Here's a post of the missing May 23rd card. Sorry to be disjointed.
Sunday, May 23 - Sunday Night Fights RESULTS JFW IBF Jose Sanabria (13) vs Jose Valbuena (5) (Sanabria UD 10: 99-95. A disgustingly dull second half with virtually no action, inexplicable given that Valbuena had been beaten soundly in the first half. He had a dominant round 4 and apparently felt that would be enough to win the fight. Kudos to Sanabria for a solid enough fight, but Valbuena really did nothing to prevent it. JMW WBC Carmelo Bossi (3) vs Javier Castillejo (6) (Draw: 95-95, 96-95 Bossi, 98-93 Castillejo. SNF Scorecard had Castillejo 96-95, so it's hard to call it a robbery. Castillejo controlled much of the first 6 rounds, and the judge who scored it even gave Bossi round 4, in which he was totally on the short end. Several rounds were close but it appeared Castillejo did more. Still, the two will fight again on the first weekend in August to try and determine who will get into the semifinal to face #2 seed Koichi Wojima.) JWW IBF Ubaldo Sacco (2) vs Rene Arredondo (10) (Draw: 95-95, 95-95, 96-94 Sacco. A very good fight, the result of which was debated hotly by those in attendance, a sign the outcome may, in fact, have been fair. Sacco decided not to slug with Arredondo, fighting as a boxer and trying to keep at a distance. He jabbed all day, and would argue after the fight he had landed significantly more blows (312-196) and was the aggressor in throwing more punches (753-632). But Arredondo's blows had more sting, and the SNF scorecard actually had Arredondo winning the bout 96-94. The pending rematch means #6-seed Randall Bailey gets to relax a while longer before his next match, against the winner.) JFW WBA Wilfredo Gomez (1) vs Napapol Kiatisakchok (9) (Gomez KO 1: What else is to say other than that result. Gomez blows him away, sending folks home early with a combination followed by a right cross, and will next face Loris Stecca.) GH Last edited by GForce; 06-20-2005 at 05:53 PM. |

Sunday, June 21 - Sunday Night Fights
WW IBF Simon Brown (4) vs Corey Spinks (5) (Spinks UD 10: 99-91, 99-91, 97-93. Conventional wisdom was that Brown's power would ultimately wear Spinks down. Spinks never gave him the chance, fighting a stick and move bout that frustrated Brown to no end. Brown forced him to engage a few times, but was never able to mount an extended assault to really hurt Spinks. Lucky him, he gets Tommy Hearns in the semifinal.) JLW WBA Acelino Freitas (3) vs Philip N'Dou (6) (Freitas KO 10: After a scintillating first two rounds, Freitas controls the rest of the bout, dropping the gutty N'Dou 3 times, the last for good 30 seconds into the final round. Freitas should pose a difficult challenge for Hector Camacho in the semifinal.) JFW IBF Jeff Fenech (1) vs Emmanuel Lucero (8) (Fenech UD 10: Dominating effort by Fenech, with 4 20-point rounds and a 32 point round without a knockdown. Lucero tastes the canvas in the 10th but gets up to finish. Fenech will take on Jose Sanabria in the semifinal.) BW WBC Carlos Zarate (1) vs Enrique Pinder (8) (Zarate KO 8: Pinder roughs Zarate up a few times, but in the 5th, Zarate pours it on and asserts his will on Pinder, who goes down twice in the 5th, once in the 7th and again for good in the 8th. Zarate will face Johnny Carter in the semifinal.) GH |

Friday, June 26 - Friday Night Fights RESULTS
FLY IBF Myung Wu Yuh (2) vs German Torres (10) (Yuh UD 10: 96-93, 96-93, 95-94. Yuh rebounds from hitting the deck in the first to dictate pace and control the action much of the rest of the bout. Torres had his moments, but Yuh earns the decision. He gets Hilario Zapata in the semifinal.) FLY IBF Rosendo Alvarez (4) vs Sot Chitalada (5) (Chitalada UD 10: 97-93 on all cards. Alvarez sets a furious pace, throwing 823 punches in the bout. Chitalada throws 630, but lands far more often (316 to 185.) This isn't lost on the judges, who watch Chitalada fight a brilliant tactical bout, and even stand in to exchange when it called for it. Many think Chitalada could gave #1 seed Michael Carbajal all he can handle in the semifinal.) BW WBC Junior Jones (3) vs Thanomchit Sukothia (6) (Jones UD 10: 96-95 on all 3 cards: Pace slows significantly in final 4 rounds, but for the first 6 this was an absolute war. 1 and 3 go to Sukothia, 2 and 4 to Jones, and the respective fighters thoroughly dominated the other in those rounds. Jones was trying to keep at a distance, but Sukothia was stalking him and Jones' defense lapsed. He was being sent backward and reeling by shot after shot as he tried to retreat. Amazingly, he kept his feet, and would turn around with counterpunching exhibitions in the rounds he won, catching every opening Sukothia left him. FNF scorecard had it the same as the judges. Great effort by Sukothia, but Jones advances to face the winner of Ruben Olivares/Richie Sandoval, slated for a rematch of their draw.) LHW WBA Victor Galindez (3) vs Roger Rouse (11) (Galindez KO 1: 31 seconds. Good night. Mr. Bob Foster, hope you were watching. They meet in the semifinal.) GH |

Saturday, June 27 - PAY PER VIEW RESULTS
HW WBC Jimmy Ellis (4) vs Corrie Sanders (12) (Sanders SD 10: 95-94, 95-94, 94-95. Even bout, but Sanders holds up surprisingly well in later rounds, aided by Ellis seeming to tire, making the last 3 rounds somewhat dull. Thought had been, if Ellis got Sanders late he'd be able to take him out. No such luck. Sanders can now sit back a while as he awaits the Frazier/Page rematch to see who he'll fight in the semifinal.) CW IBF Young Joe Louis (16) vs John Odhiambo (8) (Louis SD 10: 96-93, 96-95, 94-95. The only #16 seed to advance, Louis pulls out another one, dropping Odhiambo in the 4th and holding on as Odhiambo surged in the late rounds. Even fight that could have gone either way. Oddly, Louis' underdog status may have helped him in the scoring. He will face #4 seed Imamu Mayfield in the semifinal.) JBW WBA Khaosai Galaxy (1) vs Tae-Il Chang (9) (Galaxy TKO 8: Chang absorbs a beating here, as Galaxy's attack is relentless. Chang actually lands a better percentage (28.9% versus 23.9%), but Galaxy throws 105 punches per round to Chang's 44. Eventually, Chang just collapses under the pressure. Luis Alberto Perez is up next for Galaxy.) JLW IBF Julio Cesar Chavez (1) vs Sirimongkol Singmanasak (8) (Chavez KO 8: Singmanasak absorbs an ungodly amount of punishment in this bout after dominating Chavez in the opening round. He never hurt him again. He will await the rematch between Daniel Attah and Yodsanan Nanthachai to see his next opponent.) GH |

Sunday, June 28 - Sunday Night Fights RESULTS
BW IBF Tim Austin (3) vs Alberto Davila (6) (Davila MD 10: 95-93, 95-93, 94-94. Austin drops Davila in the first, again in the second, then goes into a shell before coming back in the 5th and pummeling Davila from pillar to post. Problem is, after that Austin did ZERO. He'll kick himself for a long time over this, because he totally gave the fight away. Davila won't apologize for it, though, and will next fight Masahiko Harada.) JWW WBA NIccolino Locche (3) vs Lennox Blackmoore (6) (Locche UD 10: 98-95, 98-94, 99-93. Locche in complete control as Blackmoore never really mounts any kind of offense. Locche defends well, and is far more accurate with his punches, jabbing Blackmoore at will and setting him up for combinations. Locche will fight Antonio Cervantes in the semifinal.) MW WBA Rodrigo Valdez (2) vs Howard Eastman (7) (Valdez UD 10: 97-94 all three cards: Valdez works Eastman to death here, as Eastman has success only rarely, early in the bout when he was able to pressure Valdez. But Valdez found he could work Eastman over from outside and avoid his pressure, and Eastman had no answer. Valdez next takes on Dick Tiger in the semifinal.) CW WBC Vasili Jirov (1) vs Dale Brown (8) (Jirov TKO 2: Brown is pummeled in the second, taking a savage uppercut that drops him. He gets to his feet but is thoroughly rattled. Jirov steps to Brown who looks out of it and, before Jirov can throw another blow, Abe Goldstein jumps in to halt the bout. Up next, Alexandre Gurov.) GH |

Will be taking a short break on cards (with the exception of Draw rematches) while I get some things in order.
-- I need to get the WBO caught up -- I need to figure out the schedule for the next 3 months (since now there should be non-tournament bouts as well). -- I will hopefully flesh out a couple of story lines now that we've advanced to the semifinals. I haven't done enough of this. I'll post all the semifinal matchups in the next few days so people can see how things currently look in a bit more organized format. GH |

A bunch more very interesting bouts & outcomes - Austin going down at BW! - I wonder how far Junior Jones will go at BW? (he is always one good shot away from being Ko'd it seems). So if he has to face Ruben Olivares I think the ride ends early in that fight!
I was wrong on the Spinks Vs Simon Brown - I thought Brown would handle Spinks boxing style eventually - Wear him down and take him out - Can't believe Bowe lost to Bruno! - But I could see Dokes beating Norton. Let me ask with Myung Wu Yuh (at FLY) - Fly Wt is your lowest division? - And do you have him ranked up from Strawweight? How do you have him adjusted? - He'd have a definite shot at winning at SW or perhaps even Jr Fly....but I think FLY Wt will be too much for him - The up coming Foreman Vs Holmes should be something else!! Both BW fights should be fun to watch as well - Heck there looks to be 7 or 8 fights that should be real classics from your last list - |

Do you have "adjust for weight classes" turned on or off in your tourney?
If you have it turned OFF then it wouldn't matter about putting the SW and JR FLY's into the FLY Wt division (I suppose). |

Just realized, the WBA had 1 second-round draw. The WBC had 8. That's silly.

I also to have to go through and do non-tournament bouts from the WBA, WBC and IBF for May and June. Basically, I have some housecleaning to do before the semifinals start. I'll be keeping you updated how it's going. Once the tourneys are done, doing the scheduling will be much easier and a lot less disjointed.

As I try to get caught up with the WBO and non-tournament scheduling, something funny.
Roger Mayweather will fight Jake Rodriguez a third time. If you recall, Mayweather was shortchanged both prior times, getting draws in fights most thought he had won. As a result, both were bounced from the tournament and Monroe Brooks got the only bye out of the 42 tournaments being conducted. Mayweather is determined to beat Rodriguez before moving on to anyone else. GH |
