The roster spot will likely be cleared by putting Erubiel Durazo on the DL.
Johnson started off really slowly this year, so that was a very good turnaround. I imagine he is batting 400+ over the past 20 games as he started off at about 250 for the first 10 games.

He is big and strong and a very good athlete, according to b-a. He also has a loopy, long swing, and despite being chiseled, has no power -- 6 HRs in a hitters park with a metal bat does not a power hitting 1b make.

I’d be surprised if the A’s took him, but there is talk that if he lasts (and he might) the Red Sox may take him, so anything is possible.

I'd also be surprised if they took him, considering Daric Barton is 19 and likely the team's future at that position.

I'm not up on all the draft stuff this year - isn't there a Stanford 2B that's ranked about the same as Mayberry?

Yes. Saarloos also wears number 31, like Gil did when he was with the A's.
Spooky. Guess management wanted him to live up to past glory

But honestly, Heredia was a very solid pitcher for the 99-00 clubs ... he was probably the 2nd best starter both years. Despite having his ERA over 4.00, if he had his command, which he consistently did in those years, you could count on him going into the 7th and 8th and keeping enough runs off the board so that Giambi and Co. could slug their way into leads for Izzy to (usually) finish off.

I think the Stanford 2B is Jed Lowry. Top collegiate hitter going into March, but I haven't kept up with the college season.

Btw, DJ looked great in his first AB. Absolutely launched a ball off Lee down the RF line, he turned on it too quick and it was well foul. Drew ball four on a close pitch low and away. His approach at the plate looks a little like Hatte's but also looks like more of a power threat.

Gibson swings, and a fly ball to deep right field! This is gonna be a home run! Unbelievable! A home run for Gibson! And the Dodgers have won the game, 5 to 4; I don't believe what I just saw! I don't believe what I just saw!

It's OK. Yet another wasted good start by Barry Zito. What else is new?

Such is the way when you play the A's. It's one step above getting to play the Rockies.

I will tell you this much, if it wasn't for the Indians pitching this year... we would be at least 10 or 15 games under .500 already. Sorry your team has been struggling, but at least it's only been 16 years since they won the World Series. For my team it's been 57 years.

The worst part is, people will say this is Beane being a bad GM. They'll ignore the fact that Harden and Dotel have been hurt. They'll ignore Chavez, Durazo, Kendall and Swisher playing poorly (and being hurt for two of them). They'll ignore the fact that Bobby Kielty has been the best hitter. They'll say it's because they don't hit and run.

I still think this team has to turn it around. Hopefully Harden and Dotel can get back soon. Chavez has been a little better lately. Dan Johnson is only 1 for 9, but he looks solid from what I've seen. The A's may not make the playoffs this year (they won't finish this poorly), but they're going to be good again next season.

True to the form of being an A's. 3BBs despite only one hit. He probably won't stay long though?

I imagine unless he tears it up he is headed down when Durazo gets back.

I suppose it's possible Beane starts unloading guys like Hatteberg. That could give Johnson extended time.

Nobody but Beane wants Hatteberg though. I wouldn't be at all shocked to see Durazo get moved, however.

They got extra DH and OF, but what should they trade for now?

Second base is looking like it's still a hole and you can never have enough pitching.

I'm going to an A's game sometime in August, if I hit Marco Scutaro in the head with a rock or something...will they let me play 2nd base? I'm a light hitter too damnit!

As long as you can play second better than Keith Ginter they might give you a shot.

I don't think second base is that big of a hole. Ginter's true level should be much much better than that?

That's the problem of this club right now, too many players performing under expectations. It's one thing having a sucky player you'd just replace given chance, but it's another having someone struggling to get out of slump.

I think this is the move most likely to happen. Hatteberg has virtually no trade value, though I still think he's an underrated hitter but would probably work better in the NL as a pinch hitting specialist. He is one of the hardest guys to strike out in the league. But I would almost bet on Durazo being moved sometime this year, along with Dotel.

I'm not sold on a Zito trade and I still wonder if Beane is thinking that with Z's recent struggles, he could sign him to a long term deal at a cheaper, A's-level price.
