2026 - Report #1
The 2026 MLB season opened up today and the buzz around the world kept growing as more international teams field baseball teams.
The highlight of the day was 5 time Cy Young award winner Noodles pitching a masterful 1 hit shutout at home against the Barcelona Magicians. Hahn who won 25 games in 2025, fanned 12 and only allowed a first inning single to Harmon Killebrew who was making his Barclona debut after 7 seasons with the Minnesota Twins. Killer said this "Utah eliminated Minnesota last year at the same ballpark, so I sign 7000 miles away with a team from Spain and still open up in Salt Lake and have to see that pitcher again... not fun" Utah got 2 hits and 2 RBI's from Matt Chapman and 2 hits from Yoan Moncada in his Utah debut. The Branson Jackals got bad news on pitcher Cal Quantrill who has been out a while and now will be out another 6 months with his torn UCL. Branson was counting on Quantrill to be in the rotation by late April and now his season is lost again. |

2026 - Report #2
The season is underway and the news has actually been slow considering there are 168 teams to deal with. There are some injuries and announced retirements of note
The Shreveport Sting announced today that reliever Aaron Fultz will retire at the end of the season at 36 years old Fultz has appeared in 328 career games mostly with the Kansas City Royals from 2019-2023. Fultz has appeared in two games so far this year for Shreveport. He is happy to finish his career in the south instead of Rome, Italy where he played last season Retirement news out of Maui, as pitcher RA Dickey will call it a career this year for the Maui Lobos. Dickey is 36 years old and feels that his knuckles are worn out. Dickey has a 21-68 career record and because of expansion has lengthened his career. He has played for a lot of teams, but most notably the Albuquerque Blackbirds from 2021-2023. He has not even thrown a single pitch in Maui yet but said this is the end. The Athens Odyssey are in their first season and they have already lost a player for the season. Rookie reliever and 9th round pick Brian Eversgerd is out for 5 months with a torn back muscle. He suffered the injury in a hard fought 2-1 extra inning loss to the Seattle Mariners on the road. It was bittersweet for Eversgerd as he was so excited to start his big league career with a team from Greece playing in Seattle, not too far where he grew up in Centralia. Trent Thornton won 19 games in 2025 for the Kansas City Royals but his 2026 season has already ended. He damaged his elbow ligaments on the road in an 11-3 beating by the Branson Jackals. Thornton lasted one inning and 16 pitches before complaining of pain. Royals will promote Lowell Palmer to take his spot in the rotation which is not comforting for Kansas City fans. In other injury news, the New York Mets have lost the service of 3B Bill Joyce for 7 weeks with a fractured ulna. Joyce is a solid bat in the Mets lineup with 90 homers over the past 3 seasons. Injury was in a dramatic game at Citifield against the Los Angeles Dodgers where Danny Coombs hit Joyce with the pitch with the game tied at 3-3, so probably not intentional. Next batter up is the man of dramatics, Bobby Thomson and he hits a walk off 3 run homer off Coombs to give the Mets the walkoff win. It appears Jared Sandberg will play 3rd base with Joyce out. |
