The ’76 batting champion wasn’t determined until the main contenders’ final at-bat in a season-ending series against Minnesota. Hal McRae, George Brett’s teammate, owned a .33269 average, compared to Brett’s .33229. In his last plate appearance, Brett hit a lazy fly to left fielder Steve Brye, who misplayed the ball into an inside-the-park-homer. McRae grounded out, which made Brett the batting champ -- and made McRae furious. McRae was gracious toward Brett but leveled charges of racism against Brye and Twins manager Gene Mauch, claiming that they conspired against him. - mlb.com

I had done him two weeks ago in preparation for my next supplement pack upload which will go up after the World Series. So easy enough to post in advance. Despite the requests all being mid-70's Twins, I used the Pirates pic of him. The one I had previously from the download of Fancy's CUF pack is one without a mustache.

Vic Albury spend four years as a pitcher with the Twins from 1973 to 1976 going 18-17 with a 4.11 ERA (93 ERA+), a 4.7 K/9 and a ... concerning... 5.3 BB/9. He was drafted the 9th round by the Indians out of Key West HS (then as a first baseman), served three years in the military, and then, to quote Baseball-Reference "Before 1969 Season: Sent from the Cleveland Indians to the San Diego Padres in an unknown transaction." By 1970, he was in the Twins system via the minor league draft. He was mostly a starter in 1974-75 but injuries relegated him to the bullpen by late '75 and '76.

Eric Soderholm sits in a chair and beholds his paradise.

In front of him is a pond, upon which two swans, Adam and Eve, are getting along swimmingly. A tree-covered path forms the perimeter of the pond, and if Soderholm wishes to, he can walk on it, listen to the ambient music being piped in and ponder the statues, photos and words of Gandhi, Jesus, Buddha, Lao Tzu, Mother Teresa, Confucius and the Virgin Mary that line the route. He wishes to often.

In this peaceful place, Soderholm is approximately a million miles from a couple of past lives — the first as a big-league baseball player, including a 2½-year stint with the White Sox, and the second as a big-time ticket broker. But those other lives helped him and his daughter build SoderWorld, the holistic healing center in Willowbrook where he now sits. Without the intensity of baseball and without the money-centeredness of brokering, there is no beautiful A-frame log building, no Himalayan Salt Cave, no massage therapy, no shamanic sound healing, no gong washes, no energy healing and no yoga classes. Without those other lives, which were an antithesis of who he is now, there is no new him.

Everything, in the end, fits together.

In baseball, one team’s treasure is often another team’s trash, and Dave Goltz is a perfect example of this mixed-up cliché. Goltz was a pretty good pitcher in the 1970s for Minnesota. He claimed a spot with the team as a 23 year old in 1972, pitching alongside Hall of Famer Bert Blyleven and near Hall of Famer Jim Kaat. Something must’ve rubbed off on Goltz, because after those guys left he became the best pitcher by far on some shaky Twins staffs. His best years were 1977, when he won 20 games to complement Rod Carew’s monster year at the plate, and 1978, when he went 15-10 with a shiny 2.49 ERA.

In 1980 the Minnesota native departed to sunny Southern California as the Dodgers signed him to a cool $3 million, six-year contract. He was one of the most notorious free agent busts of his time, going only 9-19 for some very good Dodger teams from 1980 to 1982. He did manage to pick up a World Series ring during that time, when he appeared in two games in relief during the 1981 World Series. He was released on April 27, 1982 and picked up by the California Angels a month later. He did much better for his new team, going 8-5, 4.08 with 3 saves as a swingman over the remainder of the 1982 season.

Point of trivia: Since the save became an official statistic, Goltz holds the record for the most runs in a saved game. On June 6, 1973, against the Cleveland Indians, he was charged with 8 runs in a three-inning save; he helped to turn a 9-1 lead into a 13-9 win. - puckettspond.com and bRef Bullpen wiki

The first (left-most) face was the original one in the CUF pack. It was updated last year (actually just smoothed out, same fg). I tried to redo him from scratch (mine on the right or bottom). Not a lot of great photos to work with but there was one straight-forward one of his younger self.

Not much to say about this guy... he pitched 4 inning with disastrous results for Washington in 1932, but he doesn't have a FG in our database.

Edit: Adjusted the FG colors, it's less greyish than what is on the image..

Sharp from his first pitch, Ervin Santana came full cycle against the Cleveland Indians. Santana threw the first solo no-hitter for the Angels in nearly 27 years and exacted some long overdue revenge, leading Los Angeles over the Indians, 3-1, on Wednesday in Cleveland. This was the first no-hitter at Progressive Field, a ballpark that opened as Jacobs Field in 1994. And it marked quite a bit of role reversal for the 28-year-old Santana. [He] made his big-league debut on this very same field on May 17, 2005, and the Indians gave him a rude welcome. The first four batters he faced in the majors teamed up to hit for the cycle — Grady Sizemore led off with a triple, Coco Crisp doubled, Travis Hafner singled and Ben Broussard homered.

Asked to recall that rough outing, Santana smiled and shrugged. “It’s part of life,” he said. “We’re here today, we don’t know tomorrow.” - New York Times, 2011

Current FG was done with a texture template so I redid him... I can't use the old version of FaceGen Modeller so I can't clean as much as I'd like to, but if LansdowneSt feels like it I'm sure he could do it.

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli appeared on the ‘Old Baseball Cards’ web series with Mike Oz of Yahoo! Sports to open baseball cards (that’s a thing that people like to watch on the internet these days, I’m told) Baldelli augmented the excitement by sharing memories from each of the cards that he opened. The first pull was Twins great Pedro Munoz, who Baldelli clearly had never heard of. It was a tough moment for die-hard Twins fans, to say the least.

If you’re reading this, I don’t need to tell you that Munoz was a big part of the terrible Twins teams of the mid-1990s, slashing .273/.315/.444 and hitting 67 home runs over parts of six seasons with the team as a part-time outfielder and designated hitter.

Munoz only appeared in 75 games in 1994 but hit .295/.348/.508 with 11 home runs. He followed that up with a 104-game campaign in 1995 that saw him put up a .301/.338/.489 line and knock 18 balls out of the park. Unfortunately, Munoz was constantly injured and only played one more year, which was his age-27 campaign with Oakland in 1996.

All that to say, you best know who Pedro Munoz is if you’re going to put on a Twins jersey 162 times this season, Mr. Baldelli. Get it together. - twinkietown.com
