It's not that Laraque won't fight. It's that no one will fight him.

Luongo had to be helped off the ice in the first period today. Didn't look very good, but here is to hoping it is not that serious.

The Sens have also shown how not to dress.

In any case, CBC mentioned that Marc Savard has recorded his 600th NHL point. I thought he was underrated, but even I was impressed by that!

Apparantly that includes Lucic under the heading "won't fight Laraque"

I liked the Black uniforms, and obviously the Sens do too, since it got them a rare (very rare) win.

Well, I'm generally not a fan of black uniforms (I liked the Canucks' 80's v-necks, and the Kings' Gretzky-era jerseys), so I guess that doesn't help, but I don't like that Sens block either. Plus, I kinda like their regular uniform. Oh, well!

That was sweet. I caught the end of the game during an intermission in a college hockey game.

That being said, it was the first NHL i've watched this year, and I realized why-its just not all that exciting. Still too much stick work, still too much holding. If you get a chance, try to catch a NCAA game, especially in the WCHA-they have cut down on everything-any stick work gets called, and there's next to no holding-the result is pretty wide open and really lets the skill guys play.

Add: I forgot to mention that it spells "SENS". Yes, "SENS". First, for a team that prides itself on being bilingual, well, it's not so fantastic. More strikingly, though... it's not the team's name! It seems... wrong to me. So, yeah, poor choice, which has nothing to do with the poverty of the design, but is still not so good.

Really? Where did you hear/read that?

Habs isn't the team name of the Canadiens either, but it gets used more than the word Canadiens. Lots of professional Sports Teams have slang or nicknames that aren't their real team name. Don't see what the issue with that is.

Isn't having two official team names (the only NHL franchise to do it) evidence enough? Their web site is bilingual, publicity is bilingual, their arena's name is written in two languages at the center of the ice, etc. It seems pretty obvious to me that they make an effort to reach out to the French community.

And I'd be thoroughly pissed if the Canadiens had "HABS" written on their jersey. My issue is not that teams have nicknames, it's that they use them on their official uniforms. Other than a team's logo, I can't think of anything that visually represents a hockey team more than a uniform, and as such I think it just makes sense to keep the uniforms "official".

The reason for all the bilingualism comes more from location than from the Team deciding they would pride themself on being bilingual. They're in Ottawa, the Nations Capital. Try living here for a while, which I have done since April, and see how many things here are bilingual. Trust me, it's not because everyone and everything "Prides" themselves on being bilingual. It's a little thing called Law, as in this country is bilinual. If our Nations Capital isn't setting the example, then who will?

Well, ok, they're not going around saying "We're bilingual!!!", but still, they don't have a legal obligation to do what they do. I think they usually make the effort, and I laud them for it. However, "SENS" isn't really showing the example .

I've been to Ottawa over a dozen times in my life, and it is very reminiscent of where I grew up, the West of Montréal, where an English majority and a French minority coexist.

I don't see where you're getting at, frankly...

You don't see that living/existing/operating a business/doing business in Ottawa brings with it a certain expectation to be bilingual or use bilingualism? It's pretty simple logic, and exactly like I said in my previous thread - it's the Capital of a bilingual Nation - if the example doesn't come from the Capital, where will it come from?

You don't like the uniforms, your prerogative, and you made that point.

I do like them, my prerogative, and I made that point.

Maybe you should write to the Senators and express your displeasure, I'm sure they'll get right on it.

I don't see what you're getting at, frankly...

Agreed. Basically the uniforms are a love ti or hate it thing, and Ottawa has both languages on pretty much everything (along with pretty much the Eastern half of Ontario...wish quebec would do that too but I digress)

Now back to Hockey.
