Anyone have a better Clyde Barfoot? This face is rather frightening.

This is my FG for Barfoot... He isn't perfect, the teeth are always visible, considering the picture I used was dark and shadowy but it's certainly less frightening than what you posted above

Chickazoola found a woodcut of him a few years ago I can use. Work is finally slowing down for the holidays and I'll have some time to do him this weekend.

Steve Matthias

Steve Matthias played one season in the Union Association in 1884 for the team that started in Chicago and went to Pittsburgh. Steve was with them in Chicago. The starting shortstop, he hit .275 on a team that hit .231. He died when he was around 31 years old. - bRef Bullpen wiki

Used the newspaper photo, had the AI give me a face from it, loaded the AI photo into the facegen software and then tried to align to the sketch. Better than a Bickerson.

Well, been messing around with the free version of the Modeller now that I have a PC in addition to my Mac. I've got a long way to go, but I gotta start somewhere, so here's my version of Juan Soto:

Hey Lans,
how do you go about painting a mustache on? Tinkering with the modeller, or using one of the other programs you listed?

The modeller's ability to add a mustache is limited. It can darken a light one but not fully add one very well. Heavy lifting should be done on the source file. I used to do some airbrushing on Corel and adding darkness on Adobe to the areas that needed it. Sometimes, if I then brought it over to the MyHeritage sharpener photo tool, it would convert the darkened area that its AI sees and make a legit mustache. Other times the darkness itself was sufficient. Ideally one could lift a mustache from another photo and drop it on the preferred photo like I did with the Tim Foli I posted here (or my thread, can't recall where). That's a little different than some of the cheats needed to work with a three-quarters turn stache (looks like it is on the left side but not the right kinda thing) or the darkening/lighting required if half the mustache is in shadow like AESP's one on Aaron a few posts back. But all that lightening and darkening and other adjustments to get a better starting point for the modeller to work with is best done on the source file.

Who needs a mustache that you are working on. It's a good challenge and a good way to learn the tricks. Just diving in and doing. Good to see

Before doing that if you want my oppinion it's always better to search different picture and try and try again...

It's a pain in the ass but it's the best way to learn... you will get a lot practice this way.

Edit: Glad I don't do modern players... finding a picture with no teeth is almost impossible

Ed Pabst

Ed Pabst hit well during his 12 major league games. His long minor league career ran through 1904 with many different teams, and he managed the Atlanta Firemen of the Southern Association in 1902.

"Ed Pabst, the new first baseman, comes out of the Western League, and is as fine a baseman as one wants to see, also a hard hitter and general favorite . . ." - Sporting Life of August 3, 1895 by the paper's Montgomery correspondent

"Ed Pabst, who is managing the Atlanta team and playing first base, is hitting the ball as hard and timely as ever." - from Sporting Life of May 24, 1902, which also carried the news that Pabst was tossed out of the park by a policeman on May 9 for disorderly conduct. Several other Atlanta players were removed from the game

Above info from bRef Bullpen wiki. Twelve total games. Eight for an awful AA Athletics team and then four with the Brown Stockings. Pop yourself a cold one, Ed, that's one more Bickerson gone.

With the modeller I'm messing around with this one of Dylan Cease. I've already created my own 'stache-only facial-haired Dylan Cease from a source photo, but want to learn how to paint 'staches anyway and figured this facegen would be a good place to start. I feel this is a quality facegen that really captures his eyes, eyebrows and facial structure well; it looks like him. Was not able to find the source photo for it.

If you are past the point of creation that involves the source photo, that is, only tweaking within the tools of the facegen modeler software itself, you have only two sliders to work with on a mustache. They are on the Color tab. One is the "Beard - Light/Dark" one but that will darken the entire "beard" area and quickly gets you a five o-clock shadow. The most influential one is the "Beard - Moustache Light/Dark" one - but it won't take you far. Here is my Cease (and I'm waiting for this Spring's media headshots to get one without the beard, mustache only, straight-on, no smile, no shadows), the one you posted sans facial hair, and one with the mustache slider slid all the way to the right (dark) on it.

I advise going to Getty Images and typing "Dylan Cease portrait" (if ever doing a common name, add "baseball" to that search prompt). That will get you the best Spring Training media shots to work with. Find a better source photo from there. I think that starting with a no facial hair fg, won't get you there.

Weldon Bowlin

I'm surprised by the result I got from that picture (variant of that smiling pic is all I found for him) so I post him even if the guy is pretty much a nobody... the current FG ID is wrong so you can remove bowlin001wel from your FG folder.

By the way percolaten this FG is an exemple of playing with the "beard - moustache light / dark" slider to get better facial hair...

Tug Thompson

I'm sure LansdowneSt will do a better FG but he is quite busy those days so I gave Tug my best...

He is missing in the database and a picture of him was just found... I gave him a more visible moustache because FGM told me he had one.

One for whenever

Good to see my EL FG needs have slowed to a trickle - hopefully a sign of extensive coverage having been achieved.

One who does need some attention whenever the time permits please is Gary Thurman, who seems afflicted by a mild case of vitiligo.

TIA

G
