End of July Review
The Baseball Times
August 1, 1900 Conference Races Tighten as August Arrives As the Professional Baseball Association heads into the month of August, the standings in both conferences are starting to take shape. In the American Conference, the Detroit Lakers have maintained a strong position at the top, holding a 5-game lead over the Washington Americans. The Lakers' consistency has kept them in front, but the Americans are still within striking distance. Meanwhile, in the National Conference, the New York Saints have extended their lead to 3 games over the Brooklyn Hitmen, solidifying their position as the team to beat in the conference. With the season entering its final stretch, both conferences remain competitive, and every game will be crucial in determining who makes the World Series. John McGraw Wins Batter of the Month Honors for July Washington Americans star John McGraw has been named the American Conference Batter of the Month for July after an outstanding stretch at the plate. "I've been around Professional Baseball Association long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," said the 28-year-old McGraw. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month." In 23 games during July, McGraw posted a .448 batting average, 1 home run, 21 RBIs, and 20 runs scored. His impressive performance helped propel the Americans' offense and further solidify his place as one of the league's top hitters. For the season, McGraw is batting .418 with 3 home runs and 63 RBIs. Sam Crawford Named National Conference Batter of the Month Boston Bears fans have been treated to a star in the making as 21-year-old Sam Crawford was named the National Conference Batter of the Month for July. Crawford had a stellar month, hitting .430 with 1 home run, 22 RBIs, and 22 runs scored. His consistent bat and clutch performances have made him one of the most exciting young players in the league. "This has been a great month for me, but I know I still have a lot of work to do," Crawford said. "I'm just focused on helping my team win games." For the season, Crawford is hitting .404 with 7 home runs, 67 RBIs, and 86 runs scored, making him one of the league's top offensive threats. Standings |
