1926 World Series
![]() The top two pitchers for the Cubs, Jose Mendez, and Dutch Leonard each go 0-2, while the Cubs win the games they don't start. |

![]() WHAT....WOW... Phillies pitcher Carl Adams wins the NL Pitcher of the Year award. Maybe I should lay off them, because a 35 year old who hadn't had a ERA under 5 during his 6 year stay in Philadelphia definitely isn't a fluke. |

In picking the Cubs to finish last, the AI must not have anticipated the kind of rookie season that Thomas would turn in.
Better luck next time, Cubbies! |

1926-27 Offseason News and Notes
It's another fairly quiet offseason. Stuff is happening, but I'm not so much into reporting the little stuff. I like newsmakers, and that just isn't really happening right now. Chuck Klein is the newest member of the Boston Red Sox. He was selected first overall in the 1926 draft. ![]() ![]() The Hall of fame added a new face this summer. ![]() ![]() |

1927 Regular Season
Mule Suttles is having a tough time staying healthy. As spring training was ending, he suffered a back injury, which kept him out for 6 weeks. Once returning, Suttles played 5 games before spraining his ankle, and is out for another 2 weeks. He hit .409 in those 5 games though! ![]() Mule Suttles Heinie Berger, 45 year old pitching with the Pirates just won the 300th game. That’s a great accomplishment. Usually, 300 wins will get you a 1 way ticket to the hall of fame. Mr. Berger though, has lost 320 games. That is tied for the 2nd most ever, and 20 more losses then wins. I want my HOF to have only the best. 320 losses won’t do it….unless you got 400 wins, and I don’t think Berger will get there. ![]() Heinie Berger In mid September, Babe Ruth slugged his 300th career home run. He’s obviously the first player to accomplish this feat. Nobody else has hit 200, though 5 or 6 will get there in the next few seasons. Babe is 32 years old. In real life, he had 416 after 1927. So, while it would go against conventional wisdom that he approaches 714, he still has a chance to get 500. Maybe even 600 if things go well. On October 1st, the Brooklyn Robins are in first place. They lead the Phillies by just 1 game. Ya, I know, I’m shocked too. They still suck at pitching, but aren’t as terrible as the past. Each team has two games remaining. Will this be the year Brooklyn finally goes to the World Series!?... Brooklyn loses to the Giants 6-4, while the Phillies, without Mule Suttles, whose on the DL for the 3rd time this season, beat the Braves 3-2 in 10 innings, with Lou Gehrig playing hero. The NL pennant comes down to the final day of the season. The Phillies lose 10-6 to the Giants. That means a Brooklyn win sends them into the World Series to take on the cross town rival New York Yankees. The Boston Braves commit 4 errors, but amazingly, Brooklyn can’t take advantage and lose 7-3. A 1 game playoff will be needed. ![]() The Phillies will start Ray Pierce. He’s pitched 9.1 innings this season, allowing 4 runs. Are these guys serious? I mean I’m sure they will win, they are playing Brooklyn, but this guy is the best option? He’s 30, and has a MLB career ERA of 6.04 in 12 games. Karl Adams, last season’s pitcher of the year is 82% rested. Bill Bayne, 13 wins this year, is 100% and they go with this Pierce guy. Like I said, they’re gonna win no matter what, but Phillies manager Dave Fleming needs to be fired(I turned coaching on, so he can be fired now.) Brooklyn will throw Allen Russell. He’s a decent middle of the rotation type option. A career 3.93 ERA. The Robins host this 1 game playoff for the 2nd straight season. Can they finally make the World Series? |

1927 Regular Season...Part 2
No, ofcourse not. The Baseball gods can be cruel and hold grudges for generations. For whatever reason, in my game, they have picked Brooklyn as their whipping boy. The Phillies score 10 runs in the 4th and 5th innings, and cruise to a easy 11-5 victory. 27 years and Brooklyn still has not played in a World Series. ![]() ![]() I was really hoping for the Giants to win the Pennant. I really like cross city rivals playing in the World Series. ![]() Bill Foster wins the AL pitching Triple Crown. He's pretty good. Boston’s Chuck Klein becomes the 2nd hitter to win the Triple Crown! ![]() Satchel Paige just dominated hitters, striking out almost 80 more batters then anyone else! |

1927 World Series
Phillies number 1 pitcher, Karl Adams, beats the Yankees, and the AL’s number 1, Bill Foster twice, but it’s still not enough, as the Yankees sweep the other 4 games in the series to take it in 6. Lou Gehrig ended up having a great post season. He dominated Yankees pitching, but Mule Suttles, who I thought would be ready to play, did not end up making an appearance. ![]() |

![]() Chuck Klein wins the Triple Crown, the Rookie of the Year and the MVP in the same season. That's pretty good. Erv Kantlehner, actually wins a Pitcher of the Year awards. Years after he stopped being proclaimed baseball's best pitcher. |

1927-28 Offseason News and Notes
First pick in the draft is Ed Morgan. I’m not familiar with Ed Morgan. He doesn’t have any real life stats listed. Looked him up though, and he had a short career. So we'll see how he does with a 2nd chance. ![]() ![]() Very very slow offseason. No Hall of fFame inductions, no one noteworthy really retired, and there weren’t any trades worth mentioning. So, here are the new logos and uniforms teams are using this season, and we are on to baseball! |

1928 Season Preview
![]() ![]() Top Player ![]() Mule has developed a little bit of a injury problem. He obviously is already one of the greats, but health will go a long way in whether he'll be apart of the history books. Top Pitcher ![]() Paige has dominated hitters, leading the majors in strikeouts by a large margin these two seasons, but, when contact is made, it's a different story, and what's kept him from being truly great. His career BABIP is .326. |

Ed Morgan is OOTPs dream, a player who amassed a huge season in on eof the few years he played, thus he is over rated by the system.
His great year was 1930, the year of the Lively ball He was a good hit, no field 1B who was forced into an OF role and made the Indians, only because of Tris Speaker's hasty departure (because of the gambling scandal between he and Cobb) His downfall came after that year and the Indians did not want to give him a pay increase. What is unheard of now, but not back then, was his inclination to give up baseball and go into business, as he could make much more money. The final straw was Walter Johnson becoming manager and he did not like Morgan's lack of defensive awareness BTW what happened to Jimmie Foxx? Last edited by Carlton; 03-25-2014 at 08:02 AM. |

I'll talk a bit about Jimmie Foxx in the offseason, but he did make his debut with the Phillies this season. |
