Phil Garner signed an extension. He will continue to man second for another season, for $161,700.
His is currently our fifth highest guaranteed contract for next year. 1. Keith Hernandez - $900k 2. George Brett - $720k 3. Claudell Washington - $630k 4. Robin Yount - $408k Both Ed Whitson and Jerome Thomson are expected to make in the $200k range through arbitration if we go that route. No one expects Whitson to be moving, but Thomson is less certain... especially after this signing of Garner.

Well, 72-64 isn't...bad. Not by any means. Do you have any hope for winning the division?

Nope. The Tigers are the best team in baseball this year and they ran away with it. Toronto is second but back by 16 games.

Chris Cook kept the Twins in check while the Toronto offence went to work. Rick Camp struggled in the 9th but the Jays still won 9-4. Claudell Washington left the game with a hip strain. He is expected to miss the remainder of the season. It was an off-day for Gustavo Pena so he is still sitting at a 20-game hitting streak. WP - Chris Cook (13-9) LP - Bruce Kison (8-12) Record - 76-65

Bobby Castillo gave up the walk-off hit in the bottom of the north, but it was really the top half that was the issue. Gustavo Pena (with a 21 game hitting streak) led off with a single and Skip McBeath followed with a double (one of five this he had, including three doubles). With two men in scoring position and none out, John Howell, Phil Garner and UL Washington all failed to tally a go-ahead RBI. The Twins won 7-6. Roger Erickson is the latest in a string of Blue Jays injuries as the season winds down. WP - Sid Monge (3-2) LP - Bobby Castillo (0-1) Record - 76-66

It appears Roger Erickson's ankle may push back his next start, but that is all.
