Yankees Jump in to Free Agent Market
Just as the Boston Red Sox were announcing a number of major signings and trades the New York Yankes went out and made a splash signing a couple of marquee players that GM Blair Davis says will allow them to compete for a playoff spot in a very tough division. The American League East with the Toronto Blue Jays and the newly revamped Yankees and Red Sox could be one of the most competative divisions in Major League Baseball this year. GM Ryan Stewart of the Blue Jays was asked about his relative lack of activity compared to his division rivals "Well we are quite happy with out team the way it is. We are still a relatively young team and that gives us a bit of stability long term, being able to keep a core group together for a number of seasons. These guys know how to win and have demonstrated it in the past. There is no doubt that it is going to be a tough division this year but we are ready for the challenge" |

Spring Training Begins: Jays Descend on Dunedin
March 3rd, 2014. After a very busy offseason that saw the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees make a big splash in both the trade and free agent markets, the Toronto Blue Jays who remained relatively quiet in the offseason headed to Florida to open up Spring Training to prepare to defend their World Series Title from 1 year ago. GM Ryan Stewart was asked about his lack of activity in the offseason "We had a few meetings after the world series to determine what holes we had to fill in the organization and what direction we would like to see the team take over the next few years. The consensus decision was that the team looks good. We have a good mix of young players and veterans and I think we have the best rotation in baseball. We weren't going to make trades for the sake of making a trade. We were targeting a few players but the price was just too high. With what Boston and New York did this offseason it should be a very competative division and I think our guys will enjoy the challenge" The Blue Jays really only have one spot open on their 25 man roster and it is for the #5 starter role. The spot was vacated when the Jays traded SP Kiminobu Hashimoto to the Red Sox in the offseason. The Jays have 2 key prospects that will likely compete for the #5 spot in the rotation. SP Salvador Parades who was the International League Pitcher of the year in AAA Syracuse and SP Ritchie MacGruder who was Parades teammate and finished with one less win than his counterpart. GM Ryan Stewart on the rotation "Like you said it is pretty much set. I don't really know who will be the #5 starter. Both of these kids had terriffic years in AAA and either one is a good addition to the rotation. they are both lefthanders so they will help us break up our rotation a little more. If I had to give an edge to someone it would be SP Ritchie MacGruder. He is older and has a few more years of professional baseball under his belt. But as always we are going to bring the best team to Toronto so it is up in the air" Spring Training Invitees: SP Ritchie MacGruder SP Salvador Parades CL Hal Nelson CL Lawrence MacMartin C Nick Williams C Chris Davidson 1B Dave Crawford 3B Paul Wood LF Juan Guerrero LF Jeff Murphy |

Jays Bash Detroit 10-2 On Opening Day
April 4th, 2014. The Toronto Blue Jays kicked off the 2014 season today with a 10-2 thrashing of the Detroit Tigers at the Rogers Center in front of a capacity crowd. SP Andy 'Major' Simmons got the ball for the Jays and the Tigers Countered with their 23 year old rookie SP Mitch 'Three finger' Gordon. Gordon a former 2nd Round Pick 34th overall of the Chicago Cubs in 2010 was traded to Detroit in 2012 and is made his big league debut on opening day in Toronto. Unfortunately for Gordon the Blue Jays bats were not kind to him as he gave up 7 runs in the first 3 innings including homeruns from RF Jim Leblanc, C Hugh Edwards and LF Felipe Montero. RF Jim Leblanc and 2B Lorenzo Vasquez lead the offence for Toronto each going 2-4 with 3 RBIs. SP Andy Simmons pitched a complete game 4 hitter allowing just 2 runs while walking 0 and striking out 13. |

Jays - Ruiz Agree to 5 Year Extension
May 8th, 2014. The Toronto Blue Jays and GM Ryan Stewart announced today that they have resigned SP Raul 'Hawk' Ruiz to a 5 year $56,500,000 contract extension that will keep the Jays star in Toronto until the end of the 2019 season. Ruiz will receive an average salary of $11,300,000 per season and it is rumoured that he will also receive a $2,000,000 cash bonus should he be named the American League Cy Young Award Winner. The deal also includes a team option and a no trade clause. The 27 year old has pitched 6 years with the Blue Jays and has compiled a career record of 106-14 with a 2.08 ERA and 1283 strikouts. GM Ryan Stewart on the extension "It is something that we really wanted to get done quickly. We started discussions back in Spring Training and we wanted to get the negotiations overwith and have his name on a new contract before the season started but it took us a little while to get it done. We are extremely happy with the length and amount of money for the deal. $11,300,000 is a bargan for a #1 pitcher in todays market" |

I Have a question for anyone who is actually reading this Dynasty. It seems to me like the whole universe is very unbalanced and I am the only team that is winning. I want to know if people would like me to continue this dynasty as is or to start a new one based on the Blue Jays and modify some of the financials a little bit (I have a budget of $108 million and only one other team is over $90 the Washington Nationals). Let me know what you think. I am open to both ideas.
Thanks Ryan |
