You keep making an assumption that Germany = US in terms of pandemic conditions and response. That could not be further from the truth. Ideally, the US would have their poop together on this. You seem to be either assuming this is the case, or wishing it to be so because you miss your sports (which we all do). The situation, rather than ideal, is quite dire. As an ER doctor in Texas put it: "We are fighting two viruses, 1) COVID, and 2) STUPIDITY.
Given the intelligent, cautious response of your country, it was probably safe to go ahead and start up the Bundesliga, and I think (I wouldn't know for certain, because I don't follow it), it was a resounding success in terms of health. That's excellent, and reflects well on Germany in terms of listening to the science, and pulling together to get through this. Or as my now buried analogy went, getting through the broccoli before getting to dessert rather than throwing a hairy fit, and getting nothing. Yes, in an ideal world MLB, the NBA, and the NHL could get going again, but IMHO, this would be a disastrously dumb mistake to make at the moment. I mean Arizona had a 28% testing positivity rate just last week for goodness sake. |

Pretty sure they’ll carry on regardless, but we’ll see.

EDIT: Also, there's the fact that Flash will not work with at least a couple of browsers in five and a half months. Painful Last edited by actionjackson; 07-16-2020 at 04:49 PM. |

Wow...Somebody who loves baseball, but understands how dumb this "season" is. What a concept.

Because the United States is riddled with a disease that other first-world nations have managed to control, Canada will not allow major league baseball to take place there.
Expect the Blue Jays to play in Buffalo. |

That ought to be a sign that the league should just shut it down but it won’t be. It’ll probably take an outbreak to do so, sadly.

Baseball owners are very poor but the Dodgers managed to scrape together about $365 million to give to Mookie Betts even though it doesn't look like they'll sell many tickets this season and who knows about next

still, for all the hemming and hawing over giving players full pro-rated salaries for a full season and then turning around to extend Mookie has it's ironies to it
It's still embarrassing that we had to get to this point to even get a season. Either Manfred should have intervened sooner or the owners should have met the MLBPA at the halfway point.

Honestly, I think Toronto refusing to allow the Blue Jays was a sign the league should have taken a couple months ago. This is not a great situation, the league isn't handling it particularly well (look to the NBA for a better, if more draconian, handling), and it just looks to me like an outbreak waiting to happen. If one doesn't, great, but I'm not optimistic...

Tough, given that the Jays were told off only last week...
