1930 World Series

Mule Suttles goes 0/14 during the first 3 games of the series. The Yankees win an amazing 17-13 fourth game to go up 3-1 in the series, and the Phillies fight back to win games 5/6 to force another deciding game 7. Gehrig, Suttles and Ruth have combined for 8 home runs so far. NY’s Judd Wilson is doing his best to keep up with 4 home runs so far.

Game 7

Johnny Stuart starts for the Phillies. He’s 32-12 over the last 2 seasons, with an ERA around 4.30. Good numbers for the NL, and a great WL total. He’s 0-3, with a 9.00 ERA in 6 career World Series starts against the Yankees though. He’s got to be feeling that team has his number by this point.

The Yankees start George Stueland, who would be the team ace if Bill Foster played elsewhere. Over 8 seasons, he’s 149-91, with a 3.48 ERA. He’s won 20 games each of the last 3 seasons, and this season, had a 3.72 ERA. He’s 4-1, with a 4.28 ERA and 2 saves during his postseason career. He’s struggled against the Phillies this series, but has had nice success against them in the past.

The Yankees end this game quickly. They score 6 times in the first 2 innings, and knock Stuart out in the 4th inning. In total, Stuart allows 9 runs. Stueland goes the distance, cruising to a solid victory. Jud Wilson finishes the series with 5 home runs, 14 RBI’s, and a .500 average.

Dammit Phillies! Please tell me their MGR got the boot!

Also what happened to McFadden? Is he just a footnote in World Series history like Dickie Kerr IRL?

The Phillies manager GOT THE BOOT!!! He really did.

Fred 'Cap' Clark managed the Pirates for 25 years. At some point, i turned coaching back on(which allows coaching movement now), and he took over the Phillies in 1926. Clark took the Phillies from 58-98 in 1925, to 4 straight NL Pennants, and a 1928 World Series.

Clark's contract was not renewed following the Phillies loss to the Yankees. Ironically, Clark then joined the Yankees as their new Hitting Coach!

The Phillies have hired former pitcher Eddie Cicotte to take over the helm. Cicotte previously spent 5 years as the Giants hitting coach.

Danny MacFayden developed into a very good pitcher. He tore his Rotator Cuff in the summer of 1930. After the World Series, which he watched, he suffered a set back which resulted in his retirement from the game. Like i do with certain impact players, i edited his injury to 500 days, giving him a chance to one day return.

1930-31 Offseason News and Notes

Arky Vaughn goes first overall, and it’s a great pick. I don’t feel like there is a lot of talent at SS in baseball right now. Getting a player like Vaughn will be a huge luxury to the Browns. If they do things right, and don’t waste resources, this could be a big time building block for them.

The Phillies draft Barney Brown in the first round. This is finally what they need. Brown is a steal to go 15th. He has ace ability. Karl Adams just retired, so Brown was sorely needed. He immediately becomes the teams best pitcher.

Pete Alexander is inducted into the Hall of Fame. His overall numbers are sketchy, and normally, wouldn't get him in. I felt his prime years were dominant though. He fell off horrible during his final 3 seasons, and they did skew his career a bit.

Cicotte? Great...

Now the Phillies will start losing close games

Did it keep track of the Manager's Wins and losses when you had coaching off and then turned it on?

Yes, all manager total's are there, but obviously, they are a little skewed with the same guys managing teams for the first 25 years or so.....

1931 Regular Season

Ty Cobb has not retired. He’s ready to begin his 28th season!!

Ty Cobb

Dutch Leonard just won his 350th game. That’s quite the achievement. His 1925 shoulder injury really hurt his chances of setting any career records, but just getting to this mark is amazing. He’s probably had the best career of anyone not named Rube Waddell or Chief Bender.

Dutch Leonard

28 year old Lou Gehrig has reached the 2000 hit plateau. That’s pretty young. He’s been relatively injury free during his career, with only 2 trips to the DL. Health will play a huge role in whether he can catch Ty Cobb in the hit race.

With 1 week left in the season, we got some pennant races. Washington leads Detroit by 2.5 games after sweeping a 3 game series over the Tigers last week. In the NL, Pittsburgh has a 2.5 game lead on the Phillies. Mule Suttles has had a tough season, spending 2 stints on the DL, and hitting under .300 for the first time. Philly and Pittsburgh play 3 games against each other this week. That will probably decide the NL pennant.

Sep 24: Washington wins their 4th straight game, to clinch the AL pennant. Philly wins 2 of 3 over Pittsburgh, to close the deficit to just 1.5 games.

Sep 25: Philly shuts out the Braves 4-0, in their game at hand, and the Pirate's lead is 1. Each team has 2 games remaining.

Sep 26: A Philly loss, and a Pirates win end this thing earlier then I would have liked. The Pirate's lead by 2 with 1 to play. The Pirates end Philly’s 4 year NL pennant run.

Yankees and Phillies dynasties come to a surprising end!

Babe Ruth wins the batting title, and Lou Gehrig looks like he'll win his 5th straight MVP, but Triple Crown winner Satchel Paige will be playing in his first World Series.

The Pirates have an easy time with Washington, sweeping the Senators away, to capture their first World Title in 28 years!

Well that is good to know, as I can 'trick' the system by turning coaches off in Sep. then turning them back in March, so that I can keep Connie Mack around and the GMs I'll be using are usually the owners of the team

1931-32 Offseason News and Notes

Ty Cobb has finally retired. 28 years he spend playing this game. That’s pretty amazing. He set many longevity records, and he’s the all time hits leader, but his career was severely effected by injuries. Doing the math, in 28 years, he had the opportunity to play 4312 games. He actually played 3318, which equates to 77% of his available games. Almost 1000 games lost to injury. He was put on the DL 29 times!!! Here’s a look at that crazy long career.

From 1 legend, to another. The 1st pick, to the St. Louis Browns, is Joe DiMaggio. He enters the league at age 16, five years before real life. He’s raw, so I expect 2 season in the minors, but the Browns are putting together a nice young nucleus.

Long time New York Yankee and all time stolen base leader, Sherry Magee is the lone player inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. Magee's legs got him here. Doubles, Triples, SB's and his glove are all HOF worthy. That's enough!

1932 Regular Season

At the age of 29, Lou Gehrig has hit his 300th career home run. With his pace, Gehrig looks to be the guy who others will judge themselves with. He’s about 150 behind Ruth at this point, but it sure looks like his HR ceiling is a full floor higher then Ruth's. I do think it’s amazing that these two are teammates again in this alternate world.

Gehrig also looks like he’s about to win his 6th MVP award. So far, Harry Heilmann has won 6, and Ed Delahanty has won 7. Also, Heilmann won 5 in a row, which is where Gehrig’s run is right now. A 6th in a row would be the all-time mark. Nobody not named Mule Suttles, Babe Ruth or Lou Gehrig has won a NL MVP in 10 years.

The NL looks very competitive this season. On August 1st, 5 teams are all within 6 games of the pennant. The Phillies are not one of them.

Hilton Smith, the 3rd overall pick from the last years draft was having a rookie of the year season. This pitcher has some major talent, and at 25 years old, was ready to contribute from day 1. He just suffered a shoulder injury, which, if left unedited, would have caused him to retire. A huge blow to Smith and the Dodgers. I will now edit him down to 500 days, but still, that’s a shame. It’s such an offensive league, I get excited when I see good pitchers enter the league.

Hilton Smith

It’s now September 12th. Roughly 2 weeks remain in the season, and in the N, there are still 5 teams right in the thick of it. St. Louis, Brooklyn, Pittsburgh, Boston, and Cincinnati are all within 3 games of each other. That’s a crazy pennant race. Every game in the league is HUGE.

September 19th: With 1 week remaining, the race is even tighter. 5 teams separated by 3 games. This is the best race I’ve ever seen!

Sep 19: Brooklyn and Boston both win. Brooklyn is now tied for 1st, while Boston is 2 games back.

Sep 20: Boston, Brooklyn and Pittsburgh all lose, which helps the idle teams gain some ground, but does not change the standings.

Sep 21: Pittsburgh wins, while Boston loses again, knocking the Braves out of contention. The Reds also lose the Cardinals. St Louis stays within striking distance, while Cincy is eliminated.

Sep22: Brooklyn and St. Louis both win, putting pressure on the Pirates, who blow a 4-0 lead to the last place Cubs. Brooklyn moves into 1st, with the Pirates .5 and the Cards 1.5 back.

Sep 23: St Louis beats Pittsburgh. These two teams are now tied for 2nd place, and just a game back of the Dodgers.

Sep 24: Brooklyn with a huge win over the Braves, which guarantees them of atleast a tie. Pittsburgh eliminates St. Louis with an extra inning win.

Sep 25: Final day of the season. Brooklyn beats Boston, and wins the NL Pennant for the first time ever. It also happens right after they…..
