Going 14-13 for May is a good sign of things to come.
I dont think that the Browns have woken up yet, but last June was when we went on a tear.
Lets see if we can have that kind of June 2 years in a row.

I love awards.
It always makes me feel like my team really wants to win ballgames.
So my players play a little harder to make it worthwhile.
This month it was Sherry Magee and Rube Waddell.
I took both of them out for drinks, and needless to say, they walked into the bar standing up, but they didnt leave the bar that way!

An interesting trade offer came my way.
Now i really dont like to trade away 1st round draft choices, but this trade made a some sense.
I needed some pop in RF since no one was doing it this year.
I felt Al Shaw might actually be a good fit.
I lost Larry Gardner, who was my 1st pick last year, but i thought the trade might work.

We went 16-9 in June which turned out to be a very good month.
I dont think that we will catch the Red Sox, but i will be happy just to make the playoffs!
The lineup being bolstered by the trade of Al Shaw seemed to do the right trick.

July 1908

Once in a while, the other teams in the league send me an interesting trade proposal.
Jack Hannifan was turning out to be a bit of a dud so i accepted my old team's proposal for Del Howard.
I drafted Howard when i was with the NYG and he turned out to be a diamond in the rough.
I put him in LF and i have been getting better production out of that position since.
This race for the playoffs in 1908 is going to be very tight.
A lackluster 12-15 July puts me in 3rd just barely holding on to that playoff spot.
The Boston Red Sox are running away with the league, and now even the Senators are going away.
These last two months will be very intriguing.

August 1908

When Cy Falkenburg went down, my pitching took a wallop!
We went 9-16 for August which put us in 6th place in the AL.
But this month is going to be close.
We are only 1.5 GB of 3rd place and we need to tighten it up and play straight!
I have talked to my team and told them lets push for a great September.
Will my team listen to me?
We will make our 2nd straight playoffs?
Is the Moon made out of Green Cheese?
(To Be Continued...)

September-October 1908

We just couldnt pull it off.
The Detroit Tigers got very hot and we stayed average for September and October going a combined 19-15.
We finished exactly at .500 and just missed the playoffs by 1 game.
The injuries this year really hurt with Falkenberg and Beck going down in the home stretch.
This team will get better and i will make some moves in offseason to get us back to the playoffs.
Playoffs and awards reports coming soon.

Playoffs 1908

The Chicago Cubs clinch the 1908 World Series beating the Detroit Tigers 4 games to 2.
They are the first National League team to win the title since the Boston Beaneaters in 1902.
They break a 5 year streak by the AL and it is the first championship for the Cubs.
Congrats to the North Side of Chicago.
The funny thing is...IRL...the Chicago Cubs DID win the 1908 World Series!
And they have been the loveable losers ever since.
Will they win another one?
Stay Tuned!!

1908 Off Season

The 1908 Draft was a little weak, but i took 3B Buck Herzog to give me more pop at that position.
You can never have too much bullpen so i grabbed Harry Suter and John Raleigh.
I usually do very well in drafts so i am certain i am going to get trade ideas from the rest of the league.

I went on a trade rampage too.
Jimmy Sheckard and Johnny Bates are two excellent LFs.
But, with Magee as my main LF, these two guys were not getting good playing time.
So i sent them for two pitchers.
Eddie Cicotte is a top of the line pitcher, and Orval Overall is a superstar at this time of baseball.
I wanted some more pitching, and that is what i got.

April 1909

I know its early, but i dont think i couldnt have gotten off to a better start for April.
However, Al Shaw and Erve Beck got injured.
But, if we can play this type of baseball until they return, who knows where we will end up?

In May we go 17-12, which is very nice.
What is not so nice, is that my players just cant stay healthy.
First, Buck Herzog, who was my #1 draft choice in the most recent draft, tears his labrum, and his career is over before it even got started.
IRL...he played 12 seasons.

Buck Herzog - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My whole team is a MASH unit.
Foster, Beck, Leach and Shaw are all out with injuries.
Lucky for the Browns, the pitching is keeping them ahead in the AL.
Cant wait for these guys to get back on the field.

Horrible month!
With a record of 9-16, we slipped all the way to 3rd in the league.
Although my injured players are back, they are not hitting at their level.
I did a lineup shake-up, but no trades as of yet.
Ill wait till the deadline and see if this team is still playoff bound.
Yuck...what a month.

July 1909

After starting off the 1909 season with a bang, the St. Louis Browns have now fallen with a thud!
11-16 goes July and we are now in 4th place in the AL.
1.5 GB of WAS, we are now out of the playoff bracket at this time.
The hitting fell apart mostly due to injuries, and the pitching is just not getting run support.
We have two months to try to turn this around and get back into the playoff chase.
We went 30-16 for the first two months, then we went 20-32 for the second two months.
I didnt pull the trigger on any trades at the deadline.

The Browns turn things around a little in August with a 14-12 record.
My lineup is healthy again but dont know for how long.
The Senators are 4 games ahead of us for 3rd place.
With one month to go, it will be a tough road to try and overtake them.
My rotation is doing their job, but the hitting has gone downhill since the early months of the season.
Can we get there in time?
Will my lineup finally learn how to hit once again?
Will this dog i know stop pooping in my yard?

September-October 1909

We started the 1909 season going 30-16 for the months of April and May.
Boy, did we fall hard!
Although we did finish the year with a winning record, we just didnt have enough to make the playoffs.
My starters were the best part of my team, but too many injuries to my hitters really did us in.
We finished in 4th place.
There are improvements that need to be made in the 3 years i have left with the St. Louis Browns before being forced to move on.
Ill take a good look at the 1909 Draft and see who i can pick up.
Playoff and Awards results coming soon!

Playoffs 1909

I do remember saying that when the Washington Senators drafted Ty Cobb, they would one day, be a very interesting team.
You cant get more interesting than winning the world series.
Congrats to the Senators, as they defeat the defending champion Chicago Cubs.
They do it in their first trip to the Fall Classic!
The AL wins its 7th championship out of the first 9!
