So no Beta? Not to be a pain, but this has been quite a tease. Is it "very soon" yet?

Well I know that Cubby was working on it today and we almost ran into a major issue with things, but fortunately he had backed up the file so it was not lost.

So are we getting a beta or not? Im very hopeful that one is released - that would be awesome. Also would give us players a chance to test out the ratings and adjust them etc. increasing the vaue of the final version

In all honesty my target date was 5/31. But ran into a couple of screwups on my part and through issues with testing. We are trying to get it out as soon as possible. I haven't played the game in over 2 1/2 months even though I have had it since February as I have been strictly working the rosters since April 1st.

I can't believe the patience of these guys. If I had people posting the same stuff over and over (are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet?) I'd say f*** it and go on vacation for a month.

Jeez, RELAX people. It'll be done, or there will be a beta, when they post on here that they're done. Asking doesn't make it go faster.

No offense, but this game isn't the same without real rostrs. Yes you can import rosters but have you simulated with them yet? I really admire what cubby and the guys are doing, heck its a heck of a feat to do this for free (which I am also willing to donate for the rosters) but I think there needs to be some sort of time table set. This would get rid of the "are we there yet" posts.
Just my 2 cents, thanks to cubby and the guys for doing this again.

When it's done, it'll get released. It's not going to be done any sooner because people keep asking for a timeline. There doesn't need to be anything set. These rosters don't even need to be done. They aren't being paid to do this. Enjoy the fact that you will get free rosters and just have some patience. All of you.

Thats not true. OOTP 6 averaging something like an 88 at gamerankings. Thats a stupendously great score better than Madden which sells millions.

About the rosters. Are they just a set of files like the Lahman data. Because my computer hangs when I try to import Lahman data so I dont know if these would. But all I really want is 2006 rosters so Im wondering maybe the "rosters" arent just text files. Like can I get it in a "saved game" form that I just load?

You won't have to import like that. More than likely it will be in a zip file...which will contain one folder that is a .lg folder. Inside that folder will be all the dat files for the league. All you will have to do is place that folder in your OOTP 2006 saved games folder (inside the data folder). Its pretty much the same process one goes through when they download a league file for online leagues.

If for whatever reason they just put the raw .dat files in the zip without a .lg folder...than you just create a new folder in the data/saved games folder, rename it what you want and put the .lg extension at the end of the name. Once you have the .lg folder....you just unzip the contents of the download into you new .lg folder.

I see what you're saying; and I agree to a certain degree. However, we've been hearing for the past few ngihts that we'd have an update on progress, an ETA, or a possible BETA being released sometime this week. In fact, we were told earlier that we should see it by this weekend.

I understand and enjoyn they amazing effort being put forth. However, the gameplay is amplified by 10000x with the real rosters. Furthermore, there is no legit alternate as the engine simply does not translate from 6.5 to this one. Therefore, in the interest of the community a Beta makes perfect sense.

Finally, the two guys working on it are saying they are running into bugs and slight errors. If a BETA is released, these guys get much more people playing the sets and seeing whats going on. Also, can help adjust anything as needed.

In closing, I can't comprehend why a Beta isnt released considering MLB/AAA/AA is ready to roll. Us gamers can work out any problems with these levels (and knowing the work of these guys, I doubt there are many)

Lahman 5.3

To ease the pain while we wait for the new update. I have uploaded the Lahman 5.3 2005 database with all the nice MLB logo's from other various websites. Yeah it's fun and I should say it's realistic to a degree. I'm enjoying the game. Yes there are other things missing like real Managers and Coaches and Finances.

I'm very eager to play the Cuby Rosters but knowing how much time and effort this guy is putting into it ain't going to be a quick thing. Just look at the stats he has to put in. I'm enjoying the updated Lahman 5.3 DB with Player photo's etc. Give it a try, who know's maybe it will be better than what we might get from Cubby. Always make sure you look on both sides of the fence.

regards

CTCHW.

They are doing a helluva favor for everyone, but when they say the release date will be about 5/31, and it's nearing the end of June, and we're not there yet, it gets kind of frustrating. I expect great work done, and I'm sure we will get it, it's just kind of frustrating for new leagues that were going to start up a few weeks ago now have to keep waiting. Plus, I've had the game since June 1st, and I've barely been able to play it because without real players, most of the fun is gone.

I obviously respect them for this, but it would be nice to get a timeframe (aka a few hours, a few days, a week, a few weeks), so leagues know when everything will get underway.

I feel really guilty saying a negative word about the people doing this, bur it's just how I feel.

And thank you very much for putting forth all this hard work to make this happen.

They gave a timeframe - 5/31. And now all they get is complaining for not meeting it. If they put out anything and there are problems (and even if there aren't) then they'll be expected to answer to all of them. All of this is and would be a distraction from the final goal, a complete set.

If this isn't good enough, then take some of the other suggestions (Lahman 5.3 for 2005, etc) or be patient.

Saying you appreciate the effort, then not showing it by harrassing the guys accomplishes nothing.

Meanwhile

I've been spending the time learning how to use the game by importing 6.5 version rosters. I'm having great fun, even if it is suboptimal that way.

Just relax, folks. You don't serve yourself well when you skewer volunteers. If you want to complain, go do it yourself instead.

So true....

I've spending my time playing around with the new editor. I like it so much more than the editor in OOTP 6.5 which always acting weird for me. I'm having a blast editing the players on the teams in my division (NL East). I'll still go with their roster set as I'm sure it will be more detailed than what have.
