Bout 254 - Zora Folley versus James “Quick” Tillis
Round 12 Commentary
Both fighters look determined as the final round gets underway. Manny Seamon knows Folley lost that last round, but he took the positive approach between rounds. Folley probably needs a knockout here in the 12th to win this fight though. Quick efficient work in the corner of Folley has the cut on the bridge of nose under control. Tillis tastes Folley's jab. That follow-up hook from Folley has some power behind it! Folley scores with a cross, though it did not land flush. Folley seems to have shaken off the cobwebs after his trip to the deck last round. Tillis takes a sizzling combination flush to the chin and drops to his hands and knees!!! Ritter begins the count over Tillis as Folley moves to a neutral corner … Tillis is making a gallant try to get off the canvas as the count reaches 5. At 9, Tillis is back on his feet and indicates he is fine to Ritter. Ritter checks Tillis closely and will allow the fight to continue. Bout 255 - George Foreman versus Pinklon Thomas
Round 12 Commentary
The bell sounds for the 12th and final round of this fight. Thomas's corner has done a great job on his swelling. They've got it under control, at least for now. There's a combination of punches from Foreman that score big. Foreman lands the uppercut but there wasn't much on it. Foreman and Thomas grab a quick breather. Thomas ducks into an uppercut from Foreman. Thomas takes a tremendous hook to the jaw! Thomas seems bothered by the increased swelling around the left eye. That’s a nice combination to the body by Thomas. Foreman just landed a three-punch combo! It looks like Thomas is hurt after taking those shots! Foreman drives that short hook into Pinklon Thomas's midsection! Thomas is clutching his side! Foreman lands a crushing uppercut! Foreman has this fight under control. That's it. Bout 256 - Bob Foster versus Ernie Terrell
Round 12 Commentary
As the bell sounds for the final round, it looks as if the scorecards will determine the outcome of this fight. Terrell got quite a pep talk in his corner; we'll see if Freddie Brown's instructions work. The swelling on the face of Terrell is noticeable, even at a distance. Foster hooks off the jab and scores to the body or Ernie Terrell. Foster moves in and connects with a compact uppercut to the head. Now Terrell has Foster trapped in the lower neutral corner ... Terrell pummels Bob Foster, capping off his assault with a stiff uppercut! Foster connects with a violent hook! Terrell's left eye is becoming a cause of major concern as it continues swell. Bob Foster scores with a hook to the side of the head. The fighters are now trading punches and neither seems to have won that exchange. Round 1 Commentary
That's the bell, summoning the two fighters to begin trading punches here in the first. Frazier connects with a hard left hook to the jaw. Frazier moves in at an angle, trying to cut off the ring on Tate. That cross from Frazier lands with some authority! That right hand of Joe Frazier's definitely packs a wallop and that one landed flush!! That blow connected solidly to the head of John Tate and he is stunned! Frazier just absorbed a terrifying shot to the body. Tate shoots the jab. He doubles up on it and the second one carried some power with it. Frazier lands a solid hook! Frazier lands a powerful combination right on the button! Tate is trying to regroup after those punches ... Oh! Frazier just landed a horrific right to the head of Tate! Fury looks a bit disgusted as Round 10 gets underway. Spinks got quite a pep talk in his corner; we'll see if Eddie Futch's instructions work. The swelling on the face Fury looks slightly less severe, thanks to a great job by his corner man. Spinks is flicking the jab, trying to keep Fury at long range. Spinks lands a series of hooks to the ribs of Fury. Tom Yankello implored Fury to stay busy, but Tyson Fury's mind seems elsewhere. Wow! That shot landed like a lightning bolt! Fury is down on his back! Referee Pabon stands over Fury and begins the count ... 10! That's a ten count! Fury is out cold here in round 10! Round 8 Commentary
The bell sounds to start Round 8. Emanuel Steward was extremely upbeat during the break with Spinks providing some solid encouragement. However, a minute wasn't enough to eliminate or even significantly reduce Spinks's swelling. Spinks scores with a cross, though it did not land flush. Leon Spinks is staying at the center of the ring. Spinks drops the right-hand flush on Golota's chin! Golota is suddenly in trouble! Spinks lands a stinging jab. Golota shoots the right home. That's a sneaky punch. Spinks scores with a glancing cross. Some good body work by Spinks, landing several short blows to the ribs. Spinks has Golota blocked in! Spinks just comes up short with the jab. A beautiful cross to the chin by Golota sends Spinks to the canvas! Referee Green picks up the count from the timekeeper ... Bout 260 - Larry Holmes versus Renaldo Snipes
Round 12 Commentary
The crowd would like to see a knockout as the bell sounds for Round 12, the final round of the fight. A minute wasn't enough to eliminate or even significantly reduce Snipes's swelling. Snipes pins Holmes's arms. Now they move apart. The referee is cautioning Snipes about leaning on the neck of his opponent. A short hook to the head by Holmes. Snipes gives a nice head fake and then lands a hook to the head of Holmes. Holmes eats a jab from Snipes. Holmes flicks three quick jabs and at least one got through. Snipes drills Holmes with a solid jab. Holmes appears to have this fight under control. The final seconds of Round 12 expire and this bout is going to go to the scorecards ... Bout 261 - Evander Holyfield versus James “Bonecrusher” Smith
Round 8 Commentary
Both fighters look ready to go as Round 8 begins. Smith traps Holyfield in the corner! There is a lot less action than we anticipated from these two in this round. Holyfield is clinching ... Smith is trying to free his gloves ... They are under Holyfield's arms ... Holyfield pushes Smith away. The action is back in the center of the ring. Holyfield takes a heavy combination downstairs. Holyfield was shaken by those blows! Smith moves into a neutral corner. Holyfield connects with a vicious uppercut! Holyfield has Smith in trouble, he is hurt and trying to hang on!! Holyfield lands a devastating cross! Both fighters move back to ring center. Holyfield finds a home for that debilitating hook. It looks like Holyfield has reopened Smith's previous wound because Smith is now bleeding once again. The cut on Smith's left eyelid has been reopened and it's bleeding as heavily now as it was originally. Referee Garry is taking a close look at the blood trickling down Smith's face; and now he steps in and stops the contest. He wants the doctor to take a look at the damage done to Smith's face, especially the cut above the eye. There doesn't seem to be any doubt that cut was caused by the accidental head butt in Round 2. "Ingo" buries a hook followed by an uppercut to the midsection of Shavers! Shavers drives home a wicked hook to the midsection! That was a violent straight right by Johansson! Shavers takes a tremendous hook to the jaw! Johansson tastes Shavers's jab. Johansson lands a powerful uppercut right on the button! A cross from Johansson lands with some power. A big uppercut from Shavers lands with serious impact! That blow connected solidly to the head of Johansson and he is stunned! And Shavers lands a vicious cross and down goes Johansson! Both fighters look ready to go as Round 10 begins. The swelling on the face of Charles is noticeable, even at a distance. Charles finds an opening in Vitali Klitschko's defense and exploits it with a hard uppercut. Yank Durham seemed to pump up Charles between rounds. Ezzard Charles has Klitschko trapped in the right neutral corner ... Charles just landed a short, clean hook that caught Klitschko flush. Klitschko dropped like he'd been shot! Charles is ushered to a neutral corner by Ref Krupenich and the count begins ... The count reaches 5 as Klitschko is struggling to climb off the deck. At 6, Klitschko is back up as Krupenich counts off the mandatory 8. Klitschko tells the ref that he can still fight. Krupenich must agree as he signals for the fight to go on. Charles lands a strong uppercut! They are back in the center of the ring once again Klitschko takes a heavy uppercut downstairs. Klitschko looks to be in excellent shape as Round 6 gets underway. Ruddock's corner didn't ignore the swelling he's suffered so far in this bout. The fighters jockey for position as they both try to gain the advantage here in the 6th. Donovan Ruddock takes a sizzling hook flush to the chin and drops to his hands and knees!!! The count begins ... At 8, Ruddock still looks shaky after getting up from the knockdown and Alonso is taking a long look at him. Alonso is allowing the fight to continue. Ruddock looks real shaken to us, however. Donovan Ruddock is trapped in Klitschko's corner ... There's a right cross from Klitschko that lands flush. Ruddock is in trouble. Round 7 Commentary
The bell starts the action as Lewis and Quarry leave their corners. Lewis received a pep talk from Jeff Fenech before he left his corner; we'll see if it worked. Quarry's corner is an experienced crew but the swelling he's suffered looks almost as bad as it did before the minute break. Quarry slides into a neutral corner... Lewis really packs a wallop and he just landed a brutal shot to the body! Lewis takes a tremendous hook to the jaw! Lewis moves Quarry back and scores with a hook. That was a violent straight right by Lewis! At least two of those shots really hurt Quarry! A crisp jab from Lewis connects to the jaw of Quarry. The increased swelling around the right eye of Quarry is fast becoming a hindrance. Lennox "The Lion" Lewis shoots a vicious cross right down the pipe and catches Quarry flush! Quarry was stopped cold by that punch and he is staggering across the ring! Lewis throws a wild overhand right that lands flush! Jerry Quarry drops to one knee and will take the count! Ref Moore stands over Jerry Quarry and begins counting ... Quarry lurches to his feet at the count of 5 but he stumbles and is down on his knees again. He's making another effort! At 7, Quarry struggles to regain his feet, but still looks hurt as he takes the mandatory 8 count. Moore asks Quarry if he wants to continue... He nods that he can. Lewis scores with a rapid-fire combination. Lewis stuns Quarry again. Lewis is firing shot after shot at a defenseless Quarry! Quarry's corner looks like they are ready to throw in the towel! Liston traps Patterson in the corner! Liston throws punches in bunches and that's the way to disrupt your opponent's rhythm. Patterson retreats to his opponents’ corner ... A beautiful uppercut to the chin sends Patterson to the canvas! Referee Podgorski motions Liston to a neutral corner and starts the count ... At 6, Patterson gets back up but he looks badly shaken. He'll take the mandatory 8 and we'll find out if he can continue! The fight will go on as Podgorski deems Floyd Patterson is fit to conitnue. Liston has Patterson pinned! Floyd Patterson goes down!! The bell sounds for the last round of the bout. Louis is showing very little fatigue at this stage of the fight. Louis is showing some fancy footwork tonight as he moves around Page. Referee Morton is prodding both men to mix it up as the action has really slowed. Louis just landed a devastating three punch combo! Louis has Page trapped in the lower neutral corner... Joe Louis winds up and lands a nasty hook to Page's body. A sizzling cross from Louis finds its mark. That hook to the body from Joe Louis had some power behind it. This is a very close fight and the winner of this Round could win the fight too! Norton has Lyle pinned! Norton lands a jab to Lyle's midsection. Lyle pummels Norton, capping off his assault with a stiff cross! Lyle misses with that punch. Norton lands a hook to head, then just misses with a follow up cross. Bout 271 - Ray Mercer versus Archie Moore
Round 12 Commentary
As the bell sounds for the final round, it looks as if the scorecards will determine the outcome of this fight. Archie Moore is protecting the body nicely as Mercer fails to score inside. Archie Moore presses the attack, landing a crisp uppercut inside. Moore takes a hard combination from Mercer. Moore misses with a hook. Mercer misses as Moore backpedals away. Moore lands a double left, one to the head and one to the body. Mercer bangs away with both hands and a nice uppercut finds a home. Moore finds a home for his jab, keeping Mercer at bay. Moore just needs to stay away from Mercer now as he seems to have won this fight! The final round concludes and we're going to have to await a decision to find out who won this contest. The bell sounds for the last round of the bout. Young is showing very little fatigue at this stage of the fight. Young fakes downstairs, then lands two quick blows to the head. Young lands a nice cross but Mildenberger turned with it, absorbing most of its power. And now Mildenberger pummels Young, capping off his assault with a stiff jab! Mildenberger scores with a punch that's part uppercut, part hook! Mildenberger throws another good combination that temporarily slows Young. Young ducks into an uppercut from Mildenberger.
