Chase Dollander split his college time between Georgia State and Tennessee. Despite bRef not knowing his handedness, he's a righty starting pitcher who's gone 14-3 with a 3.02 ERA in two years of NCAA play.

On July 4, 1932, in a game between the Yankees and the Senators played at Washington’s Griffith Stadium, in bottom of the seventh, Bill Dickey landed a hay-maker smack dab into the jaw of the Senators’ right-fielder, Carl Reynolds, breaking it in two places.

Following a failed suicide bunt and a botched play at third, Reynolds raced home and barreled into catcher Bill Dickey. A violent collision ensued, with Dickey apparently getting the worst of it. After Reynolds got up and started walking away, he suddenly reversed course and returned to the scene to be sure he touched the plate. Meanwhile, Dickey, dazed from the collision, at first thought Reynolds had deliberately tried to hurt him with the hard slide. He now suspected Reynolds was returning to continue the altercation…and maybe to even get another piece of Dickey. At least that’s what went through his mind. So, Dickey reacted reflectively and struck first, sucker-punching Reynolds right in the kisser. The aftermath did not go Dickey’s way. American League president Will Harridge levied a $1,000 fine and a 30-day suspension.

Years later, Bill Dickey, commenting about the fracas, said, “I never was so sorry about a thing in my life. It seems that the Senators had shouted to Carl to return and touch the plate. There had been bad blood between the two clubs. I thought he was coming back to strike me. I struck first. That tells the whole story. Pitcher Lucas Williams played two seasons of minor league ball after pitching for Central Missouri in college. He's out of pro ball now but, BaseballGOAT, I think this was one of the guys that the development engine gave a career to in your save. I like to think he will someday google this and be happy there is a parallel universe where he made the bigs.

Zaid Diaz is a 2023 OF/LHP/1B with a 5-11 189 lb. frame from Miramar, FL who attends ESB Academy. Strong and physical build. 6.87 runner in the sixty. Primary outfielder on defense, gets good jumps on the ball and shows some range, throws from a high arm slot and makes accurate one hop throws, solid overall defensive fundamentals.
