Doc Medich continues to be the bane of Toronto hitters. This time they fell 3-1 to the Mariners despite a well pitched game by Jim Clancy. WP - Doc Medich (16-13) LP - Jim Clancy (7-7) Record - 77-60 The Tigers also lost so the Jays keep pace at 2.5 GB. |

The Hero of the day would be Champ Summers he hit one out in the top of the 9th to force extra innings. The Goat would be a tie between Dennis DeBarr who walked three straight to lead off the bottom of the 11th and Dale Ryan who then muffed a simple ground ball to allow the winning run. There is some concern as Biff Pocoroba left the game with an injury. WP - Bill Campbell (8-5) LP - Dennis DeBarr (4-2) Record - 79-61 Tigers win. Jays back to 2.5 back. |

Biff Pocoroba will be out for about 3 weeks. With the september call-ups, the fill-in catcher is already up.
Then the Tigers won while Toronto had an off day. The Jays are down by 3 and Detroit's magic number is 19. Toronto has 21 games left. Last edited by rpriske; 06-11-2013 at 06:14 PM. |

Another extra inning game but this time Matt Robinson put one in the bleachers in the top of the 10th to grab the 3-2 win for the Jays over Cleveland. WP - Dave Hamilton (1-3) Save - Mark Clear (28) LP - Dennis Eckersley (13-16) Record - 80-61 Still back by 3 as the Tigers are on a 4 game winning streak. |

Vincent O'Duane's first big league homer gave the Jays the lead and Mike Parrott and Mark Clear made sure it held up as the Jays beat the Indians 4-3. WP - Mike Parrott (15-12) Save - Mark Clear (29) LP - John Henry Johnson (4-7) Record - 81-61 The Tigers have now won 5 in a row. Jays are still 3 back. |

In a game that felt like no lead was ever safe, the Jays inched ahead of Cleveland 6-5. John Castino led the offense with a 4 for 5 day, with his 10th homer and 3 RBI. WP - Ed Whitson (14-6) Save - Donato Valle (1) LP - Dock Ellis (9-17) Record - 82-61 The Tigers winning streak went to 6 so the Jays are still back by 3, with the Detroit Magic Number sitting at 16. |

In a tight pennant race, the Blue Jays didn't show up to play today. Orioles won 12-3. Errors. Balks. Just a mess. WP - Rick Wise (9-12) LP - Santo Alcala (7-1) Record - 82-62 The Tigers have now won 7 in a row and the Jays are 4 back. |

Toronto trailed most of the game but an 8th inning push followed by a 3-up,3-down 9th for Mark Clear sealed the 4-3 win over Baltimore. WP - Rick Camp (5-0) Save - Mark Clear (30) LP - Don Sutton (14-19) Record - 83-62 Detroit's winning streak reached 8. Jays still back by 4. The Tigers' magic number is now 13. |

Mike Parrott pitched an exemplary game, allowing the Orioles only 1 run off 3 hits. Meanwhile the Toronto offense absolutely exploded, scoring 15 times off 20 hits. John Castino led the way, going 5 for 6 with a homer and 7 RBI. Champ Summers, Jerome Thomson and Skip McBeath all joined the homerun assault. WP - Mike Parrott (16-12) LP - Rich Wortham (10-16) Record - 84-62 BUT... the Tigers extended their win streak to 9. The Jays are still back by 4 and the Detroit magic number is 12. Things are starting to look bleak. It doesn't matter how many games Toronto wins if the Tigers never lose. |

At this point in the year, every game is crucial. Cleveland was coming off an 8 game losing streak. Toronto needed this win. They didn't get it. Sloppy play and a lack of timely hitting did them in. Indians win 5-2. WP - Dock Ellis (10-17) Save - Jim Kern (22) LP - Ed Whitson (14-7) Record - 84-63 Detroit extended their winning streak to 10. Toronto is back by 5 and the Tigers have a magic number of 10. I think the unexpected run is over. |
