(2nd Defense)

While De Mori may look like a soft touch on paper, he's unbeaten in 10 fights dating back to 1910 and has been clamoring for a big fight. Now he finds himself in the biggest possible fight in front of a capacity Australian crowd.

After Perez controlled the opening round with his right jab, they fought evenly in round two and then De Mori rocked the champion with two right hands during a big third round. With the crowd rocking, Mark went for it in the fourth and he walked into a pinpoint hook from the champion and Perez unloaded with both hands while De Mori covered along the ropes.

In round six, the challenger struck again with his right hand and Perez ate two more along the ropes in the final twenty seconds. They fought evenly until round nine when Mark stunned him again with his right hand and a follow up barrage left the champion with a mouse under his right eye.

The eleventh round was the best of the fight, with both men trading in the center of the ring for nearly the full three minutes(16-16). That took a lot out of the challenger and Perez fired off two clean 3 punch combinations to win the final round. After one judge saw it for Perez 115-113, the other two overruled it at 114-114 and we were left with a draw.

(6th Defense)

Haye's speed was way too much for his much larger rival and he dropped the challenger late in round four with a hook before dropping Alexander twice in round five, the second time for the count from a thunderous right hand.


(IBO) Tony Thompson 26-0-1 (16) vs JD Chapman 27-4 (20)
(4th Defense)

Chapman hurt the champion in round two with a right hand and he outfought Tony in the third with a furious body assault. Thompson began to pick his shots and he busted open Chapman's right eye with an uppercut in the sixth and floored him with a cross in the seventh before cruising down the stretch for a UD. 117-111 x3


Chris Arreola 32-4-1 (28) vs Alexander Povetkin 41-7-1 (26)

Povetkin clipped Chris with several hard right hands in the opening round that had his left eye swelling. In the second they went toe to toe in the trenches with both scoring heavily to the body and the head(17-16). The inside brawl continued but Arreola started throwing his weight around and he got the best of the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds with short right hands and uppercuts to the chin. Early in the seventh Povetkin caught Chris with a sweeping hook that buckled his legs and the Russian unloaded with both hands and connected with twenty plus unanswered blows before the referee stepped in and called a halt.


Sinan Samil Sam 18-0-1 (9) vs Konstantin Onofrei 28-3 (15)

Onofrei scored a knockdown in the third with a right hand and followed up with damaging blows that left Sam with a swollen left eye. Sinan got it together and was scoring well on the inside when a vicious uppercut from Konstantin dropped him again in round eight. The undefeated Samil forged forward and swept the last two round escape with a MD. 95-93, 95-94 & 94-94


Audley Harrison 20-3 (18) vs Colin Kenna 18-6-1 (6)

After three slow rounds, Audley began to bounce Kenna off of the canvas like a basketball and he totaled five knockdowns, including the cross that iced Colin in round six.

Yeah, Sultan/Haye II is likely if they end up in the same month. Haye has been getting pretty nasty as of late.

I have my nerd tourney open right now. But Skelton is top 30, Audley was 150+ like I said, but Kenna was 66. So I think Audley is probably at least up to 100. We'll get him there. I'm going to try and get him one of the former champs at end for next fight.

Ibragimov was using his right jab to dominate the opening round when, in the final thirty seconds, Brock fired a counter hook over a jab and opened a gushing cut over Ibragimov's right eye. Sultan was undeterred and he went to movement and jabs to thoroughly out-box Brock despite the heavy blood flow. Then in round eleven another hook from the 'Boxing Banker' split the eye wide open and the referee and doctor decided that Ibragimov was unable to continue. The dejected Russian was ahead by eight on one card and six on the other two.


Robert Helenius 43-12 (30) vs Matt Skelton 27-5-1 (23)

Helenius showed that the old guard wasn't ready for pasture by dominating the first three rounds with stiff jabs and right hands. Early in the fourth Skelton floored his giant rival with a booming right hand, Robert was up ats even but Matt tore into him with both hands and battered Helenius until the ref intervened.


Tye Fields 21-0 (16) vs Travis Walker 31-7 (25)

Tye clubbed Walker in the opening round with uppercuts and hooks to the body. In round two Travis staggered Fields with a hook and he repeatedly landed that blow over the remainder of the round and the third as well, leaving Tye with a badly swollen right eye. Walker continued to control the action and he floored Fields in the sixth en route to snatching the giants '0' via UD. 92-98, 92-97 & 93-96


Tommy Zbikowski 41-9 (26) vs Dominick Guinn 22-1-1 (10)

Guinn floored Tommy in round two with a nasty hook flush on the chin, Zbikowski came back in rounds three and four with hard right hands. They went toe to toe on even terms in round four, but Dominick's hook brought swelling from Tommy's right eye. Guinn sporadically landed shots that rocked Zbikowski, but he just wan't active enough and Tommy out-worked him to earn the MD. 97-92, 96-93 & 95-95


Sam Peter 25-6-1 (19) vs Kubrat Pulev 48-12-1 (23)

Pulev turned back the clock in the early going, tagging Peter with sharp combinations. They settled into a grappling, and frankly dull affair, but Pulev appeared to be wearing down when Peter hurt him in round nine with a right hand and he followed up with a barrage of blows before Kubrat caught him with a counter hook that floored Sam for a five count just before the bell. Sam had a dominant final round but the kd led Pulev to an impressive MD. 94-95 x2 & 95-95

Mike started the year with a UD12 over Marco Huck and then, in an emotional battle, he rolled into Moscow and dethroned Sultan Ibragimov with a UD12 in an excellent fight that saw his long time pursuit of a title rewarded. Perez managed two defenses, a UD12 over Rene Dettweiler and a tough draw with Mark De Mori whom he will rematch in April.

Calvin had a huge year, going 5-0 with wins over Grabus Zulfedin(KO7), Chris Arreola(UD12), Steve Cunningham(UD12), Denis Boytsov(TKO6) and a fortunate TKO11 via cuts over former champion Sultan Ibragimov in a fight he was badly outclassed in.

Haye looks to match Seth Mitchell & Chris Arreola with seven successful title defenses, one behind Odlanier Solis for the all-time record. Meanwhile, Povetkin gets his fourth title opportunity. While his 3 decision losses weren't particularly close, he continues to perform well against the other contenders and these chances have all been earned.

The determined Povetkin started strong, hurting the champion in the opening round with a sweeping left hook. David's speed advantage was evident in rounds two and three where he pot-shotted Alexander with right hands and moved out of harms way. After a slow fourth, the champion dominated the fifth and much of the sixth with combinations before Alexander dropped Haye for a three count late in round six with a counter hook.

David showed his championship heart by going toe to toe with Povetkin in an even round seven. After that, with the exception of a dull final round, it was all Haye. He hammered Alexander with hard right hands that nearly closed his left eye, and on my card swept rounds 8-11 without any question. The judges, however, turned on the drama when the announcer said we have a split decision. 114-113 x2 & 114-115 for haye by the narrowest of margins.

After two even rounds, Tony began to dominate with his awkward arsenal of short right hooks and uppercuts on the inside, in the fifth he unloaded a barrage of shots that put Price down for the count in what is likely the last title fight in David's illustrious career.


Samil Sinan Sam 19-0-1 (9) vs Odlanier Solis 39-8-2 (25)

Solis came in grossly overweight and was content to lay on the ropes and fire occasional counters. This worked for Sam and he pounded that ample midsection and nearly closed Odlanier's left eye, busted his mouth open and dropped the Cuban in round eight with an overhand right, en route to a sound UD. 98-90 & 98-91 x2


Magomed Abdusalamov 46-9-2 (33) vs Johnathon Banks 35-6-1 (23)

During an even opening frame, Banks scored with a three punch combo that opened a hideous gash over the Russians left eye. Showing off his warrior spirit, Magomed dropped Banks in the second with an uppercut and hammered the american in a dominant stanza that left Banks with two rapidly swelling eyes. After an impassioned speech from Emmanuel Steward, Johnathon staggered the long time former champion in the third with several hard right hands.

They slugged it out in round four, but the clean right hands of the Kronk fighter may have gained a slight edge. Not to be out done, Eddie Futch inspired his fighter in between rounds and Abdusalamov put it on banks in round five with short, hard, shots in tight. Banks was in a shell in the sixth, early in the seventh Johnathon was floored by a hook for a five count and magomed poured it on until the ref stepped in to spare Banks further punishment in an excellent scrap.


Travis Walker 32-7 (25) vs Artur Szpilka 43-13-4 (31)

Walker continued to surge with a dominant performance, his potent hook made a mess of Szpilka's right eye and an uppercut dropped Artur in round four. Travis dumped him twice more in the seventh, the second time with a chilling hook that sent blood flying before Szpilka landed flat on his back where he stayed motionless for the ten count.


Tyson Fury 37-9-6 (26) vs Malik Scott 20-2-1 (4)

Fury was never a great mover, in the latter stages of his career that flaw is magnified and Scott exploited it much of the time and that led to a lack of action. One thing that could never be questioned about Tyson is his willingness to mix it up and he dominated the final three rounds with clubbing right hands and uppercuts to pull out the SD. 98-94, 93-98 & 97-95

Yeah, I decided to go one more defense, if a judge wouldn't have given a card to Povetkin that fight would have been next, now they're on different months.

There has been some rumblings that Perez may sidestep that rematch and take on Luis Ortiz again.

Ortiz is still post-prime, so he'd be a sizable favorite. I'm going to stick with De Mori, he deserves the rematch and it's an even fight.

Know I wrote Ortiz off, but Huck was his last big win, and he's had a few even bigger defeats to unknowns since.

He's in a rough patch for sure. I'd expect end stage to be popping up sooner rather than later, but you never know.
