Cardinals Koufax No-Hits Orange:

Sandy Koufax of the Louisville Cardinals was the King of the Hill today at Jim Patterson Stadium.

The Louisville starter dominated the Syracuse Orange, giving up zero hits in his 5-0 victory.

"The toughest part was the last couple of innings," Koufax recounted after the game. "You know you have a no-hitter going, and so does everybody in the ballpark. That was the hard part, keeping focused and concentrating while your heart is pounding."

Koufax recorded 18 strikeouts and 2 walks in the game.

This year Koufax has gone 6-3 with an ERA of 3.53 and has 137 strikeouts in 71.1 innings.

The number just keeps getting higher.

Old Dominion first baseman Rusty Staub has now extended his hitting string to 30 games. He did it today with 2 hits in 2 at-bats as the Old Dominion took the 3-2 win over the Marshall Thundering Herd at Appalachian Power Park.

"Who knows how long it will go on?" Marshall manager Andy Batliner said. "He's certainly tough to pitch to right now."
Rusty Staub walked in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, walked in the 7th and walked in the 9th.

Staub is hitting .359 for the season with 11 home runs, 51 RBIs and 34 runs scored. He has 71 hits in 198 at-bats and played in 53 games.

Hitting Streak Still Alive for Staub:

Rusty Staub, first baseman for the Old Dominion Monarchs, ran his consecutive-game hitting streak to 34 games with 2 hits in his club's 7-3 victory today over the Kansas Jayhawks at Hoglund Ballpark today.

"Not the outcome we wanted," Kansas manager John Breault said. "There's never a good time to lose, and it's never fun to be on the wrong end of somebody else's accomplishment."
Rusty Staub singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, walked in the 5th, walked in the 6th and grounded out in the 8th.

For the season Staub is currently batting .371 with 12 home runs and 54 RBIs. In 57 games he has reached base at a .459 rate and scored 39 runs to date.

Not sure why it doesn't mention it but he has now broken the NCAA record for a hit streak. The old record was 34 games.

Hit Streak Now at 36 for Staub:

The Old Dominion Monarchs may have proven to be mere mortals today as they lost 7-5 to the Kansas Jayhawks, but Rusty Staub continued to hit like a god.

The first baseman collected 2 hits in 3 at-bats in the loss and extended his hitting streak to 36 games.

"Staub is playing great and is on fire right now," Monarchs manager Aaron Havens said. "Hopefully his play can spark the rest of our team and help us pick up some wins."

Staub was apparently not happy with the game and when pressed by reporters in the locker room only said "nothing else matters but the loss."
Rusty Staub flied out in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, walked in the 7th and walked in the 9th.

Staub's current batting average stands at .382 and he has chalked up 13 home runs and 57 RBIs.

Bonilla Booms 300th Homer:

It was a historic day for Oklahoma State's fine first baseman Bobby Bonilla. He slammed home run number 300 in the Cowboys 6-5 loss to the Ole Miss Rebels at Swayze Field.

He told reporters after the game that he was disappointed in losing the game. "It's great to get that many homers, but I don't play for homers -- I play to win. That's the name of the game."

In his milestone-making game Bonilla went 3 for 4, scored 3 runs and collected 2 runs batted in. That home run put him in a select group of ballplayers.

In 970 games, Bonilla is a lifetime .298 hitter. He has knocked in 715 runs, scored 645 times, hit 301 home runs, walked 448 times and has an on-base percentage of .377.

Wildcats End Staub's Streak:

The Kansas State Wildcats got more than the 6-5 victory at Bud Metheny Baseball Complex today -- they also put an end to the 38-game hitting streak of Old Dominion Monarchs first baseman Rusty Staub by holding him without a hit in 3 at-bats.

After the game, Staub seemed more concerned with his team taking the loss than with the demise of his streak.

"I had some great looks at some pitches that I should have hit," he said. "I missed some that I shouldn't have swung at. All in all, I wasn't much help with the bat today."

For the season Staub has produced 89 hits in 232 at-bats for a .384 average with 14 home runs and gotten on base at a .472 clip.

"Definitely somebody's going to stop me at some point," he said later, chuckling. "I'll enjoy it for the time being."
Carney Lansford hit a three-run home run off Esteban Nazario in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th and struck out in the 7th.

#300 for Scott:

UC Irvine first baseman George C Scott blasted himself into an elite group of baseball players. Today he joined the exclusive 300 home run club in the Anteaters 4-3 loss to the Charlotte 49ers.

"As soon as I hit it, I knew it was gone. I was happy to move on. Now I can go and have some fun. It is a weight lifted off my shoulders," Scott told the press. He admitted just how much pressure he had been feeling. "Especially every time you'd get out of the hotel, everybody would say, 'Hey, when are you going to hit it?'"

In his milestone game, Scott went 2 for 3 with 3 runs batted in and 2 runs scored.

Scott has a lifetime .249 average and .329 on-base percentage in his career with 981 hits, 142 doubles, 9 triples, 300 home runs, 691 RBIs and 629 runs scored.

Donovan Twirls No-Hitter Against Jayhawks:

Montana State Bobcats starter Bill Donovan said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.

"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Donovan recalled.

The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.

The Montana State right-hander no-hit the Kansas Jayhawks 5-0 at Hoglund Ballpark, finishing with 4 walks and 15 strikeouts, facing only 32 batters.

"I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Donovan admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too."

On his stats sheet this season Donovan shows a 11-2 record, 17 starts, 133 innings, 216 strikeouts and a 1.56 ERA.

Simpson Retires 27 Straight Batters:

In front of thousands of fans at Ballpark of Cedar Falls today, Wayne Simpson pitched what will surely be the best game of his career, likely the best of the 2028 NCAA season, and perhaps the best game for years to come. Simpson was flawless for the Northern Iowa Panthers, throwing a perfect game against the Loyola Marymount Lions.

"I knew when I took the mound today that I felt good," Simpson said to reporters after the game. "I had no idea that I felt that good."

Simpson struck out 9, allowed no hits, surrendered no walks and allowed no baserunners of any kind en route to the 1-0 Panthers victory. He retired 27 batters in a row.

This season Simpson has a 3-7 record with a 5.58 ERA.

Crawford Smacks 4 Homers Against Butler:

Sam Crawford victimized Butler Bulldogs hurlers today, smashing 4 home runs in a herculean effort that will go down in the National League record books.

In an epic hitting spree at Bulldog Park, the Colorado left fielder went downtown again and again, leading the Buffaloes to a 30-6 triumph. He went 4-for-7, drove in 8 runs and scored 4 times in the historic game.

"The first ones just happened," he said later, discussing the game. "However, that last time, I was swinging for the fences -- and WHAM -- I nailed it."

Sam Crawford hit a two-run home run off Ian Garfield in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Ian Garfield in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Paul Gibson in the 3rd, struck out in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Ike Boone in the 4th, struck out in the 6th and struck out in the 8th.

Braves Players Unhappy with Field Quality:

According to a local beat reporter's unnamed source, multiple Bradley players have approached management to voice concerns about the condition of the American League Missouri Valley team's playing field.

The players met together in a private meeting before team batting practice and appointed an unnamed player to meet with owner, Dustin Strand, and manager, Cameron Forrester, to air complaints about the field's upkeep.

Apparently, the meeting's result was not satisfactory to the players and it is questionable if it will hurt the first place team's morale.

Yasiel Puig Hits #300:

Ohio State defeated Virginia Tech today 8-4 and took some of the joy out of Yasiel Puig's 300th career home run.

"I just wanted to get a good swing on the ball all day," Puig said. "And I did."

Despite the loss, it was a good game for the 27-year-old Hokies right fielder. He had 2 hits, scored 2 runs and had 1 run batted in.

The Buckeyes manager said, "You could see he was aggressive up there. The worst thing we did was throw him a strike. It probably would have been better if we threw the ball outside of the strike zone every time he came to the plate because he seemed like he was in a hurry to get it over with."

Over his career Puig is batting .297 with 157 doubles, 17 triples, 300 home runs, 707 RBIs and scored 685 runs in 1005 games.

Medwick Makes 300 Mark:

The crowd roared -- they knew they were seeing history -- and Joe Medwick was delighted, too. The 24-year-old Owls left fielder was making history with his 300th career homer. The crowd buzzed and roared again when Medwick stuck his head out of the dugout for a curtain call.

"Never, as a kid, did I ever think I'd hit even one," he told BNN after hitting No. 300 in a 9-8 victory over Cal State Bakersfield. Medwick went 1-for-4 in the game, had 3 runs batted in, and scored 1 run.

His career stats show that Medwick has batted .299 and connected for 300 home runs.

Klein Slams Milestone Homer:

Did you catch a home run yesterday? One lucky fan has a prize possession after Chuck Klein crushed his 300 home run tonight.

Klein offered the lucky fan some souvenirs and a small cash prize in exchange for the ball. The fan who caught the ball has been identified, but has not yet commented on his intentions.

"That's one you would kind of like to keep," Klein said.

The Buffaloes right fielder went 3 for 5 with 1 home run and 1 RBI as the Colorado Buffaloes won 8-0 over the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks.

The Buffaloes will be hosting a Chuck Klein commemorative poster promotion for an upcoming homestand.

Career-to-date Klein is hitting .306 with a total of 300 home runs.
