If you can find a billy goat or one of Bartmen's descendants, I think you might have a great shot!

10/15/2051 - Division Series Game 1
The recently extended Francisco Rojas was the Game 1 starter for the Conquistadors, and he really pitched well enough to win the game. Through six innings Rojas allowed 3 runs on 8 hits while striking out 6 and walking 1. He got into a couple of jams, but was able to limit the damage.
Unfortunately hits would be at a premium for our offense, and Rojas exited the game with Mexico City trailing 3-1 with our only run coming on a solo homer by David Noble. Our bullpen would do their job today with Angelo Jimenez pitching two scoreless innings and Derin Terry pitching a hitless ninth. But our offense just couldn't get anything going and we lost Game 1 to the Cubs 3-1. |

I hate to stop in the middle of the series, but had a family emergency come up today so it's going to be a few days before I resume the series.

10/16/2051 - Division Series Game 2
Last year after going 18-7 with a 2.29 ERA during the regular season Dan Hendricks was the odd man out in the playoffs and moved to the bullpen. This year after going 15-8 with a 2.53 ERA Hendricks was our Game 2 starter. Our first round pick of the 2047 draft made it worth the wait with eight innings of three hit shutout baseball. Hendricks didn't walk a batter while striking out 3. (Side note, and I don't know why this clicked, but it's a little ironic that the Hendricks name has played such a major part of my tenure with Mexico City. Shawn Hendricks was one of my first free agent signings, and part of a big trade - http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ml#post3961786 It's funny how things work out, but that trade I was real high on Jamie Ramirez, with Shufflebottom being next, and Francisco Rojas a thrown in reliever. Five years later you could flip that order with Rojas our ace, Shufflebottom a strong #3, and Ramirez pitching out of the pen as the prospect that never really developed.) But back to today's game and Hendricks was staked to a 3-0 lead compliments of a 3 run homer by Julio Sanchez. The Conquistadors would pile on four more runs and we rolled to a 7-0 victory to even up the Division Series. |

10/18/2051 - Division Series Game 3
A three run homer by Julian Alonzo gave Mexico City an early 3-0 lead in the top of the second, but Vic Shufflebottom quickly surrendered 3 runs in the bottom of the second to the Cubs to tie the game. After a disappointing Game 1 performance by our offense they've come alive though, with Gordon Stewart hitting a 3 run homer in the top of the fourth with Antonio Garcia adding an RBI single to give us a 7-3 lead. Shufflebottom wouldn't give up another run and exit after six innings after allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while walking 2 and striking out 3. Our bullpen would take over with Claudio Gonzalez pitching a scoreless seventh and Brian Mewhinney pitching a pair of innings and giving up an unearned run. We added two insurance runs in the eighth as the Conquistadors roll 9-4 to take a 2 games to 1 series lead. |

10/19/2051 - Division Series Game 4
Our offense scored first in the top of the third when Jesus Parra picked up a one out single, moved to second on a single by Antonio Garcia, stole third base, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Manuel Gallegos. Garcia would then score on a single by Antonio Rodriguez and we were quickly up 2-0. A solo home run by Fernando Ramos in the fourth would give us a 3-0 lead, but the Cubs answered in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run of their own by Francisco Perez. Francisco Rojas would run into trouble in the bottom of the fifth when he allowed a triple and homer to Joel Locke as the Cubs tied the game, and an RBI double later in the inning would give the Cubs a 4-3 lead. That would be the last run that Rojas allowed and he left the game after six innings allowing the 4 runs on 6 hits with no walks and 5 strikeouts. Our bats grew silent though in the loss, although Dale Blevins would pitch two hitless innings of relief. The series is now tied at 2 games apiece. |

10/20/2051 - Division Series Game 5
With the series tied at two games apiece 24 year old Andrew Shockey was making his playoff debut today and would leave the game after six innings while allowing 2 runs on 7 hits. Shockey walked just one batter and struck out 2. Mexico City would score our first run in the top of the fourth, but it would be a potentially costly one. Manuel Gallegos would hit a leadoff double, and then leave the game with an injury. Pinch runner David Sandoval would score on a double by Fernando Ramos and we'll wait for news on the injury to Gallegos. We'd tie the game in the sixth without picking up a hit. Gordon Stewart, David Noble, and Julio Sanchez would all walk, with Fernando Ramos being hit by a pitch. With the game tied at 2 it came down to a battle of the bullpens, and Dale Blevins would pitch a scoreless seventh with Brian Mewhinney, Claudio Gonzalez, and Angelo Jimenez all retiring a batter in the eighth. Jesus Parra would pick up an RBI single in the eighth to give us a 3-2 lead, while Julio Sanchez would drive in our fourth run of the game with an RBI single. That left it up to Derin Terry to pitch a scoreless ninth to earn the save, with Blevins earning the win. Mexico City now takes a 3-2 lead back home in the Division Series. |
