Very fond memories of them

I believe I read somewhere here in the office the Yankees are valued at just a shade under 2 billion.
The Red Sox a shade under 1.5 billion, the Cubs just under that.

I believe the Cowboys were #1 in the NFL at something like 1.7 billion

Followed Grasshoppers for years ever since they were on a football highlights show, forgot who they played but it was pouring down and a mid week night game probably a European game, imo there is nothing better than a mid week night game when it's pouring down with rain.

Could you imagine what teams like Man Utd would be worth though if there were 300 million people living in England instead of around 60 million

Remember the Yankees carry no debt. Also, they own their own network YES. Steinbrenner bought them for $10 million. Man U are carrying roughly $200 mil in debt.

Times that borrowing debt by six and you're in the ballpark.

The difference between MUTV and YES Network is that Manchester United can't sell the signal to loads of different cable/satellite companies, and at a lot lower price because they don't have live games.

Sad thing is that the Glazers had the money to buy Man U straight out. In FM it says the team owes the debt to the owners which seems strange to me.

Their struggling with the debt, think it was last week or the week before were they restructured it again. Not for Man Utd couldn't care less about them but thing's like this makes me worried for football in general, it's like with Chelsea if Abramovich upped and left there is no way Chelsea can sustain the wages they pay without him.

Yep.
The restructured debt from the Glazer takeover to the banks is £660 million, or just over $1.2 billion.

Does Chelsea carry any debt?

I'd be worried about an economic downturn and a cancellation of media contracts. Its media money that enabling all the multimillion dollar contracts.

If you worked on what they bring in and what they spend I'd say Chelsea are in massive debt but thy have Abramovich so you could say there not in debt.

They must be having to make $750K a month payments at least... . Unless they are aiming for a strategic bankruptcy to eliminate some of those debts.

If and when Abramovich decides to leave, Chelsea will be screwed with a capital 'S' money wise.
If they can sell a player for four times less than what they bought him for (Damien Duff) you know a club has too much of a monetary pull.

Makes you wonder if he'll get bored if they win the Champions League because it seem's that's all the money is being spent for.

The Russians have never been to good at empire building.

Besides his own ego i wonder what could be driving Mr Abramovich to do what he does??
