Dilson Herrera
Former Mets second baseman Dilson Herrera agreed to a deal with the first-year Atlantic League club, the Staten Island FerryHawks. A former top-100 prospect, Herrera signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates out of his native Colombia in 2010 and was later dealt to the Mets in 2013 as part of a deal that sent Marlon Byrd to the Pirates. He debuted in Queens the following year, as a 20-year-old, and appeared in 49 games with the team across the 2014-15 seasons. In 2016, he was sent to Cincinnati as part of a trade for Jay Bruce, and eventually reached the Majors with the Reds in 2018. He most recently appeared in the Big Leagues with the Baltimore Orioles in 2020.
In 105 career MLB games, Herrera owns a .199 batting average to go along with 11 home runs and 28 RBI. He’s primarily played second base, though he also has experience at both corner infield spots. - silive.com, April 2022 Redone per request

Darrell Jackson
“He’s the most involved person I know in Downey,” said Program Chair Jesse Vargas. Jessie was speaking of Darrell Jackson, once an intensely hot pitcher for the Minnesota Twins (20-27, 4.38 ERA, 97 ERA+). A graduate of high school in Watts, "Sports was my way out of the ghetto,” he has said. “Growing up to play baseball was my dream of living happily ever after.” Darrell's success on the mound and a high-life lifestyle led to crack highs, erratic behavior on the ball field, and a fast tumble back to the Streets of L A. Darrell attributes his life’s turn around to Christianity, which he found only after the death of his father, depression, and an attempt at suicide.
“Why am I here?” Darrell asked rhetorically. “How did I get here?” Each adversity taught him something new. I didn’t know how to pitch,” he said, “until I hurt my arm.” Hitting bottom he found God, “and He saved me,” Darrell said. “I’m not here for a pat on the back. It’s not what I get out of life. It’s what my life can do for others.” - Rotary Club of Downey, CA Redid the facegen. Sometimes he had the mustache, sometimes he didn't. The better pic had it, so I used it.

Doug DeCinces
Doug DeCinces spent the first part of his major-league career shaking off comparisons to a Baltimore Orioles legend. Then, before he could make his mark in Baltimore, he was traded to make room for another Oriole icon. DeCinces essentially bridged a path between two Hall of Fame infielders, Brooks Robinson and Cal Ripken Jr. Tension with Earl Weaver, a bad back, and Ripken's emergence led Baltimore to trade the vocal player representative to his native California after the 1981 strike season. “The trade was the best thing that ever happened for me,’ DeCinces said. “The change of scenery really did wonders for me.” It did wonders for the Angels as well. DeCinces began a six-year run with the Angels that out-produced his nine years with the Orioles. In fact, he turned his inaugural season with California into a career year.
Collusion stirred the air in Major League Baseball during the mid-1980s. During this time a suspicious number of free agents failed to receive competing offers to leave their clubs. Doug DeCinces was one of them. After the 1986 season, he was due to test free agency for the first time. Instead he had no choice but to return to the Angels for $850,000 guaranteed for 1987 and $850,000 nonguaranteed for 1988. “It was strictly a take-it-or-leave-it offer,” DeCinces said. “The Angels would not even talk to me about it.” By 1990 major league owners were found guilty of conspiring to depress the free agent market in the years 1985-1987. They would pay out $280 million in penalties to over 650 players. The players’ union eventually awarded DeCinces $3,709,504 from that settlement. On August 4, 2011, DeCinces, along with three others, was charged by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) with insider trading ahead of a company buyout. In a civil suit, the SEC alleged that DeCinces and his associates made more than $1.7 million in illegal profits when Abbott Laboratories Inc. announced its plan to purchase Advanced Medical Optics Inc. through a tender offer. Without admitting or denying the allegations, DeCinces agreed to pay $2.5 million to settle the SEC's charges. In November 2012, DeCinces received a criminal indictment on insider trading related to the same incident and was charged with securities fraud and money laundering. On May 12, 2017, after a nearly two-month trial, a federal court jury in Santa Ana, California, found him guilty on 13 felony counts. He was also called to testify in the trial of others implicated in the insider trading case. On August 12, 2019, DeCinces was sentenced to eight months of home detention and ordered to pay a $10,000 fine. - SABR & Wikipedia So, as a Red Sox fan who fell in love with baseball in the late 70's and early 80's, Doug was a mustachioed Baltimore Oriole. I think the clean-shaven Angels look is fine and he had great years in California but in my files, he gets the classic mustache I remember.

For LansdowneSt
Could you try your magic on Allen Benson when you'll have some free time? I can't get his beard to look good whatever picture I used to create his FG... the sides just don't show up. See what I mean...

Allen Benson
Allen “Bullet Ben” Benson was a former star with the House of David, a barnstorming team of amateurs based in Benton Harbor, Mich., who wore long hair and beards. Only two baseball players between 1910 and the early 1970s sported a full mustache or beard during the regular season. Bearded baseball players were such a spectacle at the time that, in 1934, Senators president Clark Griffith signed Benson in an effort to boost attendance.
Let's see how the Washington Post covered him: "Scribes and fans may laugh at the idea of a diamonder carrying around a mattress on his chin, especially during this hot weather, but Allen Benson, the newest Nat pitcher, who has been the butt of much kidding in this respect, did not cause any loud guffaws yesterday with his flinging when he worked against his mates in pregame practice." "[The pink-whiskered former House of David star, will fling his flowing beard over his left shoulder this afternoon and toss a few baseballs at the lowly White Sox. No protests have been made by the Sox yet, but it is expected that Manager Jimmy Dykes will ask that Benson be not allowed to use his whiskers for the hidden ball trick." "Elder Al Benson, the human mulberry bush, made his big league debut with Washington yesterday... Wrapped up in Al Crowder’s old No. 10 suit and plainly ill at ease as delegates of Union Barbers’ Local, No. 76, cast covetous eyes upon his crinkly beard, the old Sagebrush was off to a wobbly start." "Bearded Elder Allen Benson, the only player in the majors who cultivates on his face what grows wild on his chest, will do the flinging in one of the games, with Al (Tommy) Thomas probably drawing the mound assignment in the other." Elder Allen Benson, the only bewhiskered baseball pitcher in captivity, outside the House of David, from which he escaped, left Washington yesterday in charge of Joe Cambria, owner and president of the Albany Internationals. The memory of those flowing pink weeks on his chin, now so green here, may turn to sere yellow before the good elder returns–but return he will, he says, and without the hirsute chin adornment. “I believe I could have made the grade with the Nats but for these danged whiskers,” Benson said. “I want to cut ’em off right now, but Mr. Cambria says they make me a drawing card–a sorta circus attraction–and that I’ve gotta wear ’em for the rest of the season. But I’ll tell you one thing, they’re coming off just as soon as the season ends, and, when I report to Albany next spring, I’ll be looking like the rest of the gang.” All told, he went 0-1 with an ERA over 12 in his two MLB games. While I kinda love reading old newspaper accounts of ballgames, man, he put up with a lot of crap. I'd have loved it if the team had supported him instead of joining in on the teasing and gone all 2013 Red Sox in unity. How scandalous it would have been! Did my best with the beard, AESP. The sides are always light because in a perfect facegen world, the software is looking for matching perfect profile pictures to do those parts of the face. Shouldn't be too many more beards in the 1930s!

This is sure welcome after all those beards I had to work with doing the 19th century players...
They show fine enough for me... great write up as usual. thanks! His performance wasn't that much better in my 1934 redo for him than in real life...

Dennis Martínez
In 1976, Dennis Martínez became the first Nicaraguan to play in the big leagues – and he remains by far the most successful. Indeed, his 245 major-league wins stood for more than 20 years as the most by any Latino pitcher, two ahead of Juan Marichal. (Bartolo Colón finally broke that record in August 2018.) Martínez got more than half of those wins after overcoming an alcohol problem that nearly derailed his career. His single most outstanding performance came on July 28, 1991, when he became the 13th pitcher to throw a perfect game.
In 2004, Martínez became eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. He received 16 votes from the Baseball Writers Association of America. That level of support meant he was “one and done” – off the ballot in 2005. Five years later, baseball author Joe Posnanski wrote, “When you add it all up he has a very similar case to Jack Morris, who is gaining Hall of Fame momentum.”56 It remains to be seen if the Veterans Committee may eventually consider Martínez. In 2011, however, he became a member of the Latino Baseball Hall of Fame in La Romana, Dominican Republic. One may conjecture that without the lost years in the middle of his career, Dennis Martínez might be an even stronger candidate for Cooperstown. But the flip side of that argument is that his career only became what it did because of the resurrection. “I never did,” he said when asked in 2002 if he thought he would pitch for 23 years. “I think after recovery I had more of an effort to live life. And the competitor in me wanted to keep going. I did everything that God allowed me to do." - SABR luckymann, part of the issue was the way the mac image of Denny drew out the yellow and orange of the old fg in the CUF pack. Hopefully this one works better. I think it captures his complexion on a PC without overdoing the orange.

Gary Roenicke
When the Baltimore Orioles announced their 2015 Hall of Fame class, it seemed fitting that Gary Roenicke and John Lowenstein would be inducted together. The two previously shared left field duties for the Orioles in the late 1970s and early 1980s, not an ideal situation for Roenicke – a former first-round pick still in the prime of his career, but even he admitted, “we were winning back then and so it was hard to argue for more playing time.” - SABR
Steve Wulf talked about the famous platooning teammates in a 1982 article for Sports Illustrated: The Three Faces of Weaver are John Lowenstein, Benigno Ayala and Gary Roenicke, and as the Orioles' rotating leftfielder they had produced 24 homers and 69 RBIs at week's end. Earl Weaver decides which of their names to write on his lineup card depending on who's hot, who's not and who's pitching. Platooning is nothing new to baseball, but what Weaver has done with these three resembles what Mozart did for the flute. No matter where they're coming from—and Ayala and Lowenstein are living examples of the expression "out of left field"—they're heading for a phenomenal season. Through Sunday, Lowenstein was hitting .307 with 11 homers, one fewer than his career high, in only 137 at bats. Ayala, batting .304, had 13 RBIs on 13 hits. Roenicke, who has also played center, right and first, had eight of his 15 homers and 23 of his 41 RBIs while in leftfield. He was batting .259 overall and .255 as a leftfielder. The three have shared leftfield since 1979, but not with this kind of production. "They're a blooming phenomenon," says Weaver, who doesn't use the word blooming. Here's my go at him. The before is the one currently in the CUF pack. I don't think he was ever clean-shaven. I think it was just way over smoothed.

Bill Campbell
Saves became an official major-league statistic in 1969. By the mid-1970s, closers had become firmly entrenched on big-league rosters. Pitchers such as Rollie Fingers, Bruce Sutter, Sparky Lyle, and Rich “Goose” Gossage were helping to define the role, often pitching multiple innings at the end of games. In 1976, the antacid maker Rolaids, whose motto was “R-O-L-A-I-D-S Spells Relief,” created a new award to recognize the outstanding relief pitcher in each league. Because these relievers were also known as “firemen,” winners of the Rolaids award received a trophy with a fireman’s helmet. (The award is now called the Mariano Rivera Award in the American League and the Trevor Hoffman Award in the National League.)
The first winner of the AL Rolaids Relief Award was Minnesota Twins closer Bill Campbell. The following year, Campbell became the first back-to-back winner of the award while pitching for the Boston Red Sox. Although an arm injury prevented him from sustaining his career at a high level, for a few seasons in the mid-1970s Bill Campbell was one of the most reliable closers in baseball. Campbell then leveraged that success into becoming one of the first ballplayers to take advantage of free agency. On November 4, 1976, at New York City’s Plaza Hotel, major-league baseball held its first “re-entry draft.” Twenty-four players had played out their options that season and were declared free agents. That night, Campbell and his agent, Larue Harcourt, went to the bar at the Plaza Hotel. Oakland A’s owner Charlie Finley called the two over to his table. He offered Campbell a three-year $100,000 contract with a $100,000 signing bonus if he signed before he left the table. Campbell and Harcourt had already settled on a figure of a million-dollar contract. “Finley started laughing,” Campbell told reporter Leigh Montville. “He said: ‘A million dollars! You know what? Those dumb s.o.b.’s will give it to you.” Two days later, Campbell signed the first free-agent contract of the off-season with the Boston Red Sox. Unfortunately, much of the money would be lost as his agent invested it in shady business deals that failed and suspect tax shelters that had the IRS seeking back taxes. Here's my take on a redo of him as requested. As a Red Sox fan, I always liked Bill as he was the first closer that I remember as a kid.

LansdowneSt if you feel for a challenge I have something for you...
https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...ogerbu01.shtml I was unable to find another picture of him facing the camera than the one attached to my post and even if the BBRef picture is quite good this is the type I can't do nothing with... The FG in the pack is ridiculously bad and there is no way I'd keep that in my database. If you find the time to try something thanks! Edit: It looks like his Ancestry page countains some good pictures but I don't have an account there so all I see is the small preview... maybe that could help? https://www.ancestry.com/genealogy/r...gers-24-83f7by

Buck Rogers (1935)
COL. (RET) ORLIN W. ROGERS
BLAIRS, VA - Colonel (Ret) Orlin W. Rogers of 3145 Snakepath Road, Blairs, Virginia departed this life on February 20, 1999. Born in 1912, Mr. Rogers served 27 years in the military serving in both World War II and Korea. Colonel Rogers spent 18 years as head of the military department and baseball and rifle team coach at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia. Absent from the above obituary was that "Buck" / "Lefty" Rogers pitched two games for the Washington Senators in 1935 - the first on Sept. 15 and his final one on Sept. 24. In those two games, including one start, he finished with an 0-1 record in 10 innings pitched. He struck out seven batters and allowed eight earned runs. - historicbaseball.com Thanks, AESP. I had checked ancestry with my account and got the older pic of him in military dress as it was the best lit and straight on. Here's the best I could do with him. I actually used the younger pitcher pic to make it but consulted all others when working the sliders.

There are so many of those way too dark FGs in the database that are there probably since the first year FG were included in the game years ago... I even think that many of the 19th century players I did need color correction but it will be for later if I want to play a game before the release of OOTP 24 ![]()
