken at Yankee Stadium) and he's in a torqued-around finishing-the-swing pose. Here we see him properly posed, in the Tribe's home togs: Either 1954 or 1956. (Chief Wahoo wasn't part of the cap before 1954, and Pope spent 1955 in Baltimore.) Rather surprised that UPI was taking portraits in Cleveland, but glad to have it. |

Robin Roberts 1948 (in 1962)
More color photos of him from '62 than is supposed.

A white whale, in color at least.
Neither colorized nor photoshopped! Spring Training 1978. |

I know, right? Found in somebody's files. They had no idea why I gasped. Just underscores that the whales are out there - forgotten or stored (like my 1978 Stan Perzanowski/Twins/portrait. It's there but I'll be damned if I'm likely to ever find it!)

If you ever do find that Perzanowski, I'll be gasping as well...

Baby Whale?
There is no end to images of Roberto/Bobby Ramos with the Expos, but to my knowledge there was nothing of him in his brief 1978 call-up, wearing the uni they changed shortly thereafter.
I found this today in the 10/2/78 edition of the Montreal Gazette, via Newspapers.com: |

Art Mills 1927
Previously seen in a cut-down, colorized version, here's the actual photo, from an old RMY auction.
This is a 1927 road uniform; the 1928 home uniform had the same striped tops (Judge Fuchs pinching pennies?), but the caps were solid blue that season. And yes, this is a Charles Conlon photo. |

Jack Knight 1922
We actually already have a Knight from these 1925 Phillies in the Pitchers' Pack. I just like this Conlon better.
A pity we can't find Jack with the 1922 Cardinals or 1927 Braves, but one can't expect success, Knight after Knight. (Pic is from the February 2022 RMY auction. I went browsing.) |

Paul Zahniser 1923
Thanks, rrb!
From the same auction as the other Conlons, here's a Zahniser we haven't seen before. (Sorry to read about his ultimate fate.) |

Mike McNally 1915
And yet another RMY Conlon. We have Bosox McNally in the thread and the facepack has a colorized shot from his 1925 Washington finale, but the Yankees pic has been removed.
Seen in front of the CF flagpole in The House That Ruth Just Opened in 1923, he is wrongly called a pitcher by RMY, but a nice pic nonetheless. |
