On June 30, the international nation registration passed for players to enter the IBF World. The IBF has announced that 3 countries have been approved, and they will be announced in the August newsletter.

Preseason Predictions

Expansion years can be weird..... I've run a few sims of the season and Calgary usually nets out between 6-10 wins, which still is awful, but not as bad as 1-43! We will see.

2012 New Nation Registration

The following three nations have sent in accepted registrations for players to begin signing with IBF teams during the 2012 off-season:

Aruba

Continent: North America
Population: 102,911
GDP Rank: 173

Aruba, a tiny Dutch Caribbean island off the coast of Venezuela, has dry, sunny weather, blond beaches and gentle surf. Constant trade winds bring cool breezes and cause the divi-divi trees to slope southwesterly. European influence shows in architecture that features Dutch gables painted in tropical pastels. It’s also evident in language, with English, Dutch and Spanish spoken alongside the local tongue, Papiamento.

Curaçao

Continent: North America
Population: 153,500
GDP Rank: 169

Curaçao, a Dutch Caribbean island, is known for its beaches tucked into coves and its expansive coral reefs rich with marine life. The capital, Willemstad, has pastel-colored colonial architecture, floating Queen Emma Bridge and the sand-floored, 17th-century Mikvé Israel-Emanuel Synagogue. It’s also a gateway to western beaches like Blue Bay, a popular diving site.

Nicaragua

Continent: North America
Population: 6,080,000
GDP Rank: 134

Nicaragua, set between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, is a Central American nation known for its dramatic terrain of lakes, volcanoes and beaches. Vast Lake Managua and the iconic stratovolcano Momotombo sit north of the capital Managua. To its south is Granada, noted for its Spanish colonial architecture and an archipelago of navigable islets rich in tropical bird life.

Player Trading

League owners across all 19 teams + incoming Toluca have agreed upon a new resolution that will be enacted as of August 1, 2012. Starting that date, all teams will be able to trade interleague to each other. The federation owners believe that allowing flexibility to move players between leagues will allow for a freer market for players to reach their full potential (both skills and monetarily) and play in leagues that suit their skill level.

The federation will report on all initial trades in the weekly report as they happen.

2013 Continental Championship

As previously announced, the 2013 Continental Championship will include the United States, Canada, and Mexico as usual. Additionally, Puerto Rico will be entering their first tournament as they have reached the minimum amount of active players. The double-elimination tournament seeding will be as follows:

1. Mexico
2. Canada
3. United States
4. Puerto Rico

Mexico Baseball League Rosters and July Players of the Month for Canada and the United States to come as we wrap up the monthly recap!

Week 9: August 13 - August 19, 2012

World Transactions

Washington trades RF Shawn Ward (USA) to Montreal for 1B Nate Brunskill (CAN)

Dallas trades SS Raul Galvan (MEX) to San Francisco for RP Koryusai Saito (JPN) and C Josh Brown (USA)

New York trades 3B Ray Phillips (USA) to Montreal for RP Elijah Chardon (CAN)

Philadelphia trades CF Mario Ramos (MEX) to Vancouver for 2B Jared Jackman (CAN)

Philadelphia trades RP Ethan Prince (USA) to New York for LF Kevin Veltre (USA) and RP Wayne Rinehart (USA)

Analysis Points (New Feature!)

- Trade deadline is tomorrow in the game, so maybe one or two more deals slip through, but this is probably it until the off-season.

- Love Montreal going for it by acquiring Ward from Washington. Ward's in the middle of a career year (8 HR 40 RBI in WSH) and will boost the middle of a powerful MON lineup. Added some nice vet presence in Phillips as well.

- The SF/DAL deal is amazing. You rarely see two contenders move 25 year old pieces under control, but here they are. Galvan wasn't getting the playing time he needed behind Bob Hudson, and SF's bullpen is pretty stacked, so it makes sense. These teams could very easily meet in the US playoffs and/or Champions League play.

- It was time for Philly to move on from Ramos and he'll get a nice chance in Vancouver to break out. The Canadian league is still much weaker than the US league for now, so I think this will help. Montreal is the only team I think better than any USA team (Miami, Boston) at this point - and even then it's close. Philly has done a good job buying/selling at the same time as they are fighting on the bubble but aren't real contenders.

All 5 playoff spots have been decided - the last two games will determine seeding. And as we can see, it's very close across all five teams. Should be a very competitive playoff season in the USABL!

2012 Champions Bracket Released

The upcoming 2012 Division I Championship has been released. This is one of two tournaments in the four year cycle where teams from different continents can play against each other (the other being the Club World Cup). All 19 teams that participated in league play this year will be invited to this inaugural tournament. The double-elimination bracket can be seen below. Each matchup will take place has a best 2-out-of-3 series. This tournament will be held in Los Angeles, USA.

2013 North American Championship Bracket

With Puerto Rico announcing their participation in the 2013 international tournament last month, the IBF has released the bracket for the 2013 championship to take place in March in Mexico. This tournament will also be double elimination with best 2-of-3 matchups.

Kind of a light update this time around, but there's not too much to report. Expect a similar schedule going forward each month:

July: June Players of Month, Yearly Club Rankings, Announcements of new Club Teams for Following Year

August: July Players of Month, Yearly Nation Rankings, New Registered Nations

September: August Players of Month, Brackets Released

Ultimately, as seasons get longer these will be iterated upon, but that's the schedule to expect for these newsletters for the time being. Coming up next, the first round or two of the USABL playoffs and the MEX/CAN seasons hit the second to last week of their regular season.
