Bout 235 - Ron Lyle versus Orlin Norris

Round 2 Commentary

Lyle rushes out at the bell. Whatever his corner said to him seems to have him fired up.
Yank Durham was extremely upbeat during the break with Norris providing some solid encouragement.
Norris is doing a great job keeping his distance.
Not now though … Look out! That was a straight right by Lyle!
Norris is hurt as that blow stopped him cold!
Norris is trapped in Lyle's corner ...
Lyle caught Norris square with that uppercut.
Lyle knows he has Norris hurt as he wades in swinging!
The fighters have worked their way back to the center of the ring.
Lyle catches Norris with an uppercut as he tries to duck.
Orlin Norris is badly stunned and Lyle will try to finish him off here in the 2nd round!
Lyle pins Norris in the corner!
Orlin Norris's head is snapped back following a sharp combination from Lyle.
Lyle senses that he can end this fight now if he can just land a few more punches.
A brutal combination from Lyle connects to the solar plexus!
Lyle plants a hard cross in Norris's midsection.
Lyle comes up just short with the cross.
Lyle has Orlin Norris blocked in!

Round 7 Commentary

Here come the fighters to ring center for Round 7 ...
Marciano lands a crushing uppercut!
Moorer suddenly has a vacant look in his eyes. That's a bad sign.
Rocky Marciano connects with a vicious hook!
Marciano follows with a three punch combo!
Oh my! Those were devastating blows! Michael Moorer is just trying to hang on!
Marciano lands a perfect hook and Moorer slumps to the canvas!
Referee Kelly picks up the count ...
At 7, Michael Moorer rises to his feet as Kelly starts the mandatory 8 count.
Kelly looks into Michael Moorer eyes and decides to let the fight to go on ...
Moorer is reeling, having been knocked down in each of the last two rounds.
Moorer is trapped in his opponents’ corner...
Marciano connects with a violent combination!
Marciano just delivered a wake-up call!!! He really caught Moorer with a sharp combination!
What a beautiful combination by Marciano! Moorer might not survive this ...
And Ref Kelly throws himself between the fighters! It's over!

Bout 237 - Buster Mathis versus Archie Moore

Round 12 Commentary

The fighters touch gloves in the middle of the ring as the 12th and final round begins.
A trickle of blood is still visible on the face of Moore; his cut man wasn't able to stop the flow of blood.
A minute wasn't enough to eliminate or even significantly reduce Mathis's swelling.
Mathis's jab falls short, but the cross gets in behind it.
Mathis and Moore each take a step back.
Mathis walks into a cross and folds like an accordion. He went down section by section.
Referee Jen-Kin stands over Mathis and begins the count ...
Mathis is struggling to regain his feet as the count reaches 3.
Mathis looks stunned, but he just beats the count.
The fight will continue as Jen-Kin appears satisfied that Mathis is OK.
Archie Moore has Mathis blocked in!
Mathis is overwhelmed by a barrage of punches! He's down again!!!
Jen-Kin stands over Mathis and begins counting ...
At 8, Mathis finds his legs and stands up but who knows how long he will be able to remain vertical!
Jen-Kin motions to both boxers to come together, as he allows the fight to continue.
Moore can't find the range with a combination.
Mathis slides into the corner ...
And there's a devastating cross to the head of Mathis!
Jen-Kin is stopping the fight due to the three knockdown rule!

Round 12 Commentary

Both fighters look determined as the final round gets underway in a close fight so far.
Mildenberger's cut man does a nice job on his facial swelling.
Whitey Bimstein seemed to pump up Karl Mildenberger between rounds.
A brutal combination from Mildenberger connects to the solar plexus!
Ray Mercer goes to the body landing an uppercut.
Mercer splits Mildenberger's gloves with a powerful uppercut.
Mildenberger fires a wild overhand left and misses everything.
Mercer throws another good combination that temporarily slows Mildenberger.
Mildenberger misses with that combination.
Mildenberger just delivered a wake-up call!!! He really caught Mercer with a sharp combination!
Mercer eats a jab from Mildenberger.
Mildenberger lands a paralyzing combination!
Mildenberger and Mercer each take a step back.
Just like the whole fight, this Round is very close and could determine the outcome!
There's the bell and this contest is in the books & both fighters act as if they've won!

Bout 239 - Muhammad Ali versus Frank Bruno

Round 2 Commentary

Bruno looks a bit disgusted as Round 2 gets underway.
Angelo Dundee not only gave Ali encouragement between rounds but also some solid advice on how to handle Bruno.
Bruno is still trying to find the range with his punches. He's just missing with some of his shots.
Some nifty bodywork by Ali as he scores with several shots from the inside.
That hook to the body from Ali had some power behind it.
That was a violent straight right by Bruno!
Ali was stunned by that blow!
Ali delivers a cross to the nose of Bruno.
Bruno brushes the ropes and forces his way back to ring center.
Ali lands a crushing cross!
Ali connects with a nasty combination!
Bruno takes another vicious series of punches from Ali and he is hurt!
Ali scores with a punishing jab
Bruno is now taking too many clean shots without responding.
Bruno retreats into the far corner.
A cross to body by Ali gets through.
Ali connects with stiff left hook to the body.
And that’s it! Bruno is exhausted and nonresponsive!
Referee Krupenich grabs Bruno to save him from further punishment!

Bout 240 - Trevor Berbick versus Riddick Bowe

Round 10 Commentary

Round 10 gets underway as the fighters move to the middle of the ring.
The swelling on the face of Trevor Berbick is noticeable, even at a distance.
Berbick misses with an uppercut from way outside. That's a dangerous punch to throw.
Berbick fires a solid combination.
The fighters are trading punches and that exchange was dead even!
And Bowe just unloaded a flurry of punches and several scored cleanly.
Bowe and Berbick trade punches in another even exchange.
OH My! Riddick Bowe lands a huge hook and Berbick hits the canvas!
Referee Christodoulou starts counting ...
At 5, Berbick appears to be ok as he regains his feet as the referee gives him the mandatory standing 8 count.
Christodoulou looks into Berbick eyes and decides to let the fight to go on ...
Bowe is reaching down deep to try and end this fight now as he knows he has Berbick in trouble!
Look out! That was a straight right by Bowe!
Berbick is trying to regroup after that punch ...
Berbick has to be struggling to see out of his badly swollen left eye.
Berbick is overwhelmed by a barrage of punches! He's down again!!!
Christodoulou stands over Berbick and starts the count ...
Berbick is making a gallant try to get off the canvas as the count reaches 6.

Christodoulou tolls the fatal 10 as Berbick lays prone on the canvas.

Round 2 Commentary

We await the bell, signaling the start of Round 2. There it is!
Bonavena is pinned in his own corner ...
Biggs misses with the jab but scores with the follow up cross.
Biggs looks to land a jab but misses the mark.
Bonavena lands a vicious cross and Biggs collapses like a house of cards!
Referee Coyle crouches over Biggs and begins to count ...
The count reaches 8 & Biggs is not even moving!
10!
The referee could have counted to 100 if he wanted. Biggs is out cold here in round 2.

Bout 242 - Jimmy Bivins versus Duane Bobick

Round 7 Commentary

There is the bell to start Round 7.
We will have to see if that knockdown last round has any carryover effect on Bivins.
If the swelling was lessened by Bobick's corner, it wasn't reduced enough to make a big difference.
Bivins goes downstairs with a quick combination.
Jimmy Bivins absorbs a wicked cross to the head!
He's staggering backwards and now he goes down in a heap.
Referee Kelly begins the count ...
At 6, Bivins rises slowly to his feet as the referee begins the mandatory 8 count.
Kelly wipes off Bivins's gloves and waves the fighters together.
Bobick forces his way inside and he lands a nice uppercut to the chin of Bivins.
Bobick senses that he can end this fight now if he can just land a few more punches.
Bobick scores with a tremendous right just above the waistline!
Bivins is now trapped in his own corner ...
Bivins eats a sizzling hook from Bobick that has him backing up!
Bobick connects with a nasty combination!
A hook from Bobick snapped Bivins's head back violently!
Bobick throws a flurry of punches; at least two solid shots made it through. Now he moves away.
Jimmy Bivins is in really bad shape after having been decked in two consecutive rounds.
There appears to be increased swelling under Bivins's left eye.
Bivins absorbs a cross to the body.
Bivins's corner has seen enough and they have thrown in the towell!!
Kelly is waving it off and Duane Bobick is the winner by TKO in the 7th round!!

Bout 243 - Joe Bugner versus Tim Witherspoon

Round 12 Commentary

There are 3:00 more minutes of fighting to go in the 12th and final round.
The cross scores for Witherspoon. He needs to throw that punch more often.
Joe Bugner is protecting the body nicely as Witherspoon fails to score inside.
Bugner scores with quick series of shots to the body of Witherspoon.
A short hook to the head by Bugner.
Bugner slides into the corner ...
A combination from Witherspoon has some power behind it!
And now it appears as if Bugner's cut has been reopened by one of those punches that landed.
Once again, the blood from the gash on the inside of Bugner's left eyebrow begins to stream down his face.
The fighters jockey back and forth and now the referee is going to use this opportunity to step in and call timeout.
He's taking Bugner by the arm and leading him to the far ropes where the ringside physician can take a look at the cut.
And the Referee has halted this fight! It's all over!
The cut over Bugner's eye is in terrible shape and he will not be able to continue!
The winner by TKO is Tim Witherspoon!

Round 12 Commentary

Both fighters look determined as the final round gets underway.
Byrd fires a lead right that Williams manages to avoid.
Byrd shoots a left to the body. That's a sneaky punch.
Williams splits Byrd's gloves with a powerful uppercut.
Byrd lands a short right hook to the head.
Williams tastes Byrd's jab.
Byrd glances a hook off Williams's side.
Williams traps Byrd in the corner!
Williams is throwing that hook from outside, but it still connects with plenty of zip!
Carl Williams's corner is screaming at him to finish the round strong.
Carl Williams seems to have done enough to win this fight.

It's Round 5 of this scheduled 12 rounder.
That hook from Chuvalo has some power behind it!
Chuvalo sent Williams reeling with that punch!
Both fighters show virtually nothing in the way of damage.
Cleveland Williams retreats into a neutral corner.
Chuvalo drives that short hook into Williams's midsection!
Chuvalo lands a solid combination to the head of Williams.
There's a straight right by Chuvalo!
Chuvalo has Williams cornered!
Williams takes a tremendous hook to the jaw!
Chuvalo connects with a vicious uppercut!

Shouts of encouragement for both fighters can be heard as the bell rings for Round 10.
A minute wasn't enough to eliminate or even significantly reduce Wilder's swelling.
Cobb has Wilder trapped!
Randall Cobb throws the cross and scores to the head of Wilder.
Deontay Wilder takes a hard combination from Cobb!
Wilder's right eye is turning ugly as the swelling under it worsens.
Oh! Wilder has been knocked down with a strong hook!
Referee Mercante, Jr. begins the count ...
At 3, Deontay Wilder struggles to regain his feet, but still looks hurt as he takes the mandatory 8 count.
Mercante, Jr. wipes Wilder's gloves as he asks him if he wants the fight to go on ... Wilder nods his head and the action resumes.

Bout 248 - Gerry Cooney versus Mike Weaver

Round 12 Commentary

We go to the last round, as the bell sounds to start the 12th.
There have been 6 Knockdowns in this fight; 3 for each fighter …
This 12th Round could easily determine the outcome of this close fight!
Cooney cranks up the hook and connects to Weaver's jaw, that one had bad intent behind it!
Hide the women and children, that punch nearly took Weaver's head off and he is in a world of trouble!!
Cooney lands a crushing uppercut!
Cooney has Mike Weaver in trouble, he is hurt and trying to hang on!!
And Weaver walks into a hook and folds like an accordion. He went down section by section!
Referee England begins the count ...
At 4, Weaver makes it to his feet. Now he has a chance to clear his head as England administers the mandatory 8 count.
The fight will continue as England appears satisfied that Weaver is OK.
Cooney is raining blows down on Weaver, who is obviously hurt.
That last series of punches by Cooney just turned Weaver's legs to Jell-O!
That last shot has also reopened a cut on "Hercules" Weaver because the blood is flowing again.
Cooney drills Weaver with a left and right and another left.
Cooney wings a big left hand at Weaver but the latter sidesteps the punch.
Cooney is clinching now and he looks gassed after all the punches thrown at Weaver in this Round ...
Cooney and Weaver each take a step back.

Round 12 Commentary

The fighters touch gloves in the middle of the ring as the 12th and final round begins.
Walcott voluntarily moves onto the ropes.
Jersey Joe Walcott rips off two quick jabs and one finds the mark.
Walcott's not even close with the uppercut.
There's a hard shot off the top of Cooper's head!
That punch may have stunned Cooper momentarily.
Cooper is pinned in his own corner ...
Walcott slips inside and lands a hook.
Cooper shoves Jersey Joe Walcott away.
Walcott lets his hands go inside and gets in a hook to Cooper's midsection.
Cooper just absorbed a terrifying shot to the body.
Walcott gets off a three-punch salvo to Cooper's head!
Walcott dances gracefully across the canvas as he senses he has won this fight!
Jersey Joe Walcott appears to have this fight under control.

Bout 250 - Michael Dokes versus Nikolay Valuev

Round 12 Commentary

The crowd would like to see a knockout as the bell sounds for Round 12, the final round of the fight.
Quick efficient work in the corner of Valuev has his facial puffiness under control.
"The Russian Giant" Valuev tries to double up on the hook to the body and at least one gets through.
Dokes lands a nice left hook to the body, then dances out of harm’s way.
Dokes and Valuev are in a clinch, Hook hollers at them to break and start fighting.
Hook moves in to break the clinch.
Referee Hook is earning his pay tonight as it seems he is spending half his time separating the fighters.
Valuev lands the lead cross.
Valuev misses wildly with the Hook.
Dokes lands two short rights and a left hook to the body.
Valuev lands a jab to the head of Dokes …
Dokes hooks off the jab and scores to the body or Nikolay "The Russian Giant" Valuev.
Dokes seems to have this fight won.
Valuev misses wildly with the hook.
Both fighters look finished as the fight ends with the ringing of the bell.

Bout 251 - Buster Douglas versus Mike Tyson

Round 9 Commentary

Tyson rushes out at the bell. Whatever his corner said to him seems to have him fired up.
Douglas circles around the ring.
Tyson cranks up the hook and connects to Buster Douglas's jaw, that one had bad intent behind it!
Douglas gets caught with several punishing blows to the head and he is reeling!
Tyson just landed a devastating three punch combo!
Douglas is on unsteady legs after those punches.
Tyson forces the action inside with an arcing cross to Douglas's head.
Douglas is being pummeled and Referee Viruet looks ready to move in and halt the carnage.
Douglas is forced into his opponents’ corner ...
Tyson catches Douglas with a nice cross.
Tyson pins Douglas in the corner!
Tyson connects with a devastating uppercut to the head!
Hide the women and children, that punch nearly took Douglas's head off and he is in a world of trouble!!
Tyson is just pouring it on now! Viruet needs to step in and he finally does.
This fight has been stopped and Tyson gets the TKO victory!!

Bout 252 - Jimmy Ellis versus Tony Tucker

Round 6 Commentary

We await the bell, signaling the start of Round 6. There it is!
Ellis has Tucker pinned!
Ellis lands a big hook to the head. That one had to hurt, even though Tucker took it well.
A quick jab to the body scores for Tucker.
Ellis lands a hard cross to the body, one of the better punches so far this round.
Tucker looks to land an uppercut but misses the mark.
Now Tucker lands a wicked follow-up uppercut!
Ellis was stopped cold by that punch and he is staggering across the ring!
Tucker with a lead right to the head.
Ellis retreats to his own corner ...
Tucker tries a straight right that's blocked by the gloves of Ellis.
Great work to the body by Ellis as he scores with both hands.
Tony Tucker throws consecutive hooks to the ribs. He really sunk that second one in there.
Ellis landed a sharp combination that rocked Tucker back on his heels!
Tucker appears shaken by those punches!
It looks like Ellis has reopened Tony Tucker's previous wound because Tucker is now bleeding once again.
Additional punishment has caused the gash on the eyebrow of Tucker to reopen and a stream of blood is flowing down his face.
Tucker seems to be having some difficulty seeing as he paws at his eye.
The referee has stepped in and momentarily stopped the fight.
He's looking at the cut above Tony Tucker's eye and is now leading him toward the ringside physician.
The ring doctor is studying the cut... Tucker's corner is pleading its case.
The Referee is waving it off. It's over! The doctor is not going to let it continue.
The winner by TKO due to the severity of the cuts is Jimmy Ellis!

Round 12 Commentary

A straight cross from Tony Tubbs gets through Alfredo Evangelista's guard.
Tony Tubbs traps Alfredo Evangelista in the corner!
Tubbs scores to the body with a jab.
Tubbs fires a solid combination.
Tubbs backs into a neutral corner.
Evangelista can't score with short uppercut inside. Tubbs got his gloves in front of the punch.
Tubbs lands a jab to the head of Evangelista.
Evangelista scores with a nice short hook inside the defense of Tubbs.
Tubbs lands a jab. He's using it as both an offensive and defensive weapon on occasions.
That combination from Evangelista lands with some authority!
Evangelista lands a hook to the ribs.
Tubbs fires away but finds nothing but air.
Tubbs appears to have this fight under control.
The fighters hug each other in the middle of the ring as the 12th and final round ends.
