Cards news: May 18 -- Deal sends De La Paz to Royals for two players
The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired right-handed reliever Alberson Ventura and infielder Ryan Mitchell from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for left-handed relief pitcher Yoldin De La Paz and 17-year-old minor-league outfielder German Martinez.
Ventura, 26, has pitched in 14 games for the Royals this season going 0-2 with three saves and a 2.45 ERA. He broke into the majors with Kansas City in 2029, and in 178 games he has gone 14-21 with 100 saves and a 3.49 ERA. The 25-year-old Mitchell has bounced back and forth between Kansas City and AAA Omaha the past few seasons. This season, he has spent the entire year at Omaha and in 35 games/34 starts has hit .336 with five home runs and 16 RBIs. Last season, he played 50 games/all starts with the Royals and hit .299 with two home runs and 13 RBIs. For his career, he has 146 games/135 MLB under his belt and hit .275 with 10 home runs and 56 RBIs. St. Louis acquired the 30-year-old De La Paz on July 30, 2029, in a trade with the New York Yankees. Most effective against left-handed hitters, De La Paz fared pretty well over his two and a half seasons. He pitched in 129 games going 4-11 with 21 saves and a 3.84 ERA. But the 2032 season has been really rough as in 15 games, he has gone 0-2 with two saves and a 5.40. Worse, he has five in four home runs in 13.1 innings. Martinez is a 17-year-old outfielder from Curaco. He has played in eight rookie-league games in Jupiter this season and hit .130 with three RBIs. |

Cards news: May 19 -- Peter Fatse replaces Demetrius Beverly as hitting coach
The St. Louis Cardinals have announced the hiring of Peter Fatse as hitting coach replacing Demetrius Beverly.
Beverly, 57, had been with the Cardinals since the 2027 season and in 2030 and 2031 seen the team put together solid seasons at the plate hitting .253 (768 runs scored) and .260 (760 runs scored). But 2032 has been a major disappointment as the team has hit just .229 (last in NL) with 147 runs scored (last in NL) through their first 42 games Fatse, 44, spent the 2025 through 2030 seasons with the Boston Red Sox. The team never won the division but made the postseason every year but in 2029. |
