I did. Apparently the demo expired (and idk if I can get another, which might make the whole issue moot), but I don't see that button:

I'm guessing it's a paid function?

I made that mistake too, Amazin' - you downloaded the full game. Return to the site and to the right of that link is the DEMO version of OOTP 19. The Import button will be on the very, very bottom of the screen. I edited my previous post to show it.

To clarify for anyone following, I'm on a Mac. there's only one version, and the above is it. But now I understand what made my experience different. In the words of Fleetwood Mac (and many, many others), "Oh, Well".

Back to the main purpose, the Devil Rays are celebrating their sophomore season but without much pitching. So they're considering Christopher Wright (the game calls him Chris), who had a nice year in 1998…but only at Hudson Valley.

IRL, Christopher made decent progress through the organization, was overmatched at AAA Tacoma, and decamped for the Chinese League. And never saw the Trop.

At least Chris did better than the NBA's Chris Wright, who came down with Multiple Sclerosis.

Or the "Chris Wright" who was convicted of a murder he didn't commit…

Does anyone know why the face pack will not load in the All Time Greatest quick start setting? It works in historical sims but not in the quick start

I think that QuickStart was done some time ago and has just been carried forward. When it was made, the players didn't have Historical Minors IDs populated in the player editor and that is now the primary code for assigning facegens to players.

Not Adolph

Outfielder Chad Rupp was a 44th-round pick of the Twins, but worked his way up to the AAA Salt Lake Buzz, where he had two good seasons in 1997-1998.

IRL, that didn't generate enough Buzz to get him on the 40-man (Rupp was 26 and SLC is at altitude [over 4000 ft], so the stats are likely inflated) and when Chad had a bad start in 1999, the Twins dumped him and he finished the season at AA Knoxville in the Toronto system and then, deciding backwards was not the way to go, got on with his life.

Here he's on the roster…of Toronto. The database missed that he started the season still with Minny; I'll have to fix it.

And now, a pic:

I don't have anything more to add, so the end here will be somewhat abRUPPt. (Ouch!)

Chris Wright, Devil Rays MiLB'er

Tampa Bay Times, Jun. 5, 1997, Devil Ray Draft Capsules:

CHRIS WRIGHT, RHP, 11TH ROUND, 354TH OVERALL NOTES: Pitched sparingly for Cowley County (Kan.) Community College, the junior college world series champion. Had 5-0 record with 5.25 ERA in 18 innings, and surrendered 23 hits and 14 walks. Went 7-1 as freshman at Cowley County. Worked mostly in relief. Teammate of Marlins top pick Aaron Akin. Played high school ball in Dale, Okla.

Chad Rupp

More than 1,200 players were selected before Chad Rupp in the 1993 major league draft. When the 44th round arrived, the Minnesota Twins finally called Rupp's name. Many players with his resume might have taken it all as an insult. Rupp, who played his junior and senior seasons at the University of Miami, decided to look at it as a challenge.

"I took the approach that I had to prove to some people that I can play," said Rupp, the Hardware City Rock Cats' first baseman. "I guess they really didn't think I had what it takes to play in the big leagues. "Twenty-seven other teams overlooked me. The Twins gave me a chance and I'm trying to take advantage of it."

Rupp, 24, is winning his fight so far. He is among the Double A Eastern League leaders in home runs (13) and has 35 RBI and a .250 average through Friday. Soon, maybe he won't have that 44th-round tag. Rock Cats manager Al Newman said he sees something special in Rupp's eyes, an effort that has already put him ahead of expectations. "That's grit and determination," Newman said. "He's not blessed with the best foot speed, but last year he stole 14 bases. Certain guys make themselves a player. Other guys are blessed with great talent. "Players that are picked in the first 15 rounds are based on potential. When they looked at Rupp, they saw what they saw. They didn't see room for growth or improvement. But through his work ethic he's improved his foot speed, his bat speed and he's a better fielder." - Hartford Current, Jun 09, 1996

Thanks for Chris and Chad!

Well, I was going to do someone else, but that sounds like a cue to ask for Wright's teammate, the ace of those champs at Cowley County CC, the 1st Round pick of the Marlins (#12 overall), Aaron Akin!

Yowch. Now we know why the Fish have a reputation for 1st round busts. Any more such as Akin and they'll be giving the Phils ("Frank Thomas? Nah, give us Jeff Jackson") a run for their money.

Pro record (including a comeback in the indie league) of 9-27, career ERA 4.74. Never pitched above A-ball.

Wisely, the Marlins AI has him right there, with the Brevard County Manatees of the FSL. At least he can pick up Major League experience from staff-mates Gabe Gonzalez, Andy Larkin, and Joe Fontenot, all of whom pitched in The Show last season. (If you're wondering how those three are all the way down in A-ball, check out their stats for the '98 Marlins. Yeesh.)

Fortunately, #1 picks get lots of press, so we're not lacking for shots of Akin:

Seriously, there are number of pics.

Although Akin might have done better if he'd known that he was supposed to be a pitcher. it's true.

Perhaps the organization was already grumbling that they should have taken Lance Berkman (#16, to the Astros), instead. But there are no Mulligans, Aaron. You do you.

Aaron Akin

Aaron Akin has a strong right arm, but his right hand played a major part in the Marlins' making him the 12th overall selection in Tuesday's draft. Or, rather, what he was prepared to do with his right hand: sign a contract. Akin, a hard-throwing 20-year-old who led Cowley County (Kan.) Community College to a national championship last weekend, needed under an hour to agree on a contract with a bonus worth between $1 million and $1.1 million.

Akin received the phone call from the Marlins at his home in Manhattan, Kan., at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, agreed to terms by about 2 p.m., and then was out the door and headed to Kansas City for an evening flight to Fort Lauderdale. "It was real quick," said Don Akin, his father. "I thought he should wait a little while just to think about it and check out things, but Aaron wanted to be the first one to sign. He just wanted to go play ball."

"I haven't proven anything yet," said Akin, 10-0 with an 0.78 ERA during the regular season for Cowley County, with 84 strikeouts and 16 walks in 66 innings. He allowed 13 runs in three games at the Junior College World Series, but started both victories and got the last two outs in relief in the championship game after one day of rest. - South Florida Sun Sentinel, Jun 04, 1997

After being drafted 12th overall, Aaron Akin was a disaster, going 9-27 in the minor leagues and independent league with a 4.74 ERA. Akin never made the major leagues and the Marlins let him go after 2000. - bleacher report

Thanks for Makin' Akin!

Sounds as though Florida opted for Aaron because he knew he'd be an easy signing. I know Wayne Huizenga was trying to drive the payroll down to juice the sale of the team (hence the speedy destruction of the World Champions, including Mike Piazza's one-week tenure as a Marlin), but somebody in the front office should have had some integrity. How much more would Berkman have cost, really?

Back to people the AI likes, the Oakland AI thinks that AJ Hinch should be backed up by Jorge Soto. Jorge has power (11 HR in 45 games last season) and a good eye (38 BB) but only hit .244, which meant that the .921 OPS could be built on sand, given that he was playing for the Southern Oregon Timberjacks, and the pitching in the Northwest League is more than a few steps below MLB standards.

IRL, Jorge did okay at Visalia, but flailed away at AAA Vancouver and was never seriously considered for the bigs. But fastest route to the Show and all of that…even though IRL he was swiftly converted to 1B.

I've attached those two facegens here for you for easy access.

As a reminder though, new work I've done since the last pack re-zip is getting uploaded to the google drive as individual files as it is made. I don't often post specific comparison shots, but I'm uploading work in there whenever I have any.

Jorge Soto (MiLB)

"This year the Troy State baseball team had a great year, finishing with a record of 28-23. The Trojans beat baseball power houses such as Georgia State and Auburn. The Trojans came in second place at the TAAC Conference tournament. The team was lead by power hitter Jorge Sota, who was heavily scouted by many major league teams." - 1998-1999 Palladium, Troy University

Because nothing makes you feel appreciated leading the baseball team as having your senior accomplishments recorded in the college yearbook with the wrong last name... The alumni book was kinder to Jorge and that's where I finally found a photo good enough to make something for you, Amazin'

Thanks!

I knew you'd find something for Soto.

The Mariners AI wants to promote Craig Anderson. Of course, he already has a facegen…but it's Craig Anderson of the 1962 Mets. Adding to the confusion is that the Mets Craig Anderson is actually Norman Craig Anderson, so some IDs use "nor" and some use "cr".

This guy, Craig Anthony Anderson, is a big lefty who shows talent, but promoting him right away (he just signed from Australia) seems dubious. IRL he made nice progress through the chain, winning an ERA title at Bakersfield in the Cal League, and eventually reaching AAA Tacoma.

There he went 13-11, 3.56, but the M's front office was concerned that his K/9 rate had diminished and sent him back to Tacoma for a second go, telling him to stop nibbling. As often happens in such cases, they soon found out why he'd been nibbling…and…

After his descent, Anderson (who represented Australia in two Olympics, two WBCs, and a World Cup) bounced around the globe, from the Japanese industrial league to the Long Island Ducks, to back home Down Under. By the time he hung it up, he was almost 40.

And, unfortunately, all the images I could find were from the tail end of his career. If you can de-age the aged Anderson, that would be great.

Craig Anderson (minors 1999-2019)

Dual Olympian Craig Anderson won a silver medal for Australia in baseball in 2004. From New South Wales, the left-hander was part of a strong Aussie pitching squad in Athens. Anderson was one of six players on the Athens team to have played at Sydney 2000, where the team finished seventh. He pitched the first game of the 2004 tournament for Australia, a loss to Cuba. Australia reached the semi-finals by winning four of its seven preliminary round matches, finishing fourth. It beat Japan, the top-ranked team, 1-0 in the semi-final. In the final, it lost to Cuba 6-2. The result was Australia's first Olympic baseball medal. - Australian Olympic Committee

His time in the Seattle and Baltimore organizations gave enough pics to work with. He always has this upward sneer-type of smile. I closed his mouth but retained some of the tilt. I'm going to call it close enough...

I miss facegens being a relevant part of the game, it'd be nice they get the issue fixed for Mac soon. At this point tho, I'm not counting on it. :-(

I hear ya. Thank goodness I'm a PC guy. I've done probably 600 facegens in the past two months or so - mostly trying to improve the ones that come with the game - and I'm looking forward to Mac users getting to see them all as they should be.

To the extent they may have reached out to the makers of the facegen software, I think that is a good thing. Even though the facegens were better for Mac users in OOTP22 - they were still far less than PC users got to enjoy. My hope is that the current efforts get y'all to full resolution on par to the PC, in which case, turning on the game after the fix will be like Xmas morning. Until then, those of us that make them will keep wrapping presents...

Well, I enjoy the presents. (And as I've claimed, I'm retiring after v.22 anyhow.)

Those Red Sox are considering Jason Norton for a bullpen spot, thus perking up Chris Berman of Bristol CT, who's just aching for a chance to say "Hey, NAWton! Throw a strike!" constantly. But it might be premature, as while Norton prospered in 1999 IRL, it was at A-level Augusta, and there's a bit of a difference between the Greenjackets and the Green Monster.

Before being drafted (16th round), Norton was the ace at South Alabama, where he still holds their record for wins. He pitched well enough in the Sox chain, reaching AA Trenton by 2001, but then his career was cut short. (An injury, most likely.)
