A Notable Correction: Tom McMillan

Found a mistake in the TV BM folder (jokes are understood). An image that was included in the Scott McGregor run (BM 401) certainly is not McGregor and would appear to be Tom McMillan. Pictured on a '77 4-player rookie card with Seattle (for whom he played two whole games), he was hung up on Cleveland's AAA roster for the eqivalent of three full seasons (1973-76). Since I cannot find his name on any other TV checklist, felt it worthwhile to mention here.

Confused. Are you stating that this is not Alan Ashby?

Alan Ashby / Tom McMillan

Hidden behind the mountainously large fact that it's Alan Ashby - and a picture of him as an Astros announcer in 2015 would verify that identification (to say nothing of the fact that any of the first 100 google images of him would do the same)...why would Tom McMillan, who never reached the majors with the Indians, be depicted with them in a photograph clearly taken by Topps' Doug McWilliams before an Indians-A's game at the Oakland Coliseum in 1976 or 1977?

Honestly, I appreciate the enthusiasm and zeal to which you have taken to this product, but given how often this has happened, don't you think you should have somebody check these lists you've made?

For the record, I do not believe Topps shot McMillan, certainly not with Seattle and I don't think with Cleveland. The photo on the card hints, not conclusively, at a colorized team publicity photo. Here 1977 Baseball Cards Update: 1977 Seattle Mariners - Volume 2 - The Originals is a pretty good photoshop from a Venezuelan card of McMillan, creating a Mariner cap and a faux 1977 Topps card.

Beyond skin color there are almost no similarities between the two men.

I'm being told this guy is Alan Ashby, but I saw the card below of McMillan and swear its the same guy, right down to the curl in his sideburn. And besides, it fell alphabetically.
Where were all of you Ashby experts when we were trying to ID things the first time around? Got all kinds of gripes when I'd post images I wasn't sure about. And we fixed several things without fanfare when one individual in particular went back and double checked.
Certainly no one questioned this image's ID. That was me trying to double check myself, and obviously all I did was dig a bigger hole of shame and ridicule. I am hoping to do a zip file of the master folder checklist by Christmas as my parting gift to those who helped, but if it is full of errors like this, I don't know how much good it will be. Clearly, a number of you have assimilated your own checklists and are sharing things piecemeal, if at all. I would have LOVED to not have had to compile any of these. Go with God, people.

I'm sorry. I must have missed the great uprising on this board of people who found the piecemeal system of posting Topps images of otherwise hard-to-find players or posting questions when they were tough calls, to be insufficient.

This is not a forum devoted to the Topps Vault nor to correcting somebody who can't tell that Alan Ashby is Alan Ashby.

And as to the last part about leaving - you keep saying this.

Thanks for the noble try on Hottman guys...he's a toughy. Thanks "Merk" for the Powell photos...I especially needed the Dodger one for my 74 MVP season Dodger rookies, now all I need is a nice pic like that of Alvarez.

I know probably this isn't the place to put this, but I was wondering if there might be somebody there that could help me with doing some of my "hard-to-do" player audios for MVP 05 (pc)? I'm doing most but there are a few toughies here and there. I can supply the files and audio editor needed to do the job, but I need an artist with "an ear for music" sort of.

Thanks!

BRobby05

PS: I would put your name on the small listing of helpers when I finally get the 71, 74, and 83 seasons done. I also found this pic at the last minute dealing with the Ashby/McMillan debate. Look at the back...the "A" in Ashby.

Orlando Pena - Cincinnatti Reds

I know there was some discussion, earlier, about Topps catching Pena with the Reds (eventually resolved that they did). The Vault kicked out another couple of Penas this week--pretty obviously from the same shoot at Wrigley as the earlier one posted by Merkle. I've attempted some color correction on these as they suffered from that "Scarlet Fever" that afflicts the early transparencies and negatives.

George Genovese 1950

George Genovese, whose sole major league playing experience was with the Washington Senators in 1952, died yesterday. He is much better known as a long-time major league scout. He signed stars such as George Foster, Garry Maddox, Gary Matthews, Randy Moffitt, Jack Clark, Bobby Bonds, and Dave Kingman. He is shown here in a photo from the Washington Evening Star. Back in 2011, tnfoto posted a better photo of him in a Senators uniform on the following page in this thread: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...opack-498.html

George Genovese had his only major league playing experience in 1950, not 1952. Just sayin'. In 1952, he was in class D Batavia.

I stand corrected. I had looked up the correct year and somehow typed in an erroneous one.
