FW's now have enough ranked fighters (100) to have a WBO title, this month will kick off the initial WBO tourney
1. Jem Driscoll (45-8-1) vs. 8. Billy Snailham (22-8) (Jan) 4. Jimmy Briggs (20-13-6) vs. 5. Oscar Gardner (26-7-1) (Dec) 2. Terry McGovern (38-9-4) vs. 7. Patsy Brannigan (18-1-3) (Dec) 3. Johnny Kilbane (24-4-2) vs. 6. Jerry Barnett (21-8-1) (Jan) Brannigan and Barnett fought to a draw for the USBA title in October and were scheduled to meet again this month. They both gave up that for this opportunity. Since we are at the end of the year any tourney fighter who retires will be replaced at the commissioner's (me) discretion. |

Quote:
Defended it twice before losing to Young Griffo in January of 1912. He then lost the WBO title to Jack McAuliffe in March of 1912. Currently 6-7 in title fights 26-11 overall. He has held titles at FW and LW and if he doesn't win this tourney he may step up to WW and try to be the first to win 3. |

December 6th, 1912 (my scores in bold where applicable)
Title Fight LW - (WBA) Abe Attell (CH) (40-12-3) became the 12th fighter to win 40 with a MD15 over tough challenger Eddie Hanlon (17/20) (19-10-1). Hanlon consistenly hurt Attell when he landed punches but he just didn't land enough. The scores were 144-141/143-143/143-142. I gave a couple of close rounds to Attell so the champion biased judges did their work on this one. It was Attell's second defense of the WBA LW title Title Tourney LW - (IBF) Young Corbett (10/7) (32-18-4) scored a TKO8 over Freddie Welsh (5/10) (24-9-1) to advance to the second round of the IBF LW tourney. Welsh suffered a cut over his left eye in the 4th and it was reopened several times before the ref finally stopped it. I had it 67-66 for Corbett at the stoppage. Other Fights LW - Jem Carney (53/44) (30-19) MD10 Mike Ward (47/61) (15-4-2) (Carney at post) BW - Monte Attell (3/2) (24-7-2) KO9 Pal Moore (UR/24) (12-3) (moore at pre) MW - Jeff Smith (UR) (11-0) UD10 Herb Goddard (90/93) (7-8-3) 97-92 (both at pre) MW - Johnny Reagan (24/16) (21-2-1) UD10 Mike Donovan (34/44) (30-21-5) 97-96 |

Title Fight HW - (WBO) Jack Johnson (CH) (47-3) scored a SD15 over long time rival Peter Jackson (2/2) (40-9-2) for his 6th defense of the WBO HW title. Johnson seemed to control the fight but never really dominated it. Jackson was cut under his right eye in the 10th. Final scores were 144-142/144-146/145-143. This was Johnson's 5th win over Jackson and the commissioner (me) has said that the two will not fight again unless it is a unification bout. Title Tourney MW - (WBA) Stanley Ketchel (2/1) (34-9) battered and bruised the inexperienced Jack McCarron (11/18) (17-1-1) (pre) in route to a KO11 win in the first round of the WBA MW title elimination tourney. McCarron was cut badly under his swollen shut right eye in the 10th and was down 5 times in this fight. I had it 99-89 at the stoppage. Other fights LW - Johnny Clark (104/73) (13-11-4) TKO9 Ad Wolgast (39/74) (21-12) bad bad loss for Wolgast BW - Frankie Neil (18/15) (26-22-3) UD10 Willie Schumacher (27/32) (18-4-1) 96-93 (schumacher at pre for this fight, moved to prime) MW - Jack Smith (71/43) (17-7-1) UD10 Fighting Bill Murray (14/44) (18-2) (murray at pre) LW - Sam Robideau (UR) (10-0-2) D10 Kid Cleveland (111/110) (10-9-3) 95-94 Robideau (robideau at pre) |

Title Fights BW - (USBA) Jimmy Barry (16/13) (21-5) survived a tough fight to score a TKO11 over tough Jack Ward (18/25) (19-4). The fight was give and take the whole way. Ward seemed to take the advantage in the 8th when he dropped the regional champ. But then Barry came back to drop Ward in the 9th. Ward ran out of steam and was getting pummelled on the ropes in the 11th when the ref stopped it. I had it 95-95 at the stoppage. It was Barry's first defense of the USBA BW title. WW - (CBU) Ted Lewis (7/7) (20-3-2) suffered a DRAW12 in a lazy performance against Fred Kay (49/45) (13-1-2) (pre) but still retained his CBU WW title for the 6th time. A boring fight with no knockdowns or cuts. Other Fights BW - Frankie Burns (13/10) (23-5-1) SD10 Jimmy Walsh (8/11) (18-14-5) 97-95 Burns HW - Harry Smith (127/74) (19-9-2) DQ9 Joe Coburn (25/64) (30-14-5) (Coburn was warned six times and penalized twice) |

Title Fight FW - (WBA) Benny Yanger (CH) (27-4) treated Mike Sears (10/15) (19-3-1) (pre) like the newbie he is knocking him out :55 into the fight. It was Yanger's second defense of the WBA FW title. Title Tourney FW - (WBO) Jimmy Gardner (6/5) (27-7-1) scored a UD12 over Jimmy Briggs (5/7) (20-14-6) to advance to the second round of the WBO FW title tourney. It was a close fight broken open in the 10th when Gardner dropped Briggs. The judges scores were 116-112/116-112/116-112. Title Fight LHW - (WBC) Jack Dempsey (CH) (46-7) scored an easy TKO6 over Young Hank Griffin (12/15) (16-4-2). Griffin managed to stay on his feet but was cut badly over the right eye in the 3rd and it was reopened every round after that. I had it 50-45. That is Dempsey's second defense of the WBC LHW title and now has a 5-5 record in title matches. Title Tourney LW - (WBC) Frank Erne (6/4) (25-9-2) won a bloody UD12 over Sam Bolen (11/16) (22-15-2) to move onto the second round of the WBC LW title tourney. Erne was cut over his left eye in the first and his right in the 11th. Bolen had a cut lip, swollen left eye and cut right eye. The final score was 117-112/116-112/115-113 Other fights HW - Jack Fallon (UR) (11-0-1) TKO1 Jerold Black (100/114) (13-9-2) NA (Fallon at pre) WW - Mike Glover (14/14) (24-2-3) UD10 Jack Goodman (43/49) (13-9-6) FW - Tommy Dixon (56/45) (15-2) SD10 Doc Hollywood (30/46) (16-5) (both at pre) MW - Albert Crouse (UR) (11-0) KO8 Walter Burgo (94/96) (9-13-2) 68-63 (Crouse at pre) |

Title Fights FW - Johnny T. Griffin (13/9) (24-5-1) dropped George "Lon" Chaney (14/23) (13-1-2) (pre) 4 times en route to a KO8 to win the vacant USBA FW title. A close fight was broken open in the 7th when Griffin dropped Chaney twice. Chaney went down twice more in the 8th, staying down the second time. I had it 68-64 at the stoppage. Title Tourney LW - Patsy Sweeney (18/10) (22-13-2) scored a TKO3 over Aurelio Herrera (9/12) (26-12) in the first round of the WBC LW title tourney. Herrera won the first two rounds easily but a nasty cut over his right eye stopped the fight in the third. Herrera was ahead 20-18 at the stoppage. Herrera will most likely try his luck at WW once he recovers. Other fights HW - Sam McVey (28/26) (34-8) UD10 Deaf James Burke (131/138) (12-4) 100-90 (Burke at pre, McVey's 6th straight win since the embarrassing loss to Sunny Jim) LW - Kid McPartland (73/68) (25-23-4) SD10 Edward McDonald (100/101) (16-9-1) |

Damn, crappy win for Herrera to lose. Hopefully, he can grab a title at WW and become the first three division champ in your Uni.
Nice to see Dempsey even up his title record, it looks like he might finally put together the kind of title reign a fighter of his caliber should have.

Title Fight BW - (WBC) George Dixon (CH) (37-11-2) scored a late knockdown and pulled out a DRAW15 against Owen Moran (9/9) (34-8-7) for his third defense of the WBC BW title. It was a close fight the whole way with no cuts. Dixon dropped Moran in the 12th. The judges scores were 143-143/144-142/143-143. Title Tourney LW - (WBC) Battling Nelson (18/8) (30-17-1) scored a TKO7 over Arthur Chambers (3/10) (25-6-1) to move onto the second round of the WBC LW title tourney. Title Fights LH - (IBF) Bob Fitzsimmons (CH) (42-5) had an easy KO7 over Irish Gorgas (14/19) (14-2) (pre) for his first defense of the IBF LHW title. This was the first time the IBF title was successfully defended. The three previous champs all lost the title in their first defense. Gorgas lost two rounds by 10-8 despite not getting knocked down, so this was a huge mismatch. Gorgas was finally knocked down in the 7th and stayed down. I had it 60-52 at the stoppage. FW - Fred Johnson (30/21) (22-5-1) completely dominated Johnny Dundee (8/17) (17-1) (pre) en route to a KO3 to win the FW CBU regional title. Dundee was never in it and after losing the first two rounds by wide margins, he was knocked out in the third. I had it 20-18. Dundee went prime after the fight. Title Tourney MW - (WBA) Al McCoy (6/5) (18-1) (pre) scored a KO10 over Jimmy Handler (10/18) (17-15-3) to advance to the second round of the WBA title tourney. McCoy went to prime after the fight.
