LansdowneSt I have a request...

Could you do Paddy Quinn's FG with your amazing AI software? I was working with a drawing when I did him and I just realized that my FG is a fake 300b one... There is a photo now but I know my result would be poor since a lot of cleaning would be needed.

Thanks!

Edit: Also I know you already did FG for a player with only a profile picture so if you feel like it Amos Booth is one player missing in the database because it's impossible to do a conventional FG with the type of picture available for him...

Paddy Quinn

Patrick "Paddy" Quinn played in the National Association in 1871 and 1875, and in the young National League in 1877. He first appeared in professional baseball with the 1871 Fort Wayne Kekiongas, playing catcher during the last five games of the season (the team only played nineteen all season). He played for three teams in 1875, doing his best hitting for the first one, the 1875 Keokuk Westerns, for whom he hit .327. He then played for the 1875 Hartford Dark Blues and the 1875 Chicago White Stockings. A couple years later he came back with the Pale Hose, this time when they were part of the 1877 National League.

The book Commy: The Life Story of Charles A. Comiskey states that Quinn played amateur ball for the Aetnas (previously called the Atlantics and later called the Franklins) of the north side of Chicago and was one of the first catchers to catch up close to the batter without a mask or glove. It is from the Aetnas (and thanks to the thread next door for posting) that the team photo showing Quinn comes from. - bRef Bullpen wiki

I had the AI use the photo as a starting point to get me something close to work with. I generated a couple dozen photos and they all looked like the ones shown. I used those but tried to hew back to the team photo as I shaped the facegen. Hard to tell some of the facial dimensions as the left side of the face fades out but did the best I could. I could futz with it all day but am calling it close enough and certainly better than it was. The before shown is the CUF's 300 byte file.

Thanks! This is sure better than a fake FG...

Just in case you missed it since I have edited my post later... Do you think you could give a go to Amos Booth? He doesn't face the camera in the picture but I think you did one guy like that before with the AI you use.

Trey McGough

Trey McGough grew up in Johnston, Pennsylvania, just an hour and twenty-minute drive from Pittsburgh. In 2019, he fulfilled a childhood dream when the Pirates selected him in the 24th round of the MLB draft. Three years later he is one call from the majors but for the 24-year-old, the 2019 draft is something he will never forget. “It was the step in the right direction for a dream come true,” said McGough. “That was the team I followed growing up and being part of it now and seeing the behind the scenes of the organization is really cool. The potential to be in the majors for my hometown team is exciting.” - beyondthemonster.substack.com

This month, the Baltimore Orioles selected former Pittsburgh Pirates minor-league left-handed pitcher Trey McGough in the second round of the Triple-A portion of the Rule 5 Draft. Welcome to the Norfolk Tides, Trey.

I kept the smile in the source photo as it actually looked better. If he's Rule 5, we'll probably get an official Orioles headshot in Spring Training to see if there is a better picture (or if he shaves).

Amos Booth

Amos Booth started his professional baseball career with the Cincinnati Red Stockings.1 No, not the undefeated touring team from 1869, but the tragically inept 9-56 squad from 1876. Booth was the jack-of-all-trades for Cincinnati. He opened the season as a highly-regarded third baseman, but saw as much action at catcher and shortstop as he did at third. He even pitched in three games. He was one of only three holdovers on the 1877 Cincinnati team that improved minimally, winning 16 and losing 42. Booth’s baseball career generated very few headlines; his greatest notoriety in the Queen City came later in life during his career as a city policeman. On May 27, 1897, he was involved in the shooting of an innocent man which splashed his name in the headlines across the nation and forced his move from the city. - SABR bio

I used the AI to turn the newspaper photo of him into something cleaner to start with... The before fg in the CUF pack was just a Bickerson face.

Devlin Granberg

Here's the Soxprospects.com summation of Devlin Granberg:

Potential solid organizational type. Ceiling of an emergency up-and-down player. Lacks a carrying tool, but gets the most out of what he has. Good approach, makes contact and has some power. Very instinctual player with great makeup. Defensive versatility will be key, as bat does not profile at either first base or in the corner outfield, but not enough of a standout defender to play a more important defensive position.

Redone by request... (and by necessity)

Everytime I see one of those modern players all I can think is... I really hope they don't pay the guys who produce those crappy FGs included with the game.

Even the zombies I did back in the days weren't that bad...

I'm not sure who does those shadow faces and other dark ones. They are modern players, but they don't come with the game. But Fancy must get them from somewhere. That one above was in the CUF pack. None that come with the game are like that.

85% of the fg's that ship with the game have been redone this past year and, as the one that did those redone ones,... I like 'em :P. A new list of players will come out in the spring (generally people on the 40-man). And hopefully better media photos will be done for that 15% to get some better options to work from.

It's usually the A and low A leagues, that have had terribly dark photos at times. The guy that started the CUF was in an online league with me years ago. His goal was to get a placeholder for players even if they were low quality. I actually helped him download pics from milb.com

Glad they aren't... I never play those years so I thought it was what the FGs coming with the game looked like

He should try to convert them to greyscale when the color quality isn't great... that doesn't always work but it's an easy method.

I don't think he's even around anymore. He had a meltdown with a couple people. I've talked to him a couple times through an old slack but unless he's laying low under another name, he doesn't do anything for OOTP anymore that's shared

Hi, I got a new request

Could you please make a new facegen for Liván Enrique Soto? He is currently playing for LAA.

Livan Soto

The Los Angeles Angels are set to undergo a bit of a youth movement in a few areas around their roster, and Livan Soto has quickly provided an unlikely spark at the tail-end of the season.

The Atlanta Braves signed Soto as an international free agent in 2017, but he and 12 other players were granted free agency when it was determined the Braves violated rules regarding the international bonus pool. A month later, the Angels signed Soto. The 22-year-old isn’t regarded as a top prospect in the Angels’ organization, and prior to his call-up to the Major League roster ahead of their Sept. 17 game against the Seattle Mariners, he was ranked as their No. 18 prospect.

Mainly known for his defensive talent at shortstop, Soto has quickly shown why his barrel control at the plate was a talent that piqued the interest of evaluators around MLB. Through 50 plate appearances, he’s posted a .413/.429/.630 slash and a 198 wRC+, including seven extra-base hits. -mlb.com & krqe.com

Here he is, one of the 2022 debuts I had yet to do...

Wilkin Ramos

The Pirates announced Minor League right-hander Wilkin Ramos as the player to be named from the Nov. 20 [2018] trade that sent righty Tanner Anderson to the A's.

The 18-year-old Dominican hurler signed with the A's in July 2017 for $300,000, per Baseball America. He went 3-3 with a 3.15 ERA in 14 appearances (eight starts) spanning 40 innings for the Dominican Summer League Athletics in his first professional action this year. Recently, the Mets selected him from Pittsburgh in the minor league phase of the 2022 Rule 5 Draft. - foxsports.com

BaseballGOAT, I figured it was an ask ;p

Here's the first of the three. With all of these, it goes without saying the pics had some issues but not much to choose from. Did best I could.

Cristian Charle

Some pitchers, especially relievers, don’t always need a deep repertoire when it comes to their pitches. They can get away with two, especially if they work off of each other, because they won’t likely face the same hitter more than once.

Signed out of the Dominican Republic in April 2018, Cristian Charle has been one of those pitchers who has been extremely effective out of the bullpen this year for the Bradenton Marauders. The 22-year-old was recently promoted to the Greensboro Grasshoppers for his excellent efforts with the Marauders. In 20 games, all out of the bullpen, Charle posted a 2.16 ERA, holding opponents to a .206 average while striking out 40 batters and only walking nine in 33 1/3 innings. Charle was a big part in Bradenton posting the fourth best ERA (and total strikeouts) among Florida State League bullpens. He will get his first chance to further himself up the organizational ladder pitching in Greensboro, no easy task.

He will attack Greensboro hitters with a somewhat simple, but efficient pitch-set that includes just two pitches - a cutter and a fastball. - piratesprospects.com

Charle was taken by the Marlins in the third round of the 2022 Rule 5 draft.

Here is the second. OOTP has an "h" in his first name but no one else does.
