I'm not gonna fall for that trick. Korr has advanced from AA to AAA since I got him. He'll be in the majors by the end of '52 He's only 21, you know.

THere is a difference between advancing from one level to another and succedding at one level and another. Korr has never played well. I hope your right, though. Would be great to have my two grandfathers anchoring the infiend.

lmao...

And the sim is completed...

I'm a fan of Korr's too. He did hit .329 with a .967 OPS at AA this year. That's success. AAA looks a bit tough for him thus far, so I wouldn't expect him in the majors before Aug/Sept of 1952. But, I have a feeling he'll be just fine. He may be a late bloomer, like 24-26 or so, but as long as his talents aren't dropping further, I think he'll mature into a very good (if not great) hitter.... Someday.

Nice sim. Ben Lutske hitting for the cycle. Does the game not keep track of this? Can't find the list...

Matt, you might have the answer to this depending on how far you are into CatoBase, but what's the TWB record for runs scored in a season by a team?

I think the story said he was the 66th. But there is no list kept by ootp. However, jdw put one up on the TWB boards 2 seasons ago.

I had to check all the almanacs, but it was 985 runs by the 1929 Philadelphia A's. They were 98-56 and, of course, lost the WS to the Phillies that year. But their offense featured:

1B Sal Rossi (.365, 11, 105) HOF
2B Slap Hertzog (.299, 11, 93) HOF
3B Brian Roberge (.314, 95)
LF Bull Zegri (.337, 21, 128) HOF
CF Ben Baum (.355, 22, 104) HOF
RF Torrin "Old King" Cole (.319, 24, 106)

The biggest offensive period was the late 20s.

TIGERS COACHING CHANGE:

Our pitching coach has stepped down due to "health concerns". As luck would have it, we already have a replacement ready:

Bob Guilderson - Bob has only been retired for a year and a half, but he has been bored out of his mind and eager to get back into baseball in any capacity. He spent his entire ML career as a Tiger winning 239 games and is on the career leaderboard with 2036 Ks. An exteremly loyal man, he's also provided excellent leadership in the locker room. He has 22 years of professional pitching experience to draw upon. On top of all that, he's played ball with just about everyone on our roster so he can step in and give input right away.

With the Tigers underachiving as badly as they are, I'm sure the rest of the coaching staff is feeling the pressure.

WEB PAGES UPDATED...

June 1951

The Athletics continue to roll along at an astounding pace. They went 21-6 in June and have flown out to an incredible 13.5-game lead over the equally surprising Red Sox. The A's pitching staff leads the majors with a 3.24 team ERA. Their core of talented young arms is beginning to really scare other AL teams. Ellis Weeks won the June POTM award and is 11-2 with a major league best 2.14 ERA. Bob Stevens is 11-3 with a 2.67 ERA that ranks 3rd in the AL, and Tad Zonkas is 8-6 with a 3.36 ERA. Meanwhile, the offense is in a 3-way tie with the Red Sox and Cardinals for the best average in the majors (.276) and Philly has scored the 2nd most runs in the majors to Boston.

In the NL, the Braves imploded early in June by losing 14 of their first 16 games. They improved over the final two weeks of the month, but by that time they were 5-games back and looking up at the Cardinals, Reds, Giants and Pirates.

In The News

June 24: A power failure at Forbes Field delayed the start of the game with the Cardinals by two hours. Rain held up play in the sixth inning by another 36 minutes, pushing the ending to 1:56 a.m., the latest game played to date. Thanks to a dramatic pinch hit 3-run homer with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th by Cecil Reed, the Pirates won 4-3.

June 27: Former Reds farmhand Theo Pietsch brought a $450,000 suit against baseball, the Cincinnati Reds and owner Chris Creed, citing a back injury he suffered in 1946. His suit contends that "negligent" coaching allowed him to continue with flaws in his swing that resulted in damage to his back and the end of his career.

June 28: The singer Helen Traubel sells her estimated 5,000 shares in the Browns to Bill Veeck and urges her fellow stock holders to do the same.

Go Joe Rodabaugh. "Roadhouse" saves his hits for when they count. 57 hits and 66 RBI this season. Now hitting over .200 for the first time in his career!

Leading the NL in HR and RBI, 4th in Slg, 8th in Doubles, 2nd in extra base hits.

Sure he takes advantage of the short foul lines at the Polo Grounds, but the 6'4" slugger is also one of the few hitters who can send one into the farthest reaches of the CF stands.

Oh really now. Considering he hasnt played for me since 1948 and he was a bum when he started, I plan to crush him like an ungrateful bug

Must ahve been a bad month for pitching. And isnt that the reaction that we've ha for most of these when they went to such pitching powerhouses and Walt Gajan, Hal Lepre, and James Bajofer?

And speaking of Gajan:

Quote:
2.60 Walt Gajan, CIN
He plays for Pittsburgh now.

Man what a wild SIM. Half of my team is in a slump, my pitching is in a collective slump, and my third base glove king is down till August, yet we're in 2nd! SOmeone want to explain this to me?

Hippard hit .217 and had a .532 OPS in April of this year. He's now up to .321 with a .868 OPS for the season. It's really nice to see him put up some good numbers, as he's simply gotten a little better each of the past few season. To my fellow GM's: he's through waivers in both leagues already...

I think it's ironic that two of the greatest hitters of all time are related in a weird way. IRL, they're grandfather/grandson. In TWBL, they're...well...related.

That would explain JT's intrest in Jones.

Well if waiver claims mean anything

TIGERS COACHING CHANGE #2

It must be an epademic, but no, our hitting coach was offered a manager spot on a non-affiliated minor league team. So we wished him well and were pleased to announce that we have offered the Hitting and 3B coach spot to another ex-Tiger Kid Fite (45). Kid Fite - Hired a few days after Bob. Fite is not the vocal leader that Bob Guilderson brings to the club house. He's more of the lead by example type. He racked up 3699 hits and hit .329 in his amazing 23 year career. He also knows a little bit about winning as he was a huge part of the 1928 Detroit World Series victory and won another in 1942 with Washington. An amazing fact - he only at 4 minor league at bats before securing a starting spot on Detroits active roster in '22 hitting .260. He was never once sent back to the minors. He even finished his final season as a starter with a .315 average that last year making people wonder if he could have continued playing well into his 40s.

Arden Killbreath must be feeling something's up the way his coaches are abandoning ship. Hopefully Fite and Guilderson will provide this team a boost as we need all the help we can get to catch them darn A's.

Sorry, I probably could have worded that better, but I'm in a hurry today.

And, as always, I look at things from a Tigers point of view rather than a league point of view. I should leave the reporting to the professionals.
