I really want to do something like this for the SSBL.
I will never match matt's write ups or jdw analysis but I am going to start a thread in here none the less when things gets going. |

I was randomly pulling up various player pages on the TWB site and came across an oddity: Schoolboy Emberling, back in 1940, shows an astounding 78 HRs given up. To my recollection that was before HRA was a recorded stat in TWB, and sure enough, both prior to--and subsequently for 6-7 years--Emberling is not credited with any HRA.
My questions: What is the official TWB record thus far for HRs allowed, and is poor Schoolboy a victim of weirdness unexplainable? |

The Schoolboy this is some nuttiness in the conversion process. Looking at the almanacs, Emberling gave up 19 HR to lefties and 16 to righties in 1940, for a total of 35. On the same team, Fitzgerald gave up 33, Mills gave up 34, and Gibbs gave up 19.
43 - W. Lloyd (DET) 43 - J. Arsenault (SLA) Frank Smith gave up 3 in 339 that season, which is ridiculous. ![]() I could take a look, but it will take a while. Maybe over the weekend. I need to burn these almanacs on my work PC onto a CD that I can take home (rather than re-download). John |

On Lutzke
He's up to 426, so he's not going to get to 477.4 to qualify barring a few long extra inning games. One of the killers is that Mets is still "resting" him, and one of the games he sat was an 11-7 sluggfest. Lee got 5 PA up at the top of the order, while Morris came in for just 1 PH at bat. On the other hand, Skeeter is one BB away from breaking his own BB record. John |

On Kress...
He has 139 RBI on the year. The major league record is 156 set by Oscar Vancini in 1939. Tyrell Chestnut set the AL record in 1930 with 155. The Tigers have 22 games left. 17+ RBI in 9 games is out of the question. He has 127 Runs, and his own TWB record for runs is 137, set in 1948. Basically a run a game... that may be possible if he and the team stay hot. He scored 14 in the first 12 games of the month. In the batting race: 1 R. Kress (DET) .359 2 H. Badeau (PHA) .357 3 D. Kitterman (DET) .353 4 D. Thompson (SLA) .352 5 J. Champagne (SLA) .349 6 J. Ditty (NYA) .346 7 C. Helbig (BOS) .344 Tight... really tight. Anything can happen. He's up 10 HR on Arrendale, and 20 RBI on Johnson in those races. John |

Morris finished with 469 PA. Perhaps 2 games, no more than 3 games worth of PAs.
Under the current rules, one would at 9 AB to his total, and since the .378 would beat Kress, Morris would be listed as the BA Champ with a .386 BA. In RL, this has happened twice - Bill Madlock in 1981 and Tony Gywnn in 1996. The 3.1 PA rule was implemented in 1957, and the "Added In Hitless At Bats" was passed for the 1967 season. Actually, the Added In Hitless At Bats was in force in 1951-54 under the old 2.6 AB per Team Game. It's when one looks at the 2.6 AB per team game - Morris would have qualified under the rules of the time. 2.6 AB per 154 games is 400 AB. So year, Morris got screwed all around because the OOTP Engine isn't smart enough to figure things out. Anyway, congrats to Kress for the TC. I'm a well known fan of his. I susect Morris has a BA Title in the cards in the next couple of years. John |

Ok, that's just insanely unfair. This is like Mickey Vernon being awarded the batting title, except this is worse. Bah.
Anyways, congrats to Kress. Both of these guys are great players, and we'll have fun watchin them. |

> Can you say ROY?
He didn't play enough. It will got to someone else like Poulos who gave the A's 540 PA of .333/.378/.416 ball with 69 Runs and 52 RBI. The worry about would be that he flatten's out because of the "rush" like Baker (Yanks) and Perry (Pirates). He has a higher contact potential than either of those currently, though I don't recall what theirs were when drafted. He is one notch below Baker in power and eye, and even with Perry in those (and one up on Perry in gap). Ironically, all were taken with the #1-2 pick. Perry played a full year in AAA, Dietrich a little less than half, and Baker went straight into the Yanks starting line-up out of college. John |

Matt, how many Negro league players will you be adding in 1951? You did say each team would eventually get one, right? I'm quite interested of course, because I have yet to receive one

![]() I can only imagine how things could have been different if the dice had rolled Chief Harrington to us. One more starter on my team over the last few years... I drool over the idea of the number of pennants he could have helped us win.
