Jr Lightweight- Second Round

Cornelius Boza-Edwards 38-2 (28) vs Hwan-Kil Yuh 10-7-3 (1)

Yuh started well and confused Boza with awkward movement and steady jabs, one of which split open Edwards' left eye in round four. Cornelius dug deep, despite the cut constantly bleeding, and ripped off hard combos on the inside to grind out a tough MD. 98-94, 97-95 & 96-96

Yodsanan Nanthachai 16-4 (10) vs Juan Carlos Velasquez 11-9 (4)

Juan Carlos boxed brilliantly in the opening round, firing off one-twos and using footwork to allude his hard charging rivals powerful swats. That changed early in round two when Yodsanan scored with a vicious uppercut that buckled Velasquez' legs and Nanthachai pummeled him until the ref called a halt at the two minute mark of round two.

(WBO) Frankie Klick 32-8 (8) vs Eloy Perez 11-9 (1)

Neither man was ever hurt and most rounds were highly competitive, but Klick was usually one step ahead with his higher work rate and he took the solid UD. 146-139 x3

Fidel LaBarba 73-10-4 (18) vs Carlos Canete 14-5-1 (7)

Carlos used his size and aggression to completely out-work his legendary foe. Fidel's defense was hard to penetrate but Canete scored well to the body and threw way more punches en route to the upset UD. 99-91 & 97-93 x2

Erik Morales 92-15-3 (59) vs Apollo Yoshio 11-9

Oh man, Yoshio's hit and run style frustrated Erik from the outset and while Morales continued to press the Japanese fighter scored heavily with counters in a frenetic final round to score the upset SD and break my heart. 96-95 x2 & 95-96

(IBF) Genaro Hernandez 18-2 (8) vs Angel Manfredy 10-9-1 (2)

Manfredy hurt 'Chicanito' in round one with a right hand and he fought well through five rounds. Hernandez began to score with hard right hands that eventually closed Manfredy's left eye and Genaro advanced via UD. 118-110 x3

Samuel Serrano 16-4 (4) vs Jason Litzau 30-10-3 (12)

Litzau dropped Sammy in the second and third rounds with right hands and he continued to rough up his slicker foe, bloodying and nearly closing his left eye en route to a dominant upset UD. 97-91 x2 & 97-92

Robert Guerrero 54-10-1 (30) vs Janos Nagy 11-8-1 (3)

Guerrero was sluggish in the early going but he picked it up down the stretch, hurting Nagy several times with uppercuts and straight left hands to earn the closer than expected UD. 97-93 x2 & 96-95

Jr Lightweight- Second Round

Rolando Navarrete 18-2 (10) vs Antonio Amaya 13-4-3 (2)

Navarrete had total control of this one until he dropped Amaya early in the third with a hook and then he battered him until a brutal cross left Antonio flat on his back for the count later in round three.

Harry Blitman 29-12-1 (6) vs Joan Guzman 42-17-3 (27)

Guzman built a lead behind his blindingly fast hands and a hook opened a cut over Harry's right eye in round four, early in the sixth a wicked hook to the body put Blitman down for an eight count, Joan promptly floored him again with a three punch combo and though he barely beat the count, the ref stopped the bout.

Lothar Abend 15-4-1 (3) vs Jorge Paez 33-12-1 (12)

Paez couldn't find the form that led him to shock the world by reaching the Featherweight Quarter finals, Abend was steady as it goes working behind his jab and he even floored the Mexican in round eight with a hook on the way to a shockingly SD. 98-91, 94-95 & 96-93

Eddie Shea 29-11-4 (9) vs Robbie Peden 12-6-2 (2)

Shea was too technical for Robbie, using strong footwork and combinations to keep Peden unhinged and he took the wide UD. 99-91, 98-93 & 97-93

Tony Lopez 32-8 (21) vs Brian Mitchell 16-4 (2)

Brian used his jab and deft footwork to control the first three rounds. Lopez tired of this and upped the pressure in round four, driving Mitchell to the ropes with a nasty right hand and getting the best of the action despite some solid counters from the Sought African. Tony hurt him twice in round five with left hooks during another strong round for the Tiger.

Midway through round six Lopez floored Mitchell with a right hand and he threw everything he had at him over the remainder of the round but was unable to close the show. Brian took advantage of his arm weary foe in the seventh with two and three punch combos but that was all he had left and Lopez cruised down the stretch to earn a UD. 97-92 & 96-93 x2

Bazooka Limon 15-4-1 (9) vs Takashi Uchiyama 10-9-1 (6)

This bout produced violent inside exchanges but Limon was almost always dictating the action and a knockdown in round seven solidified the Mexicans dominance and Rafael went on to take the UD. 98-92, 98-93 & 97-93

(WBA) Antonio Cermeno 53-10-3 (28) vs Vicente Derado 10-8-2 (1)

Cermeno suffered a bad cut over his right eye in round two, but he barely noticed it as he hammered Derado along the ropes for much of the fight; opening a cut under Vicente's right eye and nearly closing his left en route the impressive UD. 120-109, 119-110 & 116-113

Adrien Broner 14-6 (6) vs Celestino Caballero 46-17-1 (28)

Caballero out-worked Adrien for long stretches but when Adrien fired there were dire consequences. Celestino opened a bad cut on the right eye brow in round three but Broner rebounded with knockdowns in rounds five and seven from vicious right hands. Caballero rebounded with a big eighth and he reopened the gash early in round nine and that prompted the referees stoppage.

Jr Lightweight- Second Round

Roberto Garcia 13-7 (8) vs (IBO) Yusuke Kobori 25-13-2 (11)

After a violent back and forth opening round, Garcia dropped Kobori with a hook in round two and thought he champion surged in the middle rounds, Roberto took back over and floored Yusuke again in round eleven to punctuate his well earned UD. 117-109, 116-110 & 116-111

Roman Martinez 16-3-1 (8) vs Phillip N'Dou 18-20-2 (9)

These guys went at it for the first five rounds on even terms with both men landing punishing hooks to the head and body. The pace slowed over the second half of the bout, but it was still razor close and the judges rendered a fair draw. 96-94, 94-96 & 95-95

Johnny Dundee 33-10 (11) vs Juan Jose Arias 12-6-2 (6)

Dundee was in a different class and he used those skills to befuddle Arias and take the wide UD. 99-91 x2 & 98-92

Manuel Medina 31-9-2 (12) vs Calvin Grove 27-10-4 (14)

Their styles didn't provide constant fireworks, but it was an entertaining enough bout. Grove broke open the fight when he floored Medina with a hook for nine count in round nine and he dominated the final round to ensure the UD win. 97-92 x2 & 96-93

Pierre Cote 32-7-1 (18) vs Steven Luevano 21-17-3 (6)

The Canadian was rated in the wrong division, but he is still here and Cote and Luevano engaged in a largely tactical bout that saw Cote's aggression lead him to a SD win. 99-91, 94-96 & 96-94

Kamel Bou Ali 8-11-1 (4) vs Carlos Ramon Rios 11-8-1 (4)

This was a highly entertaining, and foul ridden, bout. Neither man created a gap for himself, but, in round eight, Ali was disqualified for an intentional headbutt.

Diego Corrales 34-5-1 (29) vs Tracy Patterson 29-12 (17)

Patterson used his speed to open an early lead and create a nasty gash on Diego's forehead in round three. 'Chico' responded with powerful hooks to the body and head that put Tracy into a defensive posture and Corrales was able to grind out the UD. 97-93 x3

Benny Bass 31-10-1 (11) vs Edelmiro Martinez 15-5 (4)

Martinez suffered a nasty knockdown in round three from an overhand right, but he beat the count and managed to match Benny in a tactical battle until the tenth when Edelmiro rocked Bass twice with hooks to pull out the razor close UD. 96-94 & 95-94 x2

Jr Lightweight- Second Round

Jeff Fenech 71-15-3 (46) vs Sammy Goss 12-6-2 (2)

Jeff pushed Goss to the ropes for the majority of the fight and he landed nasty body shots and hooks and uppercuts to the head to wear down Sammy until he floored him in round five with a combo and forced the stoppage later in the round.

Juan LaPorte 32-7-3 (15) vs Kuniaki Shibata 13-6-1 (5)

Shibata fired off combinations and moved out of Laporte's way with the exception of the sixth round when Juan rocked him twice with thunderous right hands. The Japanese fighter regained his composure and finished strong to record an impressive UD. 98-92 x2 & 97-93

Hyun-Chi Kim 11-9 (4) vs Johnny De la Rosa 13-6-1 (9)

The Asian contingency continued to impress as Kim, representing South Korea, put a beat down on Johnny, badly swelling both of his eyes from combinations and turning out his lights with an uppercut in round eight.

Auburn Copeland 13-5-2 (3) vs Wilfredo Gomez 78-13-1 (61)

Copeland opened a cut over Gomez' right eye in the third round and it bled throughout the bout. While Auburn seemed to have control in most rounds, 'Bazooka' did hurt him in the seventh and ninth rounds with right hands and that propelled Wilfredo to the controversial MD. 96-95 x2 & 97-97

Frankie Baltazar 15-4-1 (8) vs Cassius Baloyi 14-5-1 (5)

Frankie put forth a dominant effort, pasting Baloyi with combinations to the head and body until he dropped Cassius three times in round eight for an automatic stoppage.

Mike Ballerino 13-6-1 (2) vs Leonel Hernandez 13-6-1 (6)

Hernandez put Mike away early in round two with a vicious combo flush on the chin.

Jesse James Leija 38-19-3 (16) vs Humberto Soto 53-25-4 (27)

Soto opened a cut over Leija's left eye in round one and he got the best of some heavy exchanges over the first three rounds. In the fourth and fifth Jesse stormed back and he buckled Humberto's legs with a right hand in round five. Soto floored Leija with a counter hook in round six and after they traded evenly down the stretch that knockdown provided Soto with his slim margin of victory, 96-93 & 95-94 x2

Gabriel Ruelas 12-7-1 (6) vs Yong-Soo Choi 13-5-2 (3)

Choi's stiff jab and occasional crosses had Gabe's face a mess after only three rounds, both eyes swelling and a nasty gash on his forehead, but Ruelas began to score with powerful right hands and hooks and he had all of the momentum when a violent hook crashed into Choi's chin and put him down for the count in round eight.

Regilio Turr 15-4-1 (7) vs Jorge Linares 45-15-2 (31)

Turr floored Linares in round two, but Jorge boxed well over the next several rounds until Rogelio dropped Linares twice more in the final round to secure the UD win. 97-91 x2 & 95-93

Ricky Burns 14-6 (3) vs Frankie Otero 12-5-3 (4)

Rematch: Burns UD10

They were predominantly boxing behind their jabs when, out of nowhere, Ricky Burns landed a right hand flush on the chin that put Otero down for a highly unlikely one punch KO late in round four.

Arnulfo Castillo 15-3-2 (6) vs Arturo Gatti 56-22-2 (36)

Castillo took it to Gatti early on but his lack of power hurt him and Gatti started connecting with thunderous hooks to the body and head before a barrage of blows led the ref to step in late in round four.

Julio Pablo Chacon 12-8 (7) vs Jorge Solis 27-14-1 (15)

This was a grueling inside fight that saw both men swollen and bloodied, Solis took over in the last two rounds with punishing left hooks and he took the well earned UD. 97-94 & 96-95 x2

Carmelo Negron 26-13-2 (14) vs Ever Beleno 12-6-2 (7)

Beleno thoroughly dominated Negron, cutting his right eye in round two, dropping him in round three and flooring him three more times in round nine for the automatic stoppage.

Tiger Ari 8-11-1 (3) vs Greg Coverson 17-2-1 (4)

This was a stinky fight, but Ari was more willing and he seemed to earn the win. Two judges disagreed and Greg took a disputed SD. 97-96, 95-96 & 96-95

Jack Bernstein 14-4-2 vs John-John Molina 29-10-1 (22)

Bernstein boxed well early and had Molina's left eye badly swelling, but John-John continued to press forward and jack's lack of power hurt him. Finally in round nine Molina dropped him twice and forced the stoppage late in the stanza with a flurry while Bernstein was trapped in the corner.

Jr Lightweight Third Round

Manny Pacquiao 154-15-3 (140) vs John-John Molina 30-10-1 (23)

Manny's rapier left hand couldn't miss Molina from the opening bell, he busted open his nose in round one and staggered him four times in round two before the ref stepped in with Pac hammering him along the ropes at the end of the second stanza.

Azumah Nelson 42-2 (34) vs Greg Coverson 18-2-1 (4)

Coverson countered brilliantly at times, but the Professors pressure had Greg up against the ropes for the most of the fast paced bout and Nelson took a surprisingly majority decision. 118-110, 117-111 & 114-114

Alexis Arguello 79-6 (70) vs Ever Beleno 13-6-2 (8)

Arguello dropped Beleno early with an uppercut and unloaded with both hands until the bout was stopped after just over half a round.

Ben Villaflor 21-0 (7) vs Jorge Solis 28-14-1 (15)

Solis exploded out of his corner and walked into a short hook that sent the Mexican stumbling across the ring. Villaflor pounced on him with blazing combos and the bout was halted late in round one.

Sandy Saddler 62-4-1 (50) vs Arturo Gatti 57-22-2 (37)

In what was expected to be a walkover, Gatti took a beating over the first three rounds but he clipped Sandy with a hook in round four and he pummeled the favored Saddler throughout the three minutes, at the end of the round the ref was looking closely as Thunder blasted hooks to the body and head.

Arturo continued to excel over the next two rounds, hammering Sandy with crushing hooks and uppercuts as the crowd roared. Saddler bounced back in round seven and he scored with both hands that left Gatti with two swollen eyes heading back to his corner. They traded evenly in round eight as the spectators continued to cheer the underdog on.

Saddler staggered Gatti twice in round nine with short hooks and early in the tenth he floored Arturo with a three punch combo, a blistering body attack ensued and an uppercut put Gatti down again; he arose at seven but was unable to continue after the best effort of his life.

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. 96-3-2 (55) vs Ricky Burns 15-6 (4)

Burns proved to be tough, but he had nothing to keep Floyd honest with and Mayweather dominated, scoring a knockdown in the final round to seal the lopsided UD. 120-108 x2 & 119-108

Carlos Hernandez 15-6-1 (6) vs Regilio Tuur 16-4-1 (7)

This was a nice contrast with Tuur using his speed to out-box Hernandez early and Famoso charging after rocking Regilio several times in rounds seven and eight. 'Turbo' Tuur did enough early to take the MD. 115-113, 115-114 & 114-114

Julio Cesar Chavez 72-6-3 (52) vs Jesus Chavez 20-16-5 (11)

Julio floored Jesus in the third with a hook and broke him down to the body and head until two more knockdowns in round nine and a barrage of blows afterwards forced the ref to step in.

Hector Camacho, Sr. 75-22-4 (27) vs Gabriel Ruelas 13-7-1 (7)

For the second straight bout, Camacho's speed overwhelmed a tough rival and he sliced up Gabe's face with combinations before dropping him late in round eleven and three times in round twelve for the automatic stoppage.

Jose Luis Castillo 86-16-2 (54) vs Humberto Soto 54-25-4 (27)

Rematch: Castillo MD12

Castillo set the tone early when he floored Soto with a pinpoint hook for a nine count in round two. Soto surged in the mid rounds and his combos drew blood from JLC's right eye and swelling from his left, but Castillo grit his teeth and hammered his countryman down the stretch with hooks to the head and body to earn the entertaining UD. 116-111 & 116-112 x2

Joel Casamayor 39-1-1 (20) vs Leonel Hernandez 14-6-1 (7)

Casmayor came out aggressively in the first two rounds, rocking Hernandez with hard left hands behind stiff jabs. When it became apparent that leonel wasn't going anywhere Joel settled in for a workmanlike performance the rest of the way to take a clear UD. 117-111 x2 & 116-112

Roger Mayweather 50-9-2 (33) vs Frankie Baltazar 16-4-1 (9)

Roger scored with lead right hands all night, one of which put Frankie flat on his face to end the one sided fight in round six.

Kid Chocolate 43-2-1 (20) vs Wilfredo Gomez 79-13-1 (61)

Another tourney ended for 'Bazooka', this time with a nasty beating at the hands of the Cuban. Chocolate closed Wilfredo's left eye and had his right gushing blood when a three punch combo put Gomez down for the count in round eleven.

Gabriel Elorde 38-3 (21) vs Hyun-Chi Kim 12-9 (5)

Flash was dominant, flooring Kim four times including twice in round twelve and the ref rescued the floundering South Korean later in the final round.

Chan Ka Kui 42-3-1 (21) vs Kuniaki Shibata 14-6-1 (5)

You don't see many high profile fights between Chinese and Japanese fighters so there was a lot of emotion involved and things were very tight when Kui dropped Shibata in round seven and exploded with a barrage of shots that prompted the TKO.

Yuriorkis Gamboa 39-9 (25) vs Jeff Fenech 72-15-3 (47)

Gamboa put forth a tremendous effort, staggering the hard charging Aussie throughout the contest and absorbing some ferocious body shots from Jeff before dropping him at the end of the sixth with a short right and then knocking Fenech out cold in the seventh with a ridiculous four punch combination.

Tod Morgan 14-6-1 (2) vs Diego Corrales 35-5-1 (29)

Tod used the same spoiling tactics that defeated Juan Manuel Marquez to take the first two rounds, in the third Chico connected with a wicked hook and he took Morgan to task over the rest of the round. With Corrales in control, Morgan nutted up and went toe to toe with Diego in rounds five through seven and every round was packed with action. With everything up for grabs Tod was boxing well in the final round when Corrales dropped him with an uppercut with eighteen seconds left in the fight and that allowed Chico to take the UD. 116-113 & 115-113 x2

Tyrone Everett 20-1 (11) vs Carlos Ramon Rios 12-8-1 (4)

Rios shocked everyone in attendance when he dropped Tyrone a minute into the fight and he battered Everett over the remainder of the round so severely that the ref almost stepped in (3-31). Everett dusted himself off and used his jabs and combination punching to massacre Rios' face until the doctor recommended the stoppage in round ten.

Alfredo Escalera 20-1 (16) vs Pierre Cote 33-7-1 (18)

Cote showed off his explosive speed, but Escalera landed the more powerful blows and that enabled him to escape with a tight UD. 115-112 & 114-113 x2

Cornelius Boza-Edwards 39-2 (28) vs Celestino Caballero 47-17-1 (29)

This was a vicious war, with Boza hurting Caballero in many rounds but Celestino was the more active competitor and he banked the rounds he wasn't woozy in. Carlos Canete 15-5-1 (7) vs Tony Lopez 33-8 (21)

Robert Guerrero 55-10-1 (30) vs Rolando Navarette 19-2 (11)

The 'Ghost' suffered a bad cut over his left eye in the opening round, though the cut reopened several times Guerrero battled through it and managed to move on with a SD. 116-111, 113-114 & 115-112

Jr Lightweight Third Round (Rematch)

Yodsanan Nanthachai 17-4-1 (11) vs (WBA) Antonio Cermeno 54-10-4 (28)

Yodsanan was badly cut over his right eye in round three, but he continued to press forward and nearly finished Antonio with a barrage of blows in a dominant seventh round. Down on the cards, Cermeno floored the challenger in round nine with an uppercut and his follow up attack reopened the wound and caused the halt of a vicious brawl.

Jr Lightweight Fourth Round

Manny Pacquiao 155-15-3 (141) vs Robert Guerrero 56-10-1 (30)

Rematch: Pacquiao SD12

Manny's left hand was on point in the first two rounds and it created some nasty swelling on 'The Ghost's' right eye, Robert settled in during the third and fourth and he roughed Pac up, staggering him with an uppercut in round four. Manny assumed control until Guerrero opened a nasty gash on his forehead in round eight and the Pac Man responded with three knockdowns in round nine for the automatic stoppage.

Azumah Nelson 43-2 (34) vs Joan Guzman 44-17-3 (29)

Nelson hurt Guzman with a right hand moments into the bout and Joan never recovered, suffering four knockdowns; the final one for the count in round nine courtesy of a violent 3 punch combo.

Alexis Arguello 80-6 (71) vs (IBF) Genaro Hernandez 20-2 (9)

Genaro used his legs and his jab to box brilliantly over the first three rounds, in particularly in round two when he tagged Alexis with several clean combinations. Arguello started to find his range with his vicious combos and he dropped the champion in rounds six and ten en route to the wide UD. 117-109 x2 & 116-110

Ben Villaflor 22-0 (8) vs Eddie Shea 31-11-4 (9)

All of Eddie's skills couldn't overcome Ben's superior speed in the first four rounds and Shea suffered a cut right eye, swollen left eye and a spectacular knockdown from a four punch combo in round three. That all changed when he drilled Villaflor in round five with a short check hook that put the Filipino down for a nine count and Eddie connected with several strong combos to finish off a huge comeback round.

Shea had another nice round in the sixth and he momentarily stunned Ben with a right hand. After a few tight, tactical, rounds Villaflor began to score at will with his left hand and a murderous straight left put Eddie down for the count in round eleven.

Jr Lightweight Fourth Round

Sandy Saddler 63-4-1 (51) vs Carlos Canete 16-5-1 (8)

Sandy caught Canete with a picture perfect hook that dropped him for a nine count less than a minute into the bout, Saddler followed up with brutal shots until a combination floored Carlos again and the bout was stopped after two and a half minutes of thorough domination from Saddler.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. 97-3-2 (55) vs (WBO) Rafael Limon 17-4-1 (9)

Bazooka's relentless pressure had Floyd on the defensive in the first four rounds and he opened a cut over Moneys left eye with an uppercut in round three. Floyd gathered himself and opened up his offense over the next four rounds, pummeling Limon with nasty combinations that started to mark up his right eye.

After several close rounds, Mayweather really opened up down the stretch when he targeted the left eye with heavy right hands and he dropped Rafael in the fourteenth with a right hand before battering the Mexican over the final three minutes to solidify a tough UD. 145-138 & 144-139 x2

Regilio Tuur 17-4-1 (7) vs (WBA) Antonio Cermeno 55-10-4 (29)

This was a back and forth bout through eight rounds with both guys landing hard shots. In round nine Tuur floored the champion with a hook and he dominated down the stretch only to be robbed by two judges with a majority draw, 117-110 & 114-114 x2

Julio Cesar Chavez 73-6-3 (53) vs Cornelius Boza-Edwards 40-2 (28)

Julio pressed forward in the early going and clipped Edwards with hard hooks to the body and right hands to the head. Boza responded well and they fought evenly until Edwards dominated the seventh and eighth rounds with brutal straight lefts and hooks that had Chavez backing off. Chavez lead right hand dominated round eleven but Edwards came back in the final round with several ripping uppercuts and we had a second consecutive draw. 112-115 & 114-114 x2

Jr Lightweight Fourth Round

Hector Camacho 76-22-4 (28) vs (IBO) Marco Antonio Barrera 75-14-2 (55)

Rematch: Camacho TKO11

'Macho' continued to look amazing in this tournament in the early going with blazing and powerful combinations that had the Mexican warrior playing catch up. In the fourth Barrera forged in tight and scored with heavy hooks in close that left Camacho with a swollen right eye. Marco got rough in the fifth and a clash of heads wasn't beneficial to him as MAB came away with a hideous gash over his right eye. Early in the sixth a left from Camacho widened the cut and they went to the cards where Camacho's early lead was rewarded with the UTD. 49-46 x3

Jose Luis Castillo 87-16-2 (54) vs Roger Bernard 33-6-3 (8)

Castillo's aggression were too much for the slick Bernard, and, while his defense enabled him to survive two knockdowns, the UD for JLC was a mere formality. 118-108, 117-109 & 117-110

Joel Casamayor 40-1-1 (20) vs (WBC) Acelino Freitas 36-6 (19)

Rematch: Casamayor UD12

The Cuban kept Acelino on the end of his jab and the Brazilians left eye was badly swollen after three rounds, 'Popo' pressed forward from there but it just opened up the brilliant counter punching of Casamayor and he dropped Freitas three times on the way to a shockingly one sided UD. 119-106 & 117-108 x2

Roger Mayweather 51-9-2 (34) vs Calvin Grove 29-10-4 (14)

Grove was willing to engage Roger and it led to consistently exciting exchanges, but the power differential was vast and Mayweather dropped him with a right hand in the sixth and hurt Calvin several other times en route to the clear UD. 119-108, 118-109 & 115-112

Jr Lightweight Fourth Round

Kid Chocolate 44-2-1 (21) vs Alfredo Escalera 21-1 (16)

This was tightly contested throughout with Escalera landing harder shots and throwing more often while Chocolate defended brilliantly and was more accurate. In round eleven El Sassero scored with several right hands to the ample chin of the Cuban and that delighted the Puerto Rican crowd almost as much as the tenuous SD that went Alfredo's way. 115-113 x2 & 113-115

Gabriel Elorde 39-3 (22) vs Tyrone Everett 21-1 (12)

This was a tactical battle but Flash was more willing to put it all out there and he broke open the close fight with a dominant eleventh and a flash knockdown from a left hand in round twelve and that helped Elorde earn the UD. 117-111, 116-112 & 115-113

Chan Ka Kui 43-3-1 (22) vs Diego Corrales 36-5-1 (29)

Kui's speed troubled Chico for long stretches but his lack of power enabled Diego to walk through his shots and dig on the inside, an uppercut opened a nasty cut over Chan's left eye in round three and it was reopened several times until the crimson caused a stoppage in round eight.

Yuriorkis Gamboa 40-9 (26) vs Rocky Lockridge 39-6 (28)

Rematch: Gamboa UD12 & KO1

The third time was almost the charm for lockridge, pressing the fight and landing with hard body shots and right hands. Gamboa floored him in the sixth and again in round eleven during a furious rally that enabled the Cuban to secure a draw. 112-114 & 113-113 x2

Jr Lightweight Fourth Round (Rematches)

Rogelio Tuur 17-4-2 (7) vs (WBA) Antonio Cermeno 55-10-5 (29)

In another back and forth affair, Cermeno battled through a badly swollen right eye to take the final round, and the fight, with a series of punishing combos that led to the razor tight UD. 115-113 x2 & 115-114

Julio Cesar Chavez 73-6-4 (53) vs Cornelius Boza-Edwards 40-2-1 (28)

Chavez rocked Edwards three times in the opening round with right hands and the frame closed with the Mexican teeing off on his rival in the corner as the referee watched closely. The gritty Ugandan battled back in the next two rounds when he clipped Julio with straight left hands and nasty uppercuts. Chavez drew rapid swelling from Boza's right eye with hooks in round four and he pummeled Edwards in the fifth until a stream of fifteen consecutive shots prompted the referee to call a halt and move Julio into the next round.

Yuriorkis Gamboa 40-9-1 (26) vs Rocky Lockridge 39-6-1 (28)

Their fourth meeting led to quick and sustained violence as they traded bombs from the outset, by the end of the sixth round Gamboa had a badly cut right eye and a swollen left one but that didn't stop him from rocking Lockridge with rapid combinations as they went toe to toe.

The pace slowed a bit in the second half but Lockridge floored gamboa with a massive right hand in round ten and the only surprise with the decision in Rocky's favor was the fact that it was split. 115-112, 113-114 & 114-112

Jr Lightweight Fifth Round

Manny Pacquiao 156-15-3 (142) vs Rocky Lockridge 40-6-1 (28)

After a strong opening round from Rocky, Manny began connecting with searing left hands that had Lockridge' right eye badly swollen by the end of round four. Rocky forged inside at times and it led to violent rounds in the sixth, eighth and tenth, but around that the speed of the Pac man was too much and he battered Lockridge from pillar to post in the final round to punctuate the well earned UD. 116-111 x2 & 116-112

Azumah Nelson 44-2 (35) vs Diego Corrales 37-5-1 (30)

They met in the center of the ring at the opening bell and traded viciously until a right hand from Nelson floored Diego for a seven count, on wobbly legs Chico fought back with hooks but Azumah continued to land his right hand and a hook to the body followed by an overhand right put Diego down for the count late in round one.

(IBF) Alexis Arguello 81-6 (71) vs Gabriel Elorde 40-3 (22)

Elorde's speedy combos carried the first round and a half until a devastating uppercut from Arguello floored the Filipino late in round two and Alexis unloaded with precision combinations from the beginning of round three until a four punch salvo sent his mouthpiece flying and the ref rescued Elorde late in the third.

Ben Villaflor 23-0 (9) vs Alfredo Escalera 22-1 (16)

Alfredo's right hand was the dominant punch in the fight, Villaflor's speed advantage was nullified by the timing and power of Escalera's right hand and he staggered Ben several times and fought off his flurries en route to the upset UD. 119-110, 117-112 & 116-113

Jr Lightweight Fifth Round

Sandy Saddler 64-4-1 (52) vs Roger Mayweather 52-9-2 (34)

Mayweather's speed kept him in the bout early on, but once Sandy floored him in the fourth with an uppercut Roger was forced into a defensive posture and he suffered two more knockdowns before Saddler forced the ref's hand with a barrage of blows in round ten.

(WBO) Floyd Mayweather Jr. 98-3-2 (55) vs (WBC) Joel Casamayor 41-1-1 (20)

Floyd shocked most in attendance by flooring the Cuban a minute into the fight with a lead right hand, while Casamayor fought well in spurts and bloodied and swelled Mayweather's left eye, Money scored three more knockdowns and took a wide UD. 118-107, 117-107 & 116-109

(WBA) Antonio Cermeno 56-10-5 (29) vs Jose Luis Castillo 88-16-2 (54)

Castillo methodically broke down the champion with a relentless body attack and hooks and uppercuts to the head that puffed up both of Cermeno's eyes. A wicked hook floored Antonio in round eleven and Castillo cruised home for the wide UD. 118-109 x2 & 117-110

Julio Cesar Chavez 74-6-4 (54) vs (IBO) Hector Camacho 77-22-4 (28)

Rematch: Chavez TKO9

Moments into the fight Chavez ducked into a murderous uppercut that flattened the Mexican on his face for a nine count, Julio survived the round and started to paste Hector on the inside with body work and short right hands to the head that had 'Macho's' left eye swelling by the close of round four.

They fought evenly over the next few rounds with Camacho firing off speedy combos at a distance and Chavez digging to the body when he cut off the ring. In round eight they went toe to toe, Hector scored with several hard left hands but he suffered a nasty gash over his already marked up left eye from a Chavez right hand late in the round.

Julio's pressure had Hector holding and posturing during much of the stretch run, Camacho had a strong twelfth round in spite of his closed left eye but it wasn't quite enough and Chavez advanced via SD. 115-112, 113-114 & 115-113

Manny Pacquiao 157-15-3 (142) vs (IBO) Julio Cesar Chavez 75-6-4 (54)

Rematch: Pacquiao UD12

They traded violently over the first three rounds with Pacquiao having a slight edge and Chavez dealing with nasty swelling on his right eye. In the fourth Julio dropped manny to his knees with a wicked hook to the body, Pac was up at nine but JCC buried several more hard shots into his midsection before the bell.

The Filipinos speed carried the next three rounds as he tagged Julio with punishing left hands and bounced away from return fire. In the eighth Chavez connected with a brutal right hand that rocked Pacquiao and he followed up with a damaging barrage of blows along the ropes.

The tight fight turned lopsided down the stretch when Manny measured Chavez with one left hand after another and used his legs to avoid the Mexicans blows and solidify the Pacquiao UD. 116-111 x2 & 115-112

Azumah Nelson 45-2 (36) vs (WBA) Jose Luis Castillo 89-16-2 (54)

This was a surprisingly tactical bout over the first half of the fight but nelson and Castillo started going at it in the seventh round and while the action was tight, Jose's face started suffering with swelling and blood. Nelson dropped his rival late in the eleventh with a winging hook and unloaded the second the bell sounded for round twelve and the referee stepped in with a minute left in the fight while Castillo ate heavy artillery in the corner.

(WBA) Alexis Arguello 82-6 (72) vs (WBC & WBO) Floyd Mayweather Jr. 99-3-2 (55)

At the very end of a cautious opening round Alexis floored Money with a pinpoint left hook, still wobbly coming out for the second Mayweather was promptly dropped again with an uppercut. Floyd got himself together and survived the round and then began to slip and counter Arguello during the next three tight rounds.

Mayweather dominated the next five rounds with dazzling defense and speedy combos that had the Nicaraguan visibly frustrated. Alexis struck back late in round eleven with a crushing hook and he carried round twelve with hard right hands. Floyd slipped a right hand midway through the thirteenth and caught Alexis off balance with a check hook that put him down for a two count; more embarrassed than hurt Arguello marched into a right hand that dropped him again for a five count. The last two rounds were contested on even terms and the late knockdowns enabled Mayweather to escape with a MD. 143-140 x2 & 141-141

Alfredo Escalera 23-1 (16) vs Sandy Saddler 65-4-1 (53)

Real shame Arguello out, let's see who can stand up to Saddler?
