We could play Argentina in the quarters if by chance we got past Netherlands.

The final 10 minutes plus 9 of stoppage was quite nerve-wracking. I thought USA did a decent job on D, but not so good at maintaining possession to run the clock... Shaq Moore in particular made a couple of decisions that were just mind-numbingly bad. And as I recall, he was a late sub, so fatigue should not be an excuse.
At any rate, sounds like both Pusilic and Sergeant are doubtful for Netherlands. That's less than ideal... 10 am start time - 7 am on the west coast - on Saturday is absurd. I'd think they'd want maximum viewership. I guess not. But then again, international sports organizations are not known for being all that sharp

I'd ask you whether you're fun at parties, but more and more I get the idea that parties are the thing you call the police on.
Or the homeowners association.

538.com gives the US a 34% chance to beat Netherlands on Saturday.

Not at all insinuating that it should be, nor do I see why one would think that I am. Rather, I'm thinking the start times for all games should take into best consideration the viewership of the countries involved. Whatever gets the most eyes on the games should be first and foremost. Well, that and making sure the local start times are reasonable for the players, of course.
IOW, I wouldn't think that a good chunk of England, for example, should be subjected to a 7 am start time. But I get that the start times are set ahead of time. Shouldn't be that way, IMO. Some flexibility to maximize viewership would seem to be common sense. Finally, and I don't know if applies here, but I'd counter that "the Eastern time zone is not the center of the U.S."

Yep, I get it. Seems to me the Olympics do a better job of trying to maximize viewership for the involved countries. Don't know why the same wouldn't be true for da World Cup.

I agree. This is a little higher than I would have thought.
If Pusilic is out, and Sergeant as well, then this number is likely too high. OK...Pusilic has a "pelvic contusion", and is day to day. Last edited by dsvitak; 11-29-2022 at 07:46 PM. |

FWIW, Pulisic posted from the hospital that he'll be ready to go on Saturday... FWIW.

Well, here's hoping. He probably won't play all 90 minutes I would guess regardless.

Besides, how many people in the US are watching the WC? Not a single person I know or work with watches soccer. About half the people I've talked to didn't even know the games were being played. |

That's like comparing Game of Thrones to Friends reruns. The olympics needs all the help it can get.
