Can you explain to me how you do your alternate reality stuff? Like how do you pick your ideas and where do you get all of your political info from? I am planning on doing some of the same things you do. Hope you dont mind me stealing your ideas!
Yep, Old Roy called it quits. The aging factor was originally set at +10% since it's a rougher world. I changed it to +5 % around 1910 when I saw that it was having a greater effect than I wanted. I'll be posting the final stats for each fictional player in the signup thread eventually.

As for my sources, I mainly use Wikipedia and extrapolate from there, specifically the pages dedicated to each year of the 20th Century. Here's 1912 as an example. I don't really plan too far ahead...maybe 2-3 years, but I do have a file where I save possible ideas for personalities/conflicts of the coming years. Some I use exactly how I initially envisioned...some I use in a different manner than I originally intended (an example would be Tom Pendergast) ....still other ideas I just end up tossing out.

Good luck with your dynasty. I'll be watching

Guys, I'm feeling rather sick, so the World Series probably won't go up tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

Sambo just keeps getting better, my only wishes for him are that he gets a MVP Award and World Series ring before he retires.

1913 WORLD SERIES

9/23/1913 - GAME 1 COLONELS 5 - SCARLETS 2

The Colonels posted 5 runs in the 1st inning off of 29 win George Merritt and never looked back. Cincy rallied for 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th, but it was too little too late. Ray Demmitt led the Colonels with a 2 for 4 performance.

9/24/1913 - GAME 2 COLONELS 4 - SCARLETS 6

In Game 2, the Scarlets struck back, getting out to a 6-1 lead on homers by Doc Wiley and Clyde Milan off of "Bullet Joe" Rogan. The Colonels posted 3 in the 9th on a tater by "Slats" Blackburne, but the Cincy lead was too big.

9/26/1913 - GAME 3 SCARLETS 4 - COLONELS 1

Game 3 looked to be a pitchers' duel for the first 6 innings as Cy Falkenberg and Elmer Knetzer held each team scoreless. It didn't last, however as Clyde Milan latched onto one in the 7th for 2 runs and Cincy never looked back. The Scarlets received bad news though as Falkenberg had to leave in the 8th with a pulled bicep. It isn't known whether he will be able to pitch again this week.

9/27/1913 - GAME 4 SCARLETS 0 - COLONELS 1

"Smokey Joe" Wood and George Merritt kept the bats under lock and key until the bottom of the 9th when Mo Jenks hit a leadoff pinch hit triple and Bobby Stine knocked him in 2 batters later with a walkoff RBI slap single down the first base line. The Series is tied at 2 with only 3 games to go.

9/28/1913 - GAME 5 SCARLETS 2 - COLONELS 3

In another close game, "Bullet Joe" Rogan and Christy Mathewson battled it out all game long until Ray Demmitt broke out of his 3 game slump with a 2 RBI double in the bottom of the 8th.

9/301913 - GAME 6 COLONELS 6 - SCARLETS 7, 11 innings

The Scarlets proved their mettle in a game for the ages in front of an exuberant home crowd. Down 6-5 in the bottom of the 9th with one out to go, Mike Donlin knocked in Augie Phelan to tie it up and send it to extra innings. In the 11th, the Scarlets sent it to Game 7 with a walkoff RBI double from Doc Wiley, who is having a phenomenal Series. The ball is definitely in Cincy's court now.

10/1/1913 - GAME 7 COLONELS 8 - SCARLETS 1

"Smokey Joe" Wood helped Louisville silence the naysayers by shutting down the Scarlets for the 3rd time, as Game 7 proved to be a cakewalk for the young upstarts. Bobby Stine led the Colonels with 2 hits and 2 RBI and supersub Mo Jenks started the final 3 run rally in the 9th by getting a pinch-hit single, stealing 2nd and 3rd, then scoring on a Frank Schulte single. Afterwards, Jenks was criticized by Cincy management for pouring salt in the wound, but in Louisville, he's adored despite only playing off the bench for now. It looks like David can beat Goliath.

1913 WORLD CHAMPS - LOUISVILLE COLONELS
1st Championship

SERIES MVP: "Smokey Joe" Wood - 2-0, 0.36 ERA, 24.2 IP, 19 Hits, 2 BB, 19 K

NOTEWORTHY EVENTS - 1913

* italicized events actually happened

  • January 17 - Henry Lane Wilson, U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, is recalled from his post by President Fairbanks due to what is seen as his excessive bias towards General Victoriano Huerta, especially considering the unconfirmed reports that the Mexican dictator has been communicating with D.H.R.V. military advisors.
  • January 28-30 - The Socorro Pact: On orders from President Fairbanks, United States Brigadier General Frederick Funston meets clandestinely with Mexican revolutionaries Pancho Villa and Venustiano Carranza in the small city of Socorro, Texas. After lengthy negotiations, Funston agrees to supply the rebels with arms and supplies in exchange for intelligence.

General Frederick Funston, Pancho Villa & Venustiano Carranza

  • February 1 - New York City's Grand Central Terminal opens as the world's largest train station.
  • February 3 - The 16th Amendment to the United States Constitution is ratified authorizing the Federal government to impose and collect income tax.
  • March 4 - President Fairbanks takes the Oath of Office to begin his second term. Chief Justice Teddy Roosevelt presides over the ceremonies, which are interrupted by suffragettes picketing and chanting, "Keep your promise, Charlie!" referring to Fairbanks' campaign support of universal women's suffrage in 1908. Suffrage has been granted in a number of western states, but not at the federal level.

Suffragettes of all ages march in Washington

  • March 15 - The US Army forms the 1st Aero Squadron under Capt Charles Chandler at Texas City to scout for Mexican incursions along the border.
  • March 25 - Venustiano Carranza announces his Plan of Guadaloupe and begins his rebellion against Victoriano Huerta's government as the head of "Constitutionals"
  • April 3 - The Brooklyn Perfectos take up residence in newly completed Ebbets Field
  • April 8 - Passing of the Seventeenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, dictating the direct election of senators.
  • May 2 - Battle of Saltillo: Álvaro Obregón leads rebel forces in an assault on the city of Saltillo, capital of the Mexican province of Coahuila. They are pushed back, but not without inflicting serious damage on the city. Fires rage for days after the battle.
  • May 5 - General Victoriano Huerta wires President Fairbanks in protest of the Battle of Saltillo, claiming that the rebel forces were supplemented by the U.S. National Guard. He demands immediate cessation of any aid.
  • May 6 - Presidents Fairbanks responds with transcripts of communications between Huerta and D.H.R.V. and a single quote from American clergyman Edwin Hubbel Chapin: "Ostentation is the signal flag of hypocrisy". He concludes with the words, "Do not test me."
  • June 1 - 28,000 Mexican troops attack San Diego, California. Simultaneously General Huerta issues a declaration of war. They are repelled 4 days later.
  • June 4 - The battleship USS Alabama is sunk by D.H.R.V. submarines off the coast of Florida.

D.H.R.V. submarines are stationed in the ports of Veracruz, Tampico and Cancun

  • June 6 - In an emergency session, Congress unanimously approves President Fairbanks' request for a declaration of war on Mexico and D.H.R.V.. The Great Global War begins.
  • June 7 - In accordance with treaty, France declares war on the United States.
  • July 7 - U.S. forces, supplemented by rebel forces led by Pancho Villa, capture Ciudad Juarez.
  • August 4 - In China, province of Chungking declares independence. Chinese republican forces crush the rebellion in a couple of weeks
  • September 13 - Roland Garros of France, introduces a revolutionary method of destroying enemy aeroplanes by placing a forward-firing machine-gun on his aeroplane and metal deflector plates on the wooden propeller. He shoots down three enemy planes in one week.
  • September 30 - D.H.R.V. inventor Rudolf Diesel successfully defects across the English Channel. His small craft is sunk by a French warship, but Diesel survives and is rescued 2 days later by an English fisherman.
  • October 22 - Based on observations of Garros' plane, Anton Fokker designs an improved firing system known as the interrupter gear. This invention singlehandedly shifts the aerial advantage back into the hands of the D.H.R.V.
  • November 7 - The Mexican Navy captures the nearly completed Panama Canal.

So the Great War has begun, with battles on American soil. I like the approach you took Pete. I've always wondered what would have happened had Mexico accepted the Kaiser's offer IRL.

Which countries are on which side? A few things have kinda confused me there; do you think you could just briefly outline the war thus far?

I just got back from the movies (saw Silent Hill....it was made by an idiot savant. Visually revolutionary with truly horrendous dialogue and a decent, but overly complicated plot. All in all, a C+). I'll post a rundown of the countries involved and their leaders tomorrow evening.

How many ballplayers should we expect to see go fight in this war? Also on killing Rosa Parks I can't wait to see how you change that history. Also one final question. I've seen amendments passed as they historically were. Are we going to see some amendments get passed earlier, not passed at all, or just new ones all together?

All of the above.

As for fighting in the war, I haven't really decided yet. I haven't even decided how long the war will continue. It's going on it's 8th year already.

1914 Prospect Watch: ACE "POKERFACE" BOOMCHENKO

Scouts haved nicknamed this Russian expatriate "Pokerface" for the dead-eyed glare he dons while on the mound. Insiders say however that his facial expressions are simply the true reflection of a lack of mental activity, adding that the only time he strays from a constant blank look are when he giggles to himself randomly and apparently for no reason. Whether or not Boomchenko (or Vhumczenko in the original spelling) is mentally unstable is besides the point. He can hurl the ball down the pipe with the power of a cannon and the accuracy of a sniper. He will certainly be picked among the top 5 this season.

Talents (Stuff/Control/Movement): 85/70/70
Current Ratings: 43/35/35

1914 FINAL STANDINGS

For the 4th straight season, the Scarlets walk away with the Continental League title. Again, Christy Mathewson, who has become a legend already througout the majors by breaking the 300 win barrier, and Cy Falkenberg both notched 20 win seasons, allowing the team to coast to an 11 game victory. 103 wins is also a team record. Other teams in the CL had standout years, but they also had numerous holes. It looks like that it may remain the Scarlets' crown to lose unless the other teams make some drastic improvements.

At only 26, St. Louis' Tris Speaker won his 4th batting title. His teammate, Ray Chapman, led the league in RBI and is fast becoming a fan favorite across the country. Louisville's ace Bullet Joe Rogan won 27 games, but the rest of the Colonels had down years as they finished in a three-way tie with the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Knights, 11 games off the pace of the Maroons. Detroit's B.B. Baran continued his power output with 23 homers while Sam Kingma had an off season, only hitting 12., The Barons need more than that to get out of 7th place, though. A full season out of Walter Johnson might help.

1914 WORLD SERIES PREVIEW

CONTINENTAL LEAGUE CHAMPION: CINCINNATI SCARLETS (103-51)

Team Batting Average: .255 (6th)
Team ERA: 2.59 (1st)

Top Batters:
Jimmy Dalton - .310, 76 RBI
Doc Wiley - .308, 62 RBI, 29 SB
Leroy Grant - .288, 72 RBI, 19 SB

Top Pitchers:
Cy Falkenberg - 20-9, 2.46 ERA, 315 K
Christy Mathewson - 25-12, 2.23 ERA, 274 K
George Merritt - 17-10, 2.95 ERA, 154 K

FEDERAL LEAGUE CHAMPION: ST. LOUIS MAROONS (94-68)

Team Batting Average: .257 (4th)
Team ERA: 3.49 (8th)

Top Batters:
Tris Speaker - .331, 78 RBI
Ray Chapman - .284, 106 RBI, 23 SB
Guy Zinn - .274, 87 RBI

Cincinnati has the best pitching staff in the league yet again. Their experience should help them roar past the Maroons, who do have Speaker and Chapman, but not much else.

PREDICTION: Scarlets in 5
