I think the question is whether users care about seeing exactly correct service time, or if they care about players hitting arb and free agency at the right time. I'd wager more people care about the arb and FA stuff, so I'd vote for giving them incorrect service, since unfortunately we have no other way to make this work properly.

Oakland A's:
Coco Crisp's 2017 vesting option has a 750K buyout. Sean Doolittle has 2 team options in his extension. 2019 is a 6M team opt with a 500K buyout. 2020 is a 6.5M team opt with a 500K buyout Pat Venditte throws BOTH left and right (good luck coding that) Mark Canha is a Rule V draftee - has to stay on the 25-man roster or be returned to Miami I don't know if the game tracks "dead costs", and if it does, I don't know where to find it - but the A's dead costs for 2015 include: Hiroyuki Nakajima's 500K option buyout Nick Punto's 2.75M waived salary 1.5M in cash paid to TBY in the Zobrist trade It appears as if signing bonuses aren't included in contract totals (Butler signed a 3yr/30M contract = 25M in salary + 5M signing bonus. Kazmir signed a 2yr/22M contract = 18M in salary + 4M signing bonus). When calculating team salary for the purpose of luxury tax, the player's total average salary is used for multuyear contracts. So Butler counts as 10M and Kazmir counts as 11M. |

I just saw Alex Claudio on tv, he's an interesting guy, a dropdown lefty who tops out in the low 80s, and has a loopy offspeed pitch that he throws at 65 mph. I think he's only ever going to have success as a LH specialist pitching like that, but he's kind of fun to watch.

Hunter Pence is listed as being out with forearm tendinitis. He actually is out with a fractured forearm...

![]() On salaries, I've included the signing bonuses in some that I've set, but maybe everyone else hasn't. I'm not sure what our policy on that is, to tell you the truth. Last edited by Lukas Berger; 03-24-2015 at 09:08 PM. |

What do we need to set the ST to to make them fa's? 1000 would do it I guess ![]() |

Actually 1000 isn't a bad choice! A full year of service is 172 days, so if we want someone to be a FA for the first time at the end of this year, they'd need at least 5*172 = 860 days of service. I'd probably use that number, since it's as close as we can get to their real service time.

I feel like this is an arbitrary complaint I have year after year, but Johnny Cueto always gets the shaft. Here this year, like usual he is spit out as your run of the mill middle rotation ratings 3 * guy. Nevermind that he hasn't seen an ERA above 3 in four years, or that he has been a CY candidate every season since. But, I digress.

For the default roster set, do you guys just leave the "minor league options" field at 0 unless there's concrete evidence otherwise? I'm noticing a few guys who are out of options, and the vast majority who have not used any options.
There are a ton of guys in the Braves organization who have definitely used at least one option year (Bethancourt, Vizcaino, Cunningham, Terdoslavich, etc.) listed at zero option years used. Yet all the guys who are out of options are listed appropriately. I'm guessing it's pretty easy to find out if a guy is out of options - when a guy runs out, that becomes pretty readily available information on baseball sites. But before that point, nobody really mentions how many options a player has. You'd have to look up when he was added to the 40-man, and then figure out how many options he's used. Realistically, that sounds like too tedious a task to attempt, hence setting all of these players to zero options used. |

A bunch of GMs are listed in the game as having "Manager" as their preferred occupation: Cherington, Cashman, Alderson, etc.
If I hire Billy Beane as my field manager, will I suffer for having a manager that won't watch the games? Also: when I look in the history index, there are about 20 recent managers with 0-0 lifetime records (Dusty Baker, etc.), and no historical managers are in the database. Ron Wotus (Giants bench coach) has no managerial ratings, even though he managed minor league teams, and has been considered to manage major league teams. On the other hand, Brian Sabean (Giants GM) has manager ratings even though he is not a manager and probably will never be. It seems like these should be switched around...

Almost all the major league trainers have these two issues:
1) They do not have their preference set to trainer, so you don't see them in a search. 2) Their prevention ratings are all at zero. This latter is also true most of the trainers in the game. Also, it seems odd that the best scouts in the world are all Taiwanese... Last edited by frangipard; 03-25-2015 at 01:32 PM. |

[NOTE: I swear I already posted this about half-an-hour ago but there's no sign of it. Is there anyway a post would've been deleted almost immediately without me getting any notification I messed up? Forum bug? Am I crazy?]
Minor Mariners quibble(s): SP Erasmo Ramirez is out of options. In the current roster he's assigned to AAA Tacoma, so I guess this means either his out-of-options-ness was mistakenly omitted or you guys are projecting that he's going to clear waivers (this is considered unlikely in real life as he's being shopped for a trade by the Mariners before they have to waive him). I can't think of a good option for fixing this though other than putting Erasmo on the 25-man roster for now and demoting someone else who does have options (probably Taijuan Walker) to AAA for now. That way a GM playing the 2015 Mariners right now would be faced with the same situation real life Jack Z is: keep Erasmo on the 25-man, trade him, or expose him to waivers and probably lose him. I guess another option would be to simply wait until the real life Mariners trade him or lose him to waivers and update the roster accordingly then. You might have already made that decision I guess. Another couple things I thought of while writing this: - Considering that the game launched before Opening Day with speculative rosters (please, please do this going forward. The fact that last year's game launched after Opening Day really negatively impacted my desire to play), does that mean we'll be getting an Opening Day rosters patch on Opening Day? If so, that'd be really awesome and appreciated. - Weirdly, in a 2015 MLB (default settings) league, I placed Erasmo on irrevocable waivers on 4/4/2015 and by 4/6/2015 he was not on the MLB waiver wire anymore and was still on the Tacoma Rainiers, but I did not receive any notification of him clearing waivers. No message in the "GM's office" and nothing in the transaction log. Does a player clearing waivers not generate those logs/messages? Or is that possibly a bug? And finally, Roenis Elias (also on AAA Tacoma in the current roster) is a RP in the game but he hasn't appeared out of the bullpen since he was in A-ball in 2011. He's been a starter effectively all of his career and should be a SP. Sorry if these questions/complaints are based on misconceptions about how the game's roster system works. I'd love to learn. |
