I didn't post anything on my board or here about my dog but some of those who know me on facebook know the story ... since I got a couple of PM's about and a week has gone by I thought I'd pass it along.
Last Sunday my 9 year old German Shepherd woke up happy and playful as always ... she ran around with my 3 year old Jack Russell, played outside for a while, barked at the neighbors, "helped" Kelly clean the house like she does every Sunday. Around noon she laid down in the kitchen and started acting like her hips hurt. This is somewhat normal as she had days where she didn't want to do anything. Around 4:30 or so she started breathing real weird almost like she was hot ... we tried getting her up to get water or food and she wouldn't budge. Kelly started calling around to find the nearest Animal Hospital and I rolled her over onto her side to get her more comfortable. At this point she started gasping so I picked her 110 lbs up and took her to the car. As we backed out of the driveway we called the Hospital and told them to be ready because Cammie was having problems breathing. The Hospital was 20 minutes away, Kelly climbed in back with her and within 5 minutes she was gone. I've had to put animals down before because of illness but have never had one die so suddenly. She went from happy and playful to grave condition inside of 5 hours. The vet thinks she may of had a tumor that burst or possibly a heart attack but we didn't pay the costs for an autopsy. We got her 3 months after we got married and neither of us have handled it well this week. We got her ashes back on Friday and bringing her home felt better. Thanks to those who have passed along their condolences. The suddenness of it really shook me up. |

Sorry to hear about the passing of your dog. I hope you and your wife are doing ok. Sucks when our dogs die. 9 years isn't really that old either.
That's cool that she got in that last happy day of running around and activity. Sounds like she had a really good life with you. I'm sure she is in a good place now and you'll see her again down the road. No doubt about it, she'll be waiting. As you know, dogs are like that. Peace. |

Hey Man,
Just wanted to offer condolences on your pup, as well. So sorry to hear about that. My family and I went through the sudden loss of an 8 yr old Golden right around the same time. Your story hit really, really close to home and was so sad. Dogs just don't last long enough. No matter how old they get, they are taken from us way too soon. Sorry to pansy out here on this message. I enjoy this universe. Take care. Dave |

Sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. No matter the age they never live long enough. My wife and I lost ours a year ago, and it was and is a comfort to have the ashes. Good to hear you may be ready to get your Jack a playmate.

Yeah I think we are going to go with a Smooth-Coat Fox Terrier ... a breeder in Nashville will have a litter in late October ...
