i remember visiting the boards when I first got OOTP5, and the ingame music caused a b.a. crash bug. I'd be impossible to count the number of "My game keeps crashing" posts with a "Turn the sound off" replies.

Sound Off about Sound
Gentlemen:
You can search the boards here and find me talking about sound. I have mentioned "BROADCAST BLAST" a few times. This was APBA/Miller Associates computer version of the card based game. For the mid 90's it was pretty good and you COULD customize certain game situations as well as have certain sounds associated with a ballpark. Yes, I did have Harry Carey singing at the 7th inning stretch. If you are playing individual games, it can add something to the experience. If you play a lot in commish or as GM, I don't see it adding much. Maybe some audio cues for when you need to see something. I guess at this point in the OOTP development, I'd like to see a return of record books and tweaking of present features vs. the adding of sounds AT THIS TIME. JP |

I'm going to guess that Markus was aware of that as he was developing the sound for ootp9. I would have liked to see sound added while the game was under the SI umbrella as both FM and EHM have sound in them. Perhaps while there Markus got a look at how SI does it so it turned into a relatively easy thing for him to add?

Webstore shows a PayPal option after adding the item to your cart. This wasn't always the case. Of course, OOTP9's not there yet.

Geez people, we don't even have a release date yet. Plus who knows how big this sound thing really is? It could be the one major new feature or it could be one of several. And who's to say it's automatically a disaster? Last year facegen caught people by suprise and there was some muttering about it being a waste of time when there were so many other "pressing issues" to deal with. It's turned out to be pretty popular. Who knows, sound might even be cool. Or it might suck. But right now there's no sense worrying since there's likely nothing that can be done about it. After all, Markus seems like he wants to add it. Why would he listen to people getting upset about a mentioned new feature when he knows that those people yelling haven't even tried it out yet? There's no reason to scuttle the thing until people have has a chance to weigh in with actual knowledge and not hyperbole. |

I Will be coming back to the series for this version. The pre-order price is dirt cheap. My last version was 6.5 and the new interface was not the only reason i stopped buying.
1. No sound......I just got so use to the crack of the bat, it was hard adjusting without it. 2. No Head to Head. I'd rather play the game, not just hear about it. I also think that would bring in a lot more people to the game. I alone got a few to buy and a few more waiting to see, just because of that feature alone. 3. The interface. It is true that I didn't give it much of a chance. But that, along with a few other things kept me away. But now I can't wait to buy the new one. I've been away for too long. And i'll still be hoping that one day he adds H2H to this great game. PS. Who asked if i'd buy a car for 25k going by a picture and list of featues, or pay 40k if I wanted to test drive? 25k it is, and they can pick the color! |

I would certainly have interest in OOTP9 especially with the addition of sounds.
However, the biggie for me and my old eyes would be the actual game play screens. I would like to see the option to have much less stat clutter. Just too much that I would prefer to be a click away if I needed it. And the possibility to enlarge the game script while still seeing the ballpark pic and basic stat stuff. That would be a winner for me. |

$40 - APBA Baseball for Windows has been at $70 forever, hasn't been updated for years, and makes you pay 20 to 30 a season for single season disk, and you have to pay for each stadium picture, so $40 is a real bargain to get a constantly improving game.
Sound is over rated anyway. I don't need 25000 people cheering at a 1890 game that would only had 500 people attending......

Now what would be cool is if things like that were adjusted for by that games attendance and overall fan interest. I can remember going to the Oakland Coliseum in the late 70s with 1500 people there. The sound was pathetic.

What kind of sound are we really talking about, crowd noise? the crack of the bat? take me out to the ball game? maybe a vender saying beer here, get your ice cold beer here? I dont get it,but its good its there if some people want it.
40 bucks is a steal for the best baseball sim on the planet. period. Only question I have is will OOTP 9 have more cow bell? |

I must say that I am shocked that anyone on this site would dare question the $39.99 price tag for OOTP9. Markus and his team continue to put out the greatest baseball sim on the market by a long shot. Not only do they continue to provide an amazing product with endless replayability, but they are actually responsive to suggestions. How many other products have the creators available on forums who actually respond to the customers?
I have been a fan of this series since OOTP5 and each release continues to improve in all areas. I certainly don't want to put ideas into Markus' head, but he could charge double for this game and people would be lined up to get it. Anyone who has ever been a fan of baseball and baseball sims owes these guys an endless debt of gratitude for creating this series. For those of us who have toiled with microleague, diamond mind, baseball mogul, and many many others.....we know what we have found in OOTP, and I for one must say this....God bless you Markus. You and your team are geniuses who should be applauded not criticized. Keep going strong for years to come..... |
