enough of the Beaneater's jokes!!! We are going to run a contest (pending league approval) to come up with a more appropriate name for the "Best Team in Boston".
and I am still "searching" for the real potential of this team also, offense is down this year and pitching (of all things) is better compared to the rest of the league which recent draftees are mostly responsible: ************************************************** ***** Darby O'Brien, Starting Pitcher, Drafted in 1st round, 15th overall pick, by Boston (N) in 1906. Only 6-5 but with a 2.34 ERA and with 10 of 11 complete game with 8 of 11 quality starts. ************************************************** ***** Vive Lindaman, Starting Pitcher, Drafted in 2nd round, 31st overall pick, by Boston (N) in 1906 Another not so great record of 5-5 but not great but not shabby ERA of 3.24 ************************************************** ***** Veteran Chagnon has gone 5-0 (all starts ALL CG) as a 4th starter with an ERA of 2.00 (he's gonna move up in the rotation for sure). I think we've got the arms and the firepower to win this one, we need the "real" Mr. Boston (Frank Robinson) to get on a hot streak and we will be unstoppable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trade Deadline Update 1906
GIANTS CLIMB BACK INTO TOP SPOT
With a 39-16 after June 1, the New York Giants have roared into the lead in the National League pennant chase. The Gotham nine had been off to a mediocre start in their quest to defend their World Championship, sitting at 20-21 after the first month and a half of the season, with atrocious pitching being the main reason. Well, the pitching has improved - some - but the offense has scored more runs than any other team in BaTTY, giving the Giants the surge they needed to pull in front. They currently lead Brooklyn by a pair of games, and Boston by seven. BIG CATS IN CHARGE IN JUNIOR LOOP The Detroit Tigers are well on their way to successfully defending the AL Pennant they won in 1905. They hold a seven game lead on both the Athletics and Senators. As usual with the Tigers, the pitching leads the way, but it's not Matt Kilroy leading the way this time around. While Kilroy (16-13, 3.45 ERA) looks human after several years of domination, the mantle of staff ace has fallen on lefty Randy Jones who is posting Pitcher of the Year type numbers: 19-7, 1.89 ERA. With Jones, Kilroy and Andy Hassler (16-10, 2.49) anchoring the staff, and the potent bat of Kirby Puckett (.369-2-52) heading up the offense, the Tigers will be tough to overtake in the season's final two months. JOHNSON'S SWOON HAS ANSON BACK IN HIS ACCUSTOMED PLACE Nick Johnson managed to hit .274 in June and .308 in July, dropping his seasonal mark to .344 after leading the league on June 1 with a .415 mark. Johnson's swoon has opened up the top spot in the NL's hitting chart and jumping right back into it was Cincinnati's Cap Anson, who leads with a .389 average - below his usual herculean mark, but back on top. Detroit's Puckett leads the AL with Cleveland's Joe DiMaggio second at .362 in the Junior Circuit.

Is Cleveland still available? Last update looks like it's open but not sure if anyone grabbed them. Mostly a lurker here lately but this looks great and would love to get in if I can.

Cleveland is indeed still open. PM me some contact info and I'll let you know how you can take over the team.

It looks like BaTTY's career home run leader (entering 1906) is coming to his demise.
Perhaps most suprising is that in BaTTY's first 5 years, Jimmy Outlaw has slugged the most homers (40). Especially since he only hit 6 in real life. I guess the deadball and Washington's park agreed with him. Outlaw's ratings have degraded horribly this year, and Curt Blefary just hit his 42nd to pass him. |

The real "Mr Boston" (aka Frank Robinson) would have at least 60 if he wasn't playing in the Death Valley in Boston.

Joe....2 questions:
1) Will you be turning injuries on soon? 2) When will we go to 4 man rotations? Some of the IP Totals are getting disgusting....more 19th Century level than early 20th. I would suggest 4-man, highest rested.... starting next season. Injuries should probably be at Very Low for a season or two, then cranked up a notch in 1909, until we hit Normal around 1911 |

You're right about the pitching too - might as well make that switch effective for next season as well. And in other news, NYJuggalo45 has signed up as the new GM of Cleveland - giving us a full complement of GMs.

End of Regular Season - 1906
BROOKLYN AND WASHINGTON TO FACE OFF IN WORLD SERIES
The up-and-down season continued for the Giants. Mediocre at the start, great in the middle, but mediocre again at the end, the defending world champs were overtaken by both Boston and Brooklyn and finished third, five games behind the Brooks. The Superbas put together a fine season, finishing tops in BaTTY in hitting (.277) and home runs (52) on the offensive side and first in runs allowed (523) and second in ERA (2.73) on the pitching side. Boston finished strong, but ended up three games back of the Superbas. In the American League, Washington rode the league's stingiest pitching staff (2.72 ERA) and some solid hitting (679 runs scored - best in BaTTY) to the American League flag, passing the defending AL champion Tigers, who had led the league for most of the campaign. The Tigers fell off the pace despite outstanding pitching, because their offense failed to match the pitchers' efforts during August and September. Looking at the upcoming World Series, this appears to be a clash of titans. The Senators feature three twenty-game winners with a fourth (Steve Woodard) sitting at 19 victories as well as a talented offense built around George Scott (.320, 25 steals), Oscar Azocar (.309-4-77) and Gene Richards (.320-5-63). The Superbas were, pun intended, superb this season, with slugging Curt Blefary (.303-13-92) and Bill Greenwood (.318-7-70) leading a dangerous offense and a mound corps headed up by Danny Jackson (23-12, 1.96). Tiger outfielder Kirby Puckett won the AL batting crown with a .366 average, while the NL hit king was once again Cap Anson of the Reds, who hit .399 - the first time in his career that he has failed to top the .400 mark (though he sure did come close). Three Finger Brown went 29-19 to lead the NL in wins, while Jackson's 1.96 ERA for Brooklyn was tops in that category. Top AL hurlers? The Tigers Randy Jones was 25-12 to lead in victories - his team mate Andy Hassler's 2.32 ERA was the best mark in that category.

Should be a good series. Both teams rank either #1 or #2 in pitching and offense.

sigh, the "beaneaters" are closer but still....
always next year (and we did have a "significantly" better year than that pseudo-Boston team in the AL)

1906 World Series & GM Standings
SUPERBAS DOWN SENATORS IN EXCITING SEVEN-GAME SERIES
The Brooklyn Superbas overcame a slow start that saw them drop the first two games of the World Series at home to take four of the next five and defeat the Washington Senators in seven games for the franchise's first World Series championship. Series MVP Nick Johnson (.355), Todd Benzinger (.333) and Lou Finney (.323) led the way for the Superbas while Javier Valentin was 2-1, including the win in the decisive game seven. The Senators' Fred Tenney was the Series' best hitter, with a .471 average. WHITE SOX STRIKE IT LUCKY IN LOTTERY The Chicago White Sox, who finished with the third-worst record in BaTTY won the first overall pick for the 1907 draft in the league's annual draft lottery. The most likely candidate for the first overall pick appears to be southpaw hurler Warren Spahn, although there are plenty of good players available in the draft. GM STANDINGS Code:
