Johnson has hit a homerun once every 29 plate appearances, on average; Swisher's hit one every 26. Johnson walks once every 8.7 plate appearances; Swisher once every 9.4. There's not much difference there. Almost all the difference between the two is wrapped up in their difference in batting average.

PRE ASB numbers had Johnson at a .832 OPS, and Swisher at .759, the biggest difference being Johnsons .379 OBP compared to Swisher's .311

From watching the games, it really looked like Johnson had difficulty adjusting to defenses putting an infield shift on him. Swisher, however, showed signs of improvement from 1st half to 2nd half in 2005.

Anyways, I don't know wtf I'm talking about :P You guys are the sabr guys, I'm just a hack who's trying to learn about statistical analysis.
Have another look at the numbers, Mike, DJ's numbers dipped in the second half as a result of a terrible month of September. But, if you look at both DJ and Swisher month to month, DJ had a better OPS every month except for September and Swisher was nothing special during that month either, DJ just had a REALLY bad month.

I made the mistake of pointing out Huston Street to my wife. Hours later he was my new desktop background in XP (we have seperate logins, but she replaced my hot latina chick).

EARTH TO ASSHAT:

Marco Scutaro needs to be playing a minimum of five times a week while he's hitting .467!

I really want Ken Macha to take a long leave of absence. Maybe it'll turn out that he's been throwing games and the A's can get a manager who understands concepts like "Don't have Mark Ellis bat leadoff when he isn't hitting while a hot as hell Marco Scutaro is rotting on the bench."

Edit: Ellis flies out on the first pitch of the game. I hate you, Ken Macha.

Ok, we're in agreement in principle I think. Somewhere we're not connecting well. But, you know, there's lots of people who would take Ichiro over Dunn and call us fools for thinking otherwise. If we're limiting this to just hitting, I want Dunn over Ortiz, too. But if you said I had to take Ortiz as my DH I wouldn't fight it.

When I'm comparing two players, strike outs really might be the last thing I consider. Ok, I'll look at that before sac bunts. But you get the idea. I really just don't put very much stock into it at all.

dola,

With the off day we could have skipped him in the rotation, but Macha doesn't have the cajones.

EDIT: I typed this as the three-run homer left the bat.

I'm not sure I can accurately describe the awesomeness of watching Aaron Rowand hit a 2 run homer about 4 minutes before Nick Swisher hits his second homer of the night. No time for a refractory period!

Uh... yeah.

Why is Halsey in when the Twins are up by 1 run? I wouldn't trust this guy with a 10-run lead.

Macha, wake up!

Twins win 6-5.... the only positive of that (and miniscule at that) is that Joe Nathan is on one of my fantasy teams and got a save.... but that drops the A's to 5-4.... still early tho... i love the firemacha.com!

Going to the Metrodome always sucks. Hopefully Bob's Big Boy can keep us from getting swept and then it's back home for nine games.

I'd much rather have Suzuki 2001-2005 over Dunn in the same period.

A's GM must be really stupid to hire and then stick with Macha as manager. To bad he isn't as sharp as the savvy Oakland fans.

Still, Beane didn't sign David Ortiz to an extension, so there's hope for him, yet.

Why's that? I was talking just offensively; Dunn has been superior to Ichiro each and every season over the past five years.
