Just finished watching UFC 101 and I must say that I'm growing tired of all the booing. First they boo when a fight goes to the ground, next time they boo when the referee (okay, that stop was maybe a little premature. Maybe) stops a fight. Next they boo Silva for being dominant.
I'm going to stick my chin out here and say that most of the people in attendance are not MMA fans. They are not fans of the sport. They are just there, hopeful to see a quick and brutal KO served. The ignorance of "the casual UFC fan" is the one thing I dislike the most with MMA. Why the hell would you want to watch MMA if you don't like the groundgame? The event itself was nothing special imo. Silva was in a league of his own. BJ looked good and Florian looked, if not scared, like he had too much respect. Kendall Grove would probably benefit from going up a weightclass as he looked "wobbly" tonight. It made me think that he went through a troublesome weightloss procedure leading up to this fight. He would still be a tall fighter with good reach in a weightclass above his current one. Last edited by Tommysixfingers; 08-09-2009 at 02:08 AM. |

Never thought I'd see Miguel Torres lose another fight. Impressive performance by Bowles.

I'm shocked. Am I going to be the first person to make the Carano = Anna Kournikova comparison? Lotta hype for the pretty lady, lotta blood on the mat when the badass lady beat the hell out of the pretty lady. If Strikeforce plays this right they can get behind Santos and see where it goes. I believe she could be very marketable in a Brock Lesnar, mean badass sort of way. Now granted, she probably needs to learn how to speak English to really take advantage of this, but she's got a ton of credibility now.

Headed to UFC 102 at the Rose Garden right now. (Actually going to eat lunch/dinner first, then fights at 4.)
I am pretty stoked to see a live UFC for my first time. I'll be able to cross one off of the bucket list!

I've been looking at a lot of other analysts who scored the fight as it happened. All of them (with rare exception) had Rua winning at least 3 rounds, sometimes even 4.
Right before the and after judges decision was announced Machida's body language told the whole story. Before he looked like he knew he lost, and after he looked shocked. You're right, looks like a total robbery. |

And to those who are saying to be the champ you have to BEAT the champ.... watch any other Machida fight. Rua beat him hands down. Machida looked uncomfortable the whole fight, and his ribs weren't looking too pretty either.

Lot of MMA action going on in November. Last Saturday's Strikeforce was the first time I'd ever seen Fedor live on TV. Rogers had it good going on early but I guess Fedor is just too good. I wonder if anyone will ever beat him and, if they do, how.
Tomorrow we get to see if old man Couture has anything left in the tank. It's too bad the other premier matchup of the month, Lesnar vs. Carwin, got postponed as Brock has mono apparently. I was really looking forward to that but I think now I'll pass on the Ortiz vs Griffin 2 ppv (although I'll still be rooting for Griffin). |

Actually paid money for Saturday's snoozer of a card. At least got to see the UFC debut of Noguiera, who looks like he could be a contender very quickly. And looks like Koscheck may be making a case for a title fight soon.
Seeing Tito back was nice, would have been nicer if he kept his mouth shut after the fight. Cracked skull? What doctor would clear a fighter with a cracked skull? |

Just finished watching the finale of TUF season 10. This season was pitiful talentwise. No surprise that Big Country won but that speaks volumes about the quality of the rest of the field if you ask me.

Big Country made that main event epic.
From coming out to Weird Al's "Fat", to being introduced as a "Kung Fu Fighter" to the KO followed by the belly rub, he did it all. I was entertained, and amused.

Yeah, he almost made me a fan. But the unnecessary extra shot stopped me short of getting there.

I think Big Country is a pretty good fighter. The talent this season was pretty slim. Can't see anybody outside of the two finalists making a decent career.

Got to see UFC 107 this past weekend. I thought it had a bunch of good fights. Struve - Buentello was an awkward fight that had few very good highlights, at least in the first two rounds before they both got tuckered out. Guida - Florian was very entertaining. It's too bad Florian has already had his shot as he looks like a serious contender. Mir - Kongo, although short, had action. I'm surprised Mir came in that much bigger than he normally is. And then Penn totally dissected Sanchez, I though it was over in the first but somehow Diego held on. That cut above his eye at the end of the fight was nasty.
Only snoozer of a fight was Fitch - Pierce. The couple of undercard fights shown were pretty good too. |

So, apparently boxer James Toney has signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC. Interesting because he was lambasting MMA or parts of it for being "gay". I don't know quite what to make of this.
I imagine a smart fighter will either put him on the mat quickly or kick his legs out from under him. |

I thought it was pretty boring, to be honest. The group that was watching said that it was a lot of "green-card matches". Even the last match was bad. St. Pierre dominated the whole match but couldn't finish off Jeff Hardy (or whatever). The rest was boring as well. All I could think of is what if every match was 25 seconds and then someone tapped out. It'd be a huge waste of $45. I enjoyed the company and getting together with friends, but would never pay $45 to watch it. |

I ordered it on DirecTV in HD and it was 55...the audio sync was off though for most of the night so I got it credited back
outside of that....yeah it was kinda boring. That's MMA though, it can be really exciting or drag on and on. There weren't any surprises, The Mir/Corwin fight was the most exciting because Corwin beat the crap out of Mir. I'm fairly new to the sport, only a fan for a couple years but it can be quite enjoyable when you know who is fighting and know what you are watching. It took me forever to figure out what they meant when they said someone was 'passing guard' |

The only thing about Hardy is that he showed some toughness. St. Pierre had a couple of arm-bars (?) on him that should have made him tap out.
