We always say that catching is the fastest route to the majors, but Frank Hunsaker would scoff at that. From 1978-1980, he made six separate stops in the Cardinal chain (A/AA/AAA) and never hit less than .324 at any of them. Okay, mostly just a singles hitter, but come on…he's a catcher, that's easily enough offense. But he never got a sniff. Thanks for nothing, Ted Simmons/Terry Kennedy!
In the game, the Yankees (of course) signed Simmons, the Cards traded Kennedy to the Cubs (as mentioned) and then revenge-FA signing Rick Cerone strained his PCL. So waiver claim Barry Foote has the job now, and Frank's getting his chance to play backup. He's only hitting .353 in the Show, though, so who knows how long he'll last? At least he got invited to Spring Training once, if his Twitter pic is any clue. |

His defense on my import looked exceptional. Indeed, singles will do it. Another one to root for... and if not, I hear wealth management is the way to go...

Finally Grown-Up?
Bobby Miscik is known as ""Bob" now that he's moved from playing to being a minor-league manager and roving instructor, but he's still a "baseball lifer" as one profile had it.
He spent six years at AAA, not exactly burning things up (OPS usually in the 700s, high of .811 at Hawai'i in 1985) but doing well enough for a middle infielder that you'd think he might at least get a cup of coffee sometime. No such luck, though. |

You didn't mention which organization he was in, but here's Bobby Miscik hoping he's caught the eye of your Rangers for his ticket to The Show.

Oh, sorry. Miscik's a Pirate, looking to pick up some of the ABs from the trade of Mike Barnes. (Dale Berra was called up for September, so we'll see how that affects things.)
Texas is pretty crowded at 2B; Bump Wills still has the job, and when the Phillies inexplicably put Manny Trillo on the trade block, I scooped him up. (Manny kept begging me for an extension, and when he stepped in as a regular when Bump went down with an injury, I decided to see if he'd take a reduced salary to stay. Before we could ever discuss money, he said he couldn't get along with Pat Corrales and was no longer interested. Sheesh.) Behind that, there's Frank White, who I got on a minor league deal when I realized KC had dumped him, and then there's Nick Capra and Mike Richardt at Wichita. (And Wally Backman, but he's playing SS.) So you see why I gave Bobby a Miscik. Another new Pirate is reserve catcher Alfredo Torres, who IRL kept having good seasons at AA Buffalo, but never got a full look at AAA, much less a sniff up top. Better luck this time, Al. |

Presenting Alfredo Torres as part of the "Family". Not just a catcher either, AI gives him credit in RF for all the OF time he spent in the minors. Here's hoping Alfredo gets his moment to shine...

Glen Franklin was the Expos' #1 pick in 1978, #9 overall. (#12 was Kirk Gibson. Just saying.) By 1981, he'd been traded to Philly (for whom?) but not in the game. Here he's getting the shot he never got IRL, not even after posting that .877 for Indianapolis in 1983.
I grant you, the Expos have solved their DP problem, and the pairing of Tim Raines and Tony Phillips seems a vast improvement on Doug Flynn and Chris Speier, but still. It's nice to get a chance. I only hope the Montreal AI isn't giving Glen extra chances because they think he's "Caucasian", apparently: |

I'd forgotten Tim Raines began as a 2B. How very Mookie Betts of him. This was a tough one with the smile and the shadows... but I think it works. I think everyone looks good in the old Expos uniforms though. I always have them as one of my expansion teams - just to get the unis in the game
So without further ado, Glen Franklin...

Mr Landsdowne, thanks so much for what you're doing here, love having the facegens with some resemblance rather than fictionals.
Are you interested in improving some zombie facegens in my various saves? Most seem to be from almost pre-photographic times, but is there a way you can make them look less undead just from the current FG file and, if so, could I start sending them through when I come across them? Thanks G

No problem. I actually enjoy it so happy to contribute.
. Yes, by all means if there are facegens that could be improved or are missing, post the name and file and I can rework it and repost (or redo if I can find a better picture). I think the first one I did for this thread was reviving a zombie. I own the full facegen product and spent my quarantine making close to 3,000 facegens for a greatest of all time QuickStart I’m nearly done with. I’ve got a handle on all the sliders the software has at this point. So by all means, post away!

The AT QuickStart project sounds great - I'm doing one called the Paragon Baseball League (see my sig) that I created from scratch and it's loads of fun. EDIT Ignore the noob question, I Googled it and see it is a whole separate thing.

The software is actually called Facegen. There is a free version that allows less customization tools and puts a big watermark on the forehead. For OOTP, the watermark is a nonissue though because it’s under the hat. It’s just the lack of some of the other pay-version tools combined with imperfect pictures and face angles that cause most issues. Some is also practice. Having done so many, the practice definitely has made me better at it!

The facegen itself was fine in that it looks like his bRef picture, just needed to be properly colorized. So, here's Charlie Luskey. His family is thrilled he's returned from beyond, but looking at his stats, I don't think his manager or coaches have noticed a difference in performance from his formerly embalmed self...

Rick Ramos came from a baseball family; his father, Rich, had played in the ChiSox system, and Mark Grant is his cousin. He may have left his fastball in West Palm Beach (K rate never as high once he graduated A-ball), but he put in 4 workmanlike years at AAA (anytime you keep the ERA under 5.00 at Denver, it's a win, IMO) and was probably disappointed he never took that last step.
Here, the Expos have their usual colossal September lead, so why not? |

I can't begin to tell you how much I wanted to make the picture with the glasses work... but the result was the stuff of nightmares. It's a shame, a Lee Meadows or Darrell Porter and some others all can look good when the facegen incorporates the glasses. Except Kent Tekulve. The sunglasses are tough. Someone needs to make a layer in the game the way facial hair is for beards so various eyewear can be put on players. Anyway, using the other photo, here's Rick Ramos in the Expos garb of the 90s...

Ramos hopes he makes it to the 1990s, lol.
Another September Expos arm is the pride of Del City OK, Tommy Joe Shimp. IRL, Tommy Joe was getting completely blasted at both AA Memphis and AAA Denver, so it's no wonder he didn't get a call. His other years as a Chick ('80, '82-'83) were just fine, and he even eventually mastered AAA hitters, in 1985 at Oklahoma City. (Home state advantage?) But of course he was 28 by then, so… |

"Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. There's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, Tommy Joe Shimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it."

If you had fun with Shimp's name, I'm scared to think where this final Expo arm might lead you…
Bud Yanus had 2.5 good seasons at Memphis, but never got to AAA, much less higher. When sent back to Chick things out yet again in 1983, he lost his skills, and thus ended his Bud-ding career. |
