After one more game.....but Bendy is mowin' 'em down right now.....he's 13-1 over his last 14 starts......
I hope to get Abe some relief work in a blowout or two before he has to start a game. Problem is, our team rarely blows anyone out. Pitchers coming off serious injuries sometimes aren't worth a crap for a while....and sometimes they aren't worth a crap ever..... Editor's Note: Next season, the League will expand the schedule to 84 games and the second pitcher will have to get a lot more starts. Last edited by Questdog; 07-16-2014 at 08:52 AM. |

Monday, June 10, 1878, vs. Boston Red Caps (12-10 3rd in the Liberty League)
I decided to give Bobby Hubbard the day off and put Wash Horsfall back in right and move Stub Orlando to center. Bobby's bat has been even worse this year than last year when it as very disappointing. He's hitting around .250 without an extra-base hit. Moss is one of the guys he usually hits well, but he went O'fer on Saturday. Dave Taylor (and Abe Everette!) will be back next game and I think Bobby is going to find himself on a train to Rochester. If his fielding was up to his usual standards, I could live with a weak bat, but he is not getting to the balls he used to. And Stub Orlando looks like he can track down everything and anything within a five mile radius of the ball park. Charlie Moss, Bos. (37 R 12-9 2.58 0.7/2.7 BB/K) vs. John Bendickson, Troy (26 R 15-6 2.19 0.7/3.0 BB/K) Lost - 3 to 2 We cannot make more errors than the heavy-hitting Red Caps and expect to win. We made 6 of them and they made 3. We out-hit them 9 to 8. RF Wash Horsfall had 2 hits and an RBI. CF Stub Orlando had 2 hits and scored a run. For Boston, ss John Kron only had 1 hit, but knocked in all 3 of their runs. 2B Bill Thompson had a hit in his 25th straight game. Other Games: Cincinnati (7) at Washington (6) - Jim Postema (2-3) over Bones Lane (4-18). Lane only gave up 6 hits in 7 innings, but Cincinnati scored 7 times off him. Postema struck out 6. 2B George Brantner had 2 hits, scored a run and had an RBI, but made 2 errors. Brooklyn (5) at Providence (6) in 15 innings - Will Taylor (14-8) over Buck Richards (1-1) in relief of Pop Yurkovich. Both teams scored a run in the 12th. CF Lou Landaal had 3 hits with a triple, a walk, scored 3 runs, including the wining run in the 15th, and had an RBI. 2B John Meredith had 3 hits with a double in the bottom of the 15th to end the game. |

Thursday, June 13, 1878, vs. Boston Red Caps (13-10 3rd in the Liberty League)
P Abe Everette and OF Dave Taylor are both back from their injury timeouts. I sent Billy Jenkins and Bobby Hubbard to Rochester. Charlie Moss, Bos. (37 R 13-9 2.51 0.7/2.8 BB/K) vs. John Bendickson, Troy (26 R 15-7 2.18 0.7/3.0 BB/K) Won - 6 to 5 I let Abe Everette pitch the 9th inning when we were up 5 to 2 and he blew the lead, but he led off the bottom of the 9th by taking a walk and scored the winning run when Spider Coleman singled. Coleman had 3 hits with a double, stole a base, and had 2 RBIs. RF Dave Taylor had 2 hits and scored a run in his return, but made 2 errors. C Eb Burke had a double and scored. Other Games: Cincinnati (9) at Washington (4) - Jim Postema (3-3) over Bones Lane (4-19). Postema with a 3-hitter, walking 2. 2B George Brantner had 3 hits, scored a run and had 3 RBIs. SS Jim Ware had 3 hits with a double, a walk, scored twice and had an RBI. CF Henry Gunther had 4 hits with a triple, scored a run and knocked one in. Brooklyn (4) at Providence (6) - Will Taylor (15-8) over Pop Yurkovich (9-13). Taylor had a double and a walk and scored a run. 2B John Meredith had 2 hits with an RBI. 3B Sam Clark had 3 hits and scored a run. Cincinnati's 2B John Bohler hurt his shoulder and will miss a month. |

Saturday, June 15, 1878, vs. Washington Olympics (5-19 6th in the Liberty League)
P Abe Everette, ready or not, gets his first start of the year. We swept Washington at their place last time we met, but Manager George Dennis has decided to take to the box for this game. George Dennis, Wash. (33 R 1-0 2.08 2.9/5.0 BB/K) vs. Abe Everette, Troy (29 L 1-0 0.00 0.0/0.0 BB/K) Won - 6 to 5 Abe was a little ragged, but managed to get the job done. He had 2 hits with his bat and scored a run. RF Dave Taylor had 2 hits and a walk, scored a run and knocked one in. LF Spider Coleman cracked a rib making a diving catch and is going to miss the next month. Other Games: Cincinnati (3) at Brooklyn (5) - Buck Richards (2-1) over Roger Lake (1-4). LF Willie Schommer had 2 hits, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. CF John Froom had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBIs. RF Deacon Wilson had 2 hits and scored a run. Providence (2) at Boston (4) - Charlie Moss (14-9) over Willis Kornfield (1-1). Each pitcher only allowed 7 hits. Providence won another game with their superior defense, making only 2 errors to Boston's 8, except Boston won! How's that?! Well, Providence made both of their errors and gave up 4 of the hits in the 8th inning when Boston scored 4 times. 2B Bill Thompson had 2 hits and scored a run to extend his hitting streak to 27 games. LF Pete Bucolo had 2 hits, scored a run and had an RBI. |

Wednesday, June 19, 1878, vs. Washington Olympics (5-20 6th in the Liberty League)
I put LF Spider Coleman on the Disabled List and called up Cupid Doyle from Rochester. I can use him as a late-inning replacement for Poppy and give him some starts against left-handers. Bones Lane, Wash. (35 L 4-19 3.41 1.4/2.1 BB/K) vs. John Bendickson, Troy (26 R 15-7 2.18 0.7/3.0 BB/K) Lost - 4 to 2 When you make more errors than hits, things don't usually turn out very well. We only had 6 hits off the worst pitcher with a job in the League and made 7 errors. POppy and SS Sam Cowan each had 2 hits. 1b Lou Knight and CF George Kennedy each had 3 hits for Washington, matching our whole team total. Other Games: Cincinnati (3) at Brooklyn (7) - Pop Yurkovich (10-13) over Jim Postema (3-4). Yurkovich held the Reds to 6 hits. LF Willie Schommer had 2 hits, stole a base, scored twice and had an RBI. CF John Froom had 4 hits, stole a base, scored a run and had an RBI. 1B Tom Stanley had 2 hits with a double and scored a run. Providence (10) at Boston (6) in 10 innings - Will Taylor (16-8) over Charlie Moss (14-10). Not a pitcher's day: 29 hits by the 2 teams. LF Silver Borresen had 3 hits, stole 2 bases, scored 2 runs and drove one in. 3B Sam Clark had 3 hits with a triple, stole a base, scored 3 times and had an RBI. 2B Bill Thompson runs his streak to 28 games. |

Saturday, June 22, 1878, vs. Washington Olympics (6-20 6th in the Liberty League)
Bones Lane, Wash. (35 L 5-19 3.25 1.5/2.1 BB/K) vs. John Bendickson, Troy (26 R 15-8 2.09 0.7/3.0 BB/K) Won - 3 to 2 in 11 innings Washington did not get their first hit until the 6th inning, but of course, we also made an error and gave them a run and they were leading, 1 to 0, because we couldn't do squat against Lane for the second game in a row. I am so sick of this offense! We are dead last in scoring runs. I had 4 hits with a double and a triple and stole a base, but all I got to show for it was one run scored and one RBI. C Eb Burke had 2 hits and an RBI. Bendickson only game them 7 hits in 11 innings and struck out 6. He got former MVP Al Cannon 3 times. Other Games: Cincinnati (5) at Brooklyn (11) - Pop Yurkovich (11-13) over Jim Postema (3-5). LF Willie Schommer had 2 hits, stole a base, scored twice and had 2 RBIs. 2b Kid Angell had 3 hit. a run and an RBI. Providence (13) at Boston (3) - Will Taylor (17-8) over Charlie Moss (14-11). Taylor had a double and a walk, scored twice and had an RBI. LF Silver Borresen had 4 hits, scored twice and had an RBI. CF Lou Landaal had 3 hits, a walk, scored twice and had an RBI. Wednesday, June 26, 1878, at Brooklyn Atlantics (13-14 4th in the Liberty League)
We beat Brooklyn 2 of 3 at our place the first time we met. Bobby Hubbard had 9 hits in 4 games at Rochester and since I am sick of Wash Horsfall in right field, I called Booby back and sent Yale Molloy down to Rochester. John Bendickson, Troy (26 R 16-8 2.03 0.7/3.1 BB/K) vs. Pop Yurkovich, Bkln. (26 R 11-13 2.22 0.9/2.9 BB/K) Once again, John Bendickson was just cruising through a team's lineup, allowing Brooklyn only 2 hits through 8 innings. However, we were only up 2 to 0, because we could only muster 5 hits against Yurkovich. So, we got to the bottom of the 9th and the sequence goes: PH, Willie English - Double to right center LF, Willie Schommer - Single to left, runner holds at third 2B, Kid Angell (career .175 vs. Bendy) - Home Run to left, game over. Lost - 3 to 2 We have gone 16-4 in our last 20 games, but I feel like we are the crappiest team that ever stepped on a baseball diamond. We did manage to make it through the game without committing an error, though. Other Games: Providence (1) at Cincinnati (6) - Fred Cline (9-6) over Will Taylor (17-9). Cline held the Grays to 6 hits. SS Jim Ware had 2 hits with a triple and an RBI. Boston (4) at Washington (5) - Bones Lane (6-19) over Charlie Moss (14-12). Lane held Boston to 7 hits. He led off the bottom of the 9th with a double and scored the winning run on LF John Rodgers' double. SS Joe O'Neill had 3 hits, including an infield single between those 2 9th inning doubles. 2B Bub Crawford had a double and a triple, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. |

Saturday, June 29, 1878, at Brooklyn Atlantics (14-14 tied for 3rd in the Liberty League)
If we don't score at least 5 runs this game, big changes are gonna happen. John Bendickson, Troy (26 R 16-9 2.08 0.7/3.1 BB/K) vs. Pop Yurkovich, Bkln. (26 R 12-13 2.17 0.9/2.8 BB/K) Lost - 6 to 4 10 errors and Abe Everette not being up to the task cost us this one. Down 4 to 1 in the top of the 7th, I pinch hit for Bendy with the bases loaded and we ended up tying the game up, but Everette gave them 2 runs right back in the bottom of the inning. Other Games: Providence (2) at Cincinnati (5) - Fred Cline (10-6) over Will Taylor (17-10). Cline held the Grays to 7 hits. LF Henry Gunther had 2 hits with a double and an RBI. 3B Fred Young hit a 2-tin home run, his 2nd of the season. Boston (6) at Washington (7) - Bones Lane (7-19) over Charlie Moss (14-13). Washington scored 4 times in the bottom of the 9th to win. Moss and Boston did not retire a batter in the 9th. C Al Cannon had 4 hits, scores 2 runs and knocked in 2, including the final run to win it. Down at Rochester, CF Yale Molloy ruptured a tendon in his finger and will miss the rest of the season. |

Thursday, July 4, 1878, at Brooklyn Atlantics (15-14 3rd in the Liberty League)
Big Changes! Well, one anyway.....I broke down and called up C Henry Newman and sent Wilson Schroeder to Rochester. Our offense needs a spark. John Bendickson, Troy (26 R 16-9 2.10 0.6/3.0 BB/K) vs. Pop Yurkovich, Bkln. (26 R 13-13 2.13 0.9/2.9 BB/K) Won - 4 to 0 Bendy with our first shutout of the season! They came close to scoring once when they had a runner on third with only 1 out. They even got an infield hit, but the runner held and we wiggled out of it. 0 errors 2 games ago, 10 last time and 1 today. The only error was by C Harry Newman, who dropped a foul popup. He had 1 hit in his debut. LF Dave Taylor had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. 1B Sol Popko had 2 hits with a double. Please! Let him be coming out of his spiral. It's as simple as this: if he starts hitting like the days of old, we win the Pennant going away. If he continues to hit .200, we will have to fight tooth and nail to win every game and I'll be driven to an early grave. Other Games: Providence (3) at Cincinnati (2) - Will Taylor (18-10) over Fred Cline (10-7). Cline held Providence to 5 hits. And Cincinnati only made 2 errors to the Grays' 3. C Billy Sullivan hit 2 doubles and scored a run. Boston (6) at Washington (3) - Charlie Moss (15-13) over Bones Lane (7-20). Each team only had 8 hits, but the Olympics made 11 errors ro Boston's 3. 2B Billy Little had 2 hits, stole a base, and knocked in 2 runs. 1B Frank Helms had 3 hits, stole a base and had an RBI. |

Saturday, July 6, 1878, at Providence Grays (19-11 tied for 1st in the Liberty League)
Big first place showdown! There will not be a tie for first place after today. John Bendickson, Troy (26 R 17-9 2.02 0.7/2.9 BB/K) vs. Will Taylor, Prov. (31 L 18-10 1.85 0.7/3.4 BB/K) Lost - 9 to 0 This one was humiliating. Taylor held us to 6 hits. C Billy Sullivan and SS Jimmy Mark each had 3 hits with a double, scored a run and had an RBI. The game was scoreless after 5 innings and then we made 5 errors in the 6th and that was all she wrote. 0 errors 3 games ago, 10 2 games ago, 1 last game and 9 today. That's not what you call consistency. Providence made 1 error. Other Games: Cincinnati (1) at Boston (0) - Jim Postema (4-5) over Charlie Moss (15-14). Postema held Boston to 4 hits and Moss held Cincinnati to 6. Each team only made 1 error. The only run of the game was scored by Jim Postema. Brooklyn (8) at Washington (7) - Pop Yurkovich (14-14) over Bones Lane (7-21). Yurkovich had 2 hits and scored twice. LF Jim Leonardi had 3 hits and scored a run. SS Dan Mitchell had 2 hits, a walk and scored 3 runs. CF John Froom had 4 hits, stole a base, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. He was also caught stealing once and made 2 errors. Monday, July 8, 1878, at Providence Grays (20-11 1st in the Liberty League)
Abe Everette, Troy (29 L 2-1 2.08 0.7/3.5 BB/K) vs. Willis Kornfield, Prov. (25 R 1-1 2.11 1.3/3.8 BB/K) Won - 6 to 3 Abe held them to 7 hits and we made 2 errors, both by Sam Cowan at shortstop. Which means we will make 11 next game. LF Dave Taylor had 2 hits, a walk and scored 2 runs. C Harry Newman had 3 hits witha double Other Games: Cincinnati (2) at Boston (11) - Charlie Moss (16-14) over Jim Postema (4-6). Moss had 2 hits, scored twice and knocked in 2 runs. 2B Bill Thompson had 3 hits with a double, stole a base, scored 3 runs and had an RBI. His hitting streak is now at 30 games. The record is 33, set by Lou Landaal in 1876 while with the Philadelphia Centennials. SS John Kron had 3 hits with a double and an RBI. RF Pete Green had 3 hits, a walk, stole 2 bases and scored 3 runs. Brooklyn (4) at Washington (3) - Ted Ryther (1-0) over George Dennis (1-3). Ryther, in his Liberty League debut, gave up 9 hits, walked 2 and struck out 5. Manager/C Mike Tonnies had 2 hits and scored a run. RF Guy Monaghan had 2 hits, stole a base and had an RBI. |

Thursday, July 11, 1878, at Providence Grays (20-12 tied for 1st in the Liberty League)
Once again we battle to break the tie for first. There is nothing wrong with Will Taylor; Manager Ed Parton has just decided to go with Kornfield for some reason. John Bendickson, Troy (26 R 17-10 2.00 0.7/2.8 BB/K) vs. Willis Kornfield, Prov. (25 R 1-2 1.78 1.2/3.3 BB/K) Won - 5 to 0 6 hits allowed by Bendickson in his second shutout in his last 3 starts. We only got 8 hits, 3 of them by C Henry Newman, who is now 7 for 12 in his brief time with the Haymakers. We only made one error, that by CF Stub Orlando, who has also gone cold with the bat (2 for his last 19). Other Games: Cincinnati (6) at Boston (7) in 11 innings - Charlie Moss (17-14) over Jim Postema (4-7). Cincinnati out-hit Boston, 19 to 12. The error tally was 5 to 2. C Kip Kraft had 2 hits with a double and scored 2 runs. RF Pete Green had 3 hits and scored a run. Can he keep this up for the rest of the season and be our first .400 hitter? This was his 6th multi-hit game in the last 7. He had an earlier streak of 7 straight multi-hit games. For Cincinnati, RF Willie Rudd had 5 hits with a double and scored 4 runs. Brooklyn (7) at Washington (2) - Pop Yurkovich (15-14) over Bones Lane (7-22). Yurkovich allowed 7 hits, walked 2 and struck out 5. LF Jim Leonardi had 3 hits with a double, scored a run and had an RBI. SS Dan Mitchell had 3 hits with a triple, scored a run, had 2 RBIs and made 2 errors. |

Saturday, July 13, 1878, vs. Cincinnati Reds (15-18 5th in the Liberty League)
We are 4-2 against Cincinnati so far. We swept them at their place last time we met. LF Spider Coleman is back from his injury; we sent Stub Orlando back for more seasoning at Rochester. Fred Cline, Cin. (36 R 10-7 2.38 0.9/2.0 BB/K) vs. John Bendickson, Troy (26 R 18-10 1.94 0.6/2.8 BB/K) Won - 5 to 3 6 hits allowed by Bendickson. He walked 1 and struck out 5. We only got 7 hits. 2 each by LF Spider Coleman and C Henry Newman. Each had an RBI, but Newman also scored twice and threw out the only fella that tried to steal on him. We only made 2 errors, one by Bendy and one by SS Sam Cowan. CF Washington Macho hit a 2-run inside-the-park home run for Cincinnati. Other Games: Boston (7) at Brooklyn (1) - Charlie Moss (18-14) over Pop Yurkovich (15-15). Moss held the Atlantics to 6 hits and struck out 3. SS John Kron had 3 hits with a triple, a walk and scored twice. RF Pete Green had 4 hits, stole a base, was caught once, scored 3 times and knocked in 2. That gives him 10 hits in his last 3 games. His season's batting average is now at .435. 1B Frank Helms had 3 hits with a triple, scored a run and knocked in 2. 2B Bill Thompson had a hit to extend his streak to 32 games. He can tie the record next time out. Washington (1) at Providence (5) - Will Taylor (20-10) over Bones Lane (7-23). Taylor only allowed 5 hits and struck out 7. He also had 3 hits at the plate. CF Dick Bailey only had 1 hit, but walked twice, stole a base and scored 3 runs. Bones Lane had 2 of Washington's 5 knocks. |

Tuesday, July 16, 1878, vs. Cincinnati Reds (15-19 5th in the Liberty League)
Jim Postema is the only Dutchman playing in the Liberty League. Providence has a Dutch pitcher under contract at Buffalo of the International Association: 32-year-old George Hoekstra. He is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 13.1 innings of relief. Jim Postema, Cin. (28 R 4-7 3.10 1.1/3.3 BB/K) vs. John Bendickson, Troy (26 R 19-10 1.94 0.7/2.9 BB/K) Lost - 4 to 2 5 hits allowed by Bendickson. He walked 1 and struck out 6. We made 4 errors, 3 of them in the first 2 innings, when Cincinnati had 2 of their hits to score all of their 4 runs. We only had 8 hits. 3 of them by SS Sam Cowan, who scored both of our runs. C Henry Newman had 2 more hits, but had a fairly rough day behind the plate with an error, a passed ball and a stolen base allowed. Other Games: Boston (7) at Brooklyn (9) - Pop Yurkovich (16-15) over Charlie Moss (18-15). Each team made 5 errors, but Brooklyn out-hit Boston, 17 to 9. 3B Kid Angell had 3 hits, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. CF John Froom had 4 hits with a double and a triple, stole a base, scored 3 times and had an RBI. Manager/C Mike Tonnies had 2 hits hand 3 RBIs. Ex-Haymaker 1B Tom Stanley had 3 hits, scored a run and had an RBI. For Boston, RF Pete Green had 2 hits to extend his multi-hit game streak to 4 and make it 8 times in the last 9 game. 2B Bill Thompson was hitless, ending his consecutive game hitting streak at 32, 1 shy of the record by Lou Landaal. CF Deacon Wilson was injured for Brooklyn. He tore a ligament in his knee and could be out for about a year. Washington (0) at Providence (2) - Will Taylor (21-10) over Bones Lane (7-24). Taylor only allowed 3 hits and struck out 5. RF Lou Landaal and Manager/1B Ed Parton each had 2 hits. Last edited by Questdog; 07-17-2014 at 09:13 PM. |

Monday, July 22, 1878, at Boston Red Caps (19-17 tied for 3rd in the Liberty League)
We are 3-3 against Boston so far. We beat them 2 of 3 last time we met at our place. John Bendickson, Troy (26 R 19-12 1.98 0.7/3.0 BB/K) vs. Charlie Moss, Bos. (37 R 19-15 2.42 0.6/2.5 BB/K) Lost - 5 to 4 Bendickson had a another sub-par game. He gave up 11 hits and walked 3! Our offense is just horrible. 7 hits. Why are the players that have been do good in the past absolutely horrible now? I mean I can see dropping off a little, but this is ridiculous. Me and Poppy were the best hitters on the team last year and this year we are the worst. Last year we batted .316 combined. This year, almost two-thirds of the way through, we are batting .221. Last year we had 29 extra-base hits between us. This year we are on pace to get 18. Last year as a team, we finished 3rd in scoring, 24 runs fewer than St. Louis. This year we are only out-scoring Washington and are on pace to finish 84 runs behind Boston. We average 5.8 runs a game last year and are only scoring 4.2 this season. Bill Rush had 3 of our 7 hits today. He stole a base and scored a run. C Harry Newman had a hit and 2 RBIs, but also committed 3 straight passed balls to let a guy score all the way from first without anyone having to do anything. And Bobby Hubbard messed up his knee today and is going to miss a month. I called Stub Orlando back from Rochester. He can field, but he won't help our offense any of he keeps hitting .210. If 1B Shadow Kielbasa was hitting, I'd call him up, but he's only batting .248 at Rochester. RF Jimmy Gerber, my other hope for a strong bat, is batting .242. Other Games: Providence (3) at Brooklyn (5) - Pop Yurkovich (17-16) over Will Taylor (22-11). LF Jim Leonardi had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBIs. 1B Rube Ford had 3 hits, scored twice and had an RBI. 2B Jim Bohler had 2 hits and scored a run. Washington (2) at Cincinnati (4) - Jim Postema (7-7) over Bones Lane (7-26). I don't know how Lane does not keep from shooting himself. Or his teammates. Cincinnati only got 6 hits off him today, but that was not good enough to win. SS Jim Ware had 2 hits with a double and an RBI. |

Thursday, July 25, 1878, at Boston Red Caps (20-17 tied for 3rd in the Liberty League)
John Bendickson, Troy (26 R 19-13 2.08 0.8/3.0 BB/K) vs. Charlie Moss, Bos. (37 R 20-15 2.42 0.6/2.5 BB/K) Lost - 10 to 9 in 11 innings We were up 9 to 3 going in to the bottom of the 7th when I put in the defensive specialists. Yeah, right..... 3rd bad game in a row for Bendy, but Abe Everette was the one that lost it in extra-innings. I guess it was only a matter of time before the baseball gods tired of only messing with our hitters..... Sad thing is that I had my best game of the year at the plate with 2 doubles and a triple, but I only got 2 runs and 1 RBI out if it. 1B Fred Helms and SS John Kron of Boston each only had 2 hits but each got 4 RBIs out of theirs. It's just not fair. Other Games: Providence (0) at Brooklyn (2) - Pop Yurkovich (18-16) over Will Taylor (22-12). Yurkovich gave the Grays only 5 hits and had 2 for himself with his bat. Manager/C Mike Tonnies strained a rib cage muscle in a collision at home plate and will miss a month. Washington (0) at Cincinnati (7) - Jim Postema (8-7) over Bones Lane (7-27). Postema with a 4-hitter, striking out 6. C Jake Houghton had 2 hits with a double, scored twice and had 3 RBIs. |

Saturday, July 27, 1878, at Boston Red Caps (21-17 tied for 3rd in the Liberty League)
Abe Everette, Troy (29 L 3-2 2.19 0.7/2.6 BB/K) vs. Charlie Moss, Bos. (37 R 20-15 2.41 0.6/2.5 BB/K) Won - 5 to 4 We were down 4 to 2 in the top of the 9th with 2 outs and Poppy, of all people, came through with a big hit to tie the game. He had 2 hits with a double, scored a run and had 3 RBIs. I had 2 hits, scored twice and knocked one in. C Henry Newman had 2 hits with a triple and scored twice. Everette allowed 10 hits and was knocked around pretty hard in the early going, but settled down over the final 3 frames. No plans on him taking Bendy's job, yet though. Other Games: Providence (5) at Brooklyn (0) - Will Taylor (23-12) over Pop Yurkovich (18-17). Two teams traded shutouts. Providence did not commit an error. Taylor allowed 8 hits, walked 2 and struck out 1. CF Lou Landaal had 2 hits, stole a base and scored a run. SS Jimmy Mark had 2 hits, scored a run and had an RBI. Washington (5) at Cincinnati (3) - George Dennis (2-3) over Fred Cline (10-9). Washington ended a 9 game losing streak. Dennis allowed only 8 hits, but walked 3 and struck out 1. 2B Bub Crawford had 2 hits with a double, a walk, scored a run and knocked one in. LF John Rodgers had 2 hits, stole 2 bases and scored a run. |
