Title Fights MW - (WBA) Just two months after losing his WBC title Frank Klaus (CH/7) (27-8-1) loses his WBA title also to Denny Harrington (10/CH) (19-2) (pre) by TKO6. Klaus was cut over the right eye in the 2nd and it was reopened twice before the ref called the fight. Klaus was in control after knocking down Harrington in the 5th. I had it 49-45 at the stoppage. This was in the first round of the WBA title tourney. Harrington moves to prime. Klaus had defended the WBA title 11 times. LW - (WBC) Young Griffo (CH) (41-9-7) (post) retained the WBC title with a UD15 over Jack Keenan (12/16) (21-5-2). It was a typical Griffo fight with no cuts or knockdowns. The judges scores were 144-142/145-142/144-142. It was Griffo's 5th defense of the title and also the first round of a title tourney Other fights MW - Joe Thomas (53/31) (20-8-5) SD10 Billy McCarthy (13/34) (33-17-4) 96-95 Thomas BW - Harry Harris (10/8) (22-2-1) UD10 Terry Edwards (18/22) (15-3-2) third straight loss for Edwards since winning the title MW - Les Darcy (18/14) (17-0) UD10 Bill Brooks (86/93) (15-6-1) 99-89 (both at pre) MW - Zulu Kid (UR) (5-0-1) UD8 Mick King (UR) (5-2) 76-74 (both at pre in this club fight) |

speaking of Sam Langford
January 4, 1913
Title Fights HW - (WBA/WBC/IBF) Sam Langford (CH) (37-6-2) put all three of his titles on the line and came away with a KO10 win over Joe Choynski (14/21) (37-12-2) (post). It was touch and go early when Joe dropped Langford in the 3rd. Langford turned it up then and dropped Choynski 3 times over the next 7 rounds. I had it 87-82 at the stoppage. For Langford, it was his 9th defense of the WBA title, 6th defense of both the WBC and the IBF. FLY - (CBU) Jimmy Wilde (3/1) (16-0) (pre) stopped Tancy Lee (UR) (8-1-1) (pre) in the 6th round to defend the CBU Fly title for the 6th time. Lee was hanging in the fight until a barrage late in the 6th put him out on the ropes and the ref stopped the fight. I had it 48-47 at the stoppage. Other Fights BW - Al Delmont (12/11) (27-12-3) MD10 Phil McGovern (53/56) (14-8-1) (mcgovern was at pre but turned to prime after the fight) LW - Herb McCoy (53/41) (19-3-2) UD10 Jim Mitchell (35/42) (27-24-5) (mccoy at pre, mitchell at post) MW - Johnny Douglas (25/26) (20-2-4) DRAW10 Jack Moffat (77/75) (14-16-4) 95-95 MW - Gus Platts (UR) (8-0-2) Draw8 Jack Blake (UR) (7-3-1) |

Title Fight BW - (IBF) Johnny Murphy (3/CH) (24-5-2) dropped the champ Harry Tenney (CH/7) (25-8-3) three times on the way to a KO11 win. Murphy takes the IBF BW title. It didn't look good for Murphy early as he was cut over the left eye in the2nd round. It was reopened 3 times with the ref stopping the action to have the doc look at it twice. He kept pounding away at the champ dropping Tenney in the 9th and twice in the 11th. I had it 97-92 Murphy at the stoppage. Title Tourney LW - (IBF first round) Dave Holly (5/4) (23-9-8) used his superior boxing skills to score a UD12 over Knockout Brown (13/15) (18-3-1). Brown took a beating trying for that one big shot. He was cut over both eyes and down in the 11th. Still the judges had it somewhat close with scores of 115-112/115-111/114-112. Other fights MW - Rube Ferns (25/17) (31-15-1) TKO10 Jim Carr (82/89) (12-10-3) (carr at pre, went to prime) Ferns scores 5 kd's in his first bout back from retirement FW - Tommy O'Toole (24/19) (18-5) MD10 Ole Oleson (68/76) (16-19-5) (O'Toole at pre, went to prime) MW - Johnny Wilson (UR) (13-0) SD10 Jack Fitzgerald (69/78) (12-15-1) 95-94 Wilson (wilson at pre) FLY - Earl Puryear (UR) (8-0-1) SD8 Curley Osborne (UR) (8-3) 78-76 Puryear (both at pre in this club fight) |

I'm moving at a decent pace right now but I'm glad I decided to add the 1940's and the 1970's because it is taking me forever to sim. Over 4 years in and I'm starting my 14th sim year.

Title Fight FW - (WBC) Cal McCarthy (CH) (27-6) made his 4th defense of the WBC FW title with a UD15 over Leo Johnson (13/23) (13-4-1). Johnson was overmatched from the start but stuck around. He started taking a beating late in the fight with a cut over his right eye and going down in the 15th. The final scorecards were 148-134/148-134/146-137. Title Tourney LW - (IBF-first round) Willie Ritchie (11/9) (23-4-4) scored a KO10 over Jack Everhardt (20/32) (18-10-4) to move onto the second round of the IBF LW title tourney. Everhardt was cut over the right eye in the first and hung tough until a blazing uppercut ended him in the 10th. Other fights HW - Tommy Dugan (60/33) (19-12) UD10 Colin Bell (19/34) (18-2) 95-93 (bell was at pre but moved to prime) snapped 17 fight win streak for Bell WW - Wlademar Holberg (66/38) (14-8) TKO5 Wildcat Ferns (11/37) (22-9) tough loss for Ferns LH - Jim Jeffords (25/16) (21-16-1) SD10 Joe Butler (7/17) (35-10-3) not exactly the grand return Butler was hoping for FW - Gil Goulette (club) (15-22-1) UD8 Steve Sullivan (UR) (8-2-1) (sullivan at pre in this club fight) |

The beating Johnson took in the title fight has led to a new rule in the LBA. (Starting in Feb.)
All losers from stoppages (non TC's) will roll and have a 5% chance of a drastic effect. If they roll the 5% then they roll again and use the following chart 1-5 = Dead 6-15 = forced retirement 16-30 = resistent to cuts +1 31-45 = absorb punishment +1 46-65 = KO + 1 66-85 = KD + 1 86-100 = nothing |

Title Fight LW - (WBO) Willie Fitzgerald (CH) (24-2-4) scored a TKO14 over George McFadden (28/34) (19-13-3) for his first defense of the WBO LW title. With a lot of top ranked fighters tied up in tourneys Fitz faced a lower ranked opponent. McFadden was not that much lower rated but was dominated anyways. McFadden's eye started swelling in the 3rd and it kept getting worse. Finally the fight was stopped when it was completely closed. I had it 127-119 at the stoppage. Title Tourney LHW - (WBC-first round) Charles McCoy (7/6) (35-11-4) fought to a DRAW12 with Leo Houck (8/8) (30-13-4). McCoy was cut over his right eye in the 9th but it was a pretty uneventful fight otherwise. They will do it again in March. Houck has to win because McCoy is higher seeded and another draw will advance McCoy. The judges had it 116-116/116-114/115-115. Other fights BW - Jimmy Gorman (18/16) (23-3-1) TKO8 Jimmy Anthony (46/50) (14-10-5) WW - Jack Blackburn (2/2) (34-13-6) UD10 Perry Queenan (74/75) (9-10-3) Blackburn's WW debut LH - Larry Williams (UR) (11-0) MD10 Sailor Charles Brown (60/61) (14-11-2) 96-94 (williams at pre) LW - Jake Karcher (UR) (12-0) KO2 Irish Jack Smith (121/club) (11-16) 9-10 (karcher at pre) Smith drops to club |

I had it 137-130 at the stoppage. Johnson said after the fight that Langford is avoiding him. Johnson said they have made numerous offers to Langford to unify the titles. Title Tourney FW - (WBO-first round) Jem Driscoll (3/3) (46-8-1) (post) scored a UD12 over Billy Snailham (16/22) (22-9) to advance to the second round of the WBO FW title tourney. Title Tourney LH - (WBC-first round) Frank Girton (4/3) (17-3) continued to impress with a MD12 over Battling Levinsky (12/17) (17-2) (pre) to advance to the second round of the WBC title tourney. There were no knockdowns or cuts but Girton controlled the action. The scores were 114-113/114-114/115-114. Other Fights FW - Ben Jordan (47/39) (19-7-4) KO4 Kid Julian (37/45) (11-4-1) (Julian at pre) WW - Harry Lyons (13/11) (37-20-1) MD10 Charles Gleason (30/34) (19-5) 96-93 Lyons down in his first WW bout HW - John Dwyer (63/52) (33-14-1) KO1 Jack Fitzgerald (123/130) (11-6-1) (fitz at pre) LW - Benny Leonard (UR) (9-0) UD8 Mark Higgans (club) (4-16-3) 80-72 (leonard at pre in this club fight) Lyons 58 fights is the most by any fighter in the LBA ... Title fights MW - (IBF) Mike Gibbons (CH) (23-0) remained undefeated with a TKO14 over Tom Norton (21/26) (18-4). Gibbons dominated Norton and then stopped him. Both of Norton's eyes were swollen shut and a cut over his right eye had been reopened 4 times. I had it 129-118. Gibbons is 3 wins away from tying Jack Dillon for 3rd spot on the all-time winning streak list. HW - (ROW) George Rodel (UR) (9-1-1) (pre) scored a UD12 over James Couper (117/127) (12-7-3) (pre) to win the ROW HW title. An exciting match which saw both fighters down. Couper was down in the 1st and the 8th, while Rodel was down in the 5th. Rodel won the last half of the fight to score 115-109 on all three cards. Other fights WW - Joe Walcott (17/14) (29-17-7) MD10 Billy Myer (15/17) (35-11-4) 98-94 FW - Will Curley (24-12-3) UD10 Eddie Lenny (34/42) (18-11-5) HW - Jack Howard (UR) (11-0) KO9 Jack Langley (127/137) (9-12-3) 79-73 (howard at pre) WW - Willie Schaeffer (9/8) (23-4) UD10 Johnny Alberts (35/40) (12-4-2) (alberts at pre) |

Title Fight FLY - (WBA) Johnny Hughes (CH) (20-4-6) successfully defended his WBA Fly title with a UD15 over Joseph "Louisiana" Biderberg (2/3) (15-3-5). It was Hughes first defense. Hughes dropped Biderberg in the 2nd, 4th, twice in the 10th, and the 11th. Hughes had some scary moments though as he was cut over both eyes. The judges had it a runaway at 148-133/148-133/148-132. Title Tourney MW - (WBA - first round) Young Mitchell (9/8) (20-2) knocked William Sheriff (8/10) (17-2) (pre) down 6 times on the way to a TKO10 victory to move onto the second round of the MW tourney.
