Ouch, thats horrible luck for Sullivan. I'm interested in seeing how long Gibbons can keep that undefeated streak going.

Title Fights

MW - Al McCoy (7/6) (17-1) (pre) scored a TKO7 win over George Ashe (21/30) (15-1-1) (pre) for his second defense of the USBA MW title.

Both fighters suffered cuts over their left eyes. Ashe suffered his in the second and it was reopened or worsened every round until it was stopped in the 7th.

I had it 59-55 at the stoppage.

LW - Freddie Welsh (4/4) (24-8-1) scored a UTD8 over James Curran (42/49) (16-10) for his 4th defense of the CBU LW title.

Curran was cut over the left eye in the 8th from an accidental head butt. It was reopened badly in the 9th and the ref stopped the fight.

I had it 79-74 at the stoppage as did two of the official judges, the third had it 77-76.

Other Fights

HW - Al Withers (UR) (13-0) KO8 Tony Vassar (131/141) (8-10-2) 68-64 (both fighters at pre, Withers scored his 29th and 30th knockdowns in this fight)

LW - Charley White (29/26) (20-10-4) SD10 Eddie Carroll (87/91) (16-8) (carroll at pre)

Title Fights

BW - Johnny Coulon (CH) (35-4-2) scored a UD15 win over Al Delmont (12/13) (26-12-3) for his 3rd defense of the WBA BW title.

Coulon built a big lead through the middle rounds then held on at the end to win the fight. Delmont was cut over his left eye in the 8th. Delmont rallied at the end taking the last two rounds but it wasn't enough.

I had it 144-141 while the official judges saw it 144-141/145-142/144-140.

HW - Black Bill (9/8) (19-1) (pre) scored a TKO6 win over Sailor Burke (8/21) (19-2) (pre) to win the vacant USBA HW title.

There were a lot of close rounds but Bill was getting the better of Burke through out. Burke's nose was bloodied in the 2nd and worsened every round until it was stopped in the 6th.

I had it 50-47 at the stoppage.

Other fights

LHW - Bob Sweeney (UR) (11-0) KO2 Tom Parks (36/42) (12-11-2) 10-9 Sweeney (both at pre)

LW - Aurelio Herrera (8/7) (26-11) KO1 Arthur Cote (86/90) (16-10-2)

Herrera dropped Cote twice and had out scored him 25-0 when Cote didn't get back up from the second knockdown.

HW - James Corbett (6/5) (36-11-3) UD10 Charles Horn (UR/67) (11-3-1) (Horn at pre)

LW - Young Erne (78/59) (21-10-1) UD10 Barney Donovan (75/87) (28-23-2) 97-95 Erne (donovan at post)

Title Fights

FW - Benny Yanger (CH) (26-4) scored a TKO7 in a slugfest with Jimmy Dime (13/19) (21-8-2) for his first defense of the WBA FW title.

Yanger was in control of the fight but Dime got his shots in. Yanger's right eye started to swell in the 3rd. Dime's right eye started to swell in the 6th. Dime went down in the 7th, then his left eye started to swell, then he was cut under his left eye and the ref stopped the fight.

I had it 59-56 at the stoppage

FLY - Joseph "Louisiana" Biderburg (3/1) (15-2-5) (pre) scored a DQ 9 in a foul plagued fight with Grover Hayes (1/2) (19-2-1) to win the USBA Flyweight title.

Hayes was warned and penalized a point in the first. He was warned twice more before Eddie Cotton stopped the fight. Biderburg was also warned three times. Cotton isn't known for DQ's as that was only his 4th in over 300 fights reffed.

I had it 76-75 Hayes at the stoppage.

Other Fights

Title Fights

FW - Cal McCarthy (CH) (26-6) scored an easy UD15 over inexperienced Tommy O'Toole (17/22) (17-5) (pre) for his 3rd defense of the WBC FW title.

McCarthy won nearly every round and knocked O'Toole down 4 times but couldn't stop him. I had it 149-132, the official judges saw it 149-133/148-133/149-132.

Tourney fight

MW - George Chip (21/10) (18-2-1) (pre) scored a TKO4 over Jack Fogarty (7/13) (22-5-1) when Fogarty appeared to break his hand and couldn't continue.

Chip was doing well in the fight before the stoppage. I had it 30-28 for Chip. Chip will move onto the second round of the WBO title tourney to face Jeff Clarke in December.

Other fights

HW - Jack Martin (UR) (9-0-1) UD8 Black Paddy (UR) (3-7) 80-72 (both at pre in this club fight)

Langford last fought in September so he has only been off one month. I never plan ahead on fights unless there is a title tourney going on, so all I know is he will fight the highest ranked fighter who is scheduled to fight and who has won his last fight.

Title Tourney

LHW - This fight was the main event over a regional title match because of the participants.

Bob McAllister (7/4) (21-3) scored a TKO7 over Georges Carpentier (4/8) (24-5) to advance to the second round of the WBA LHW tourney. Unfortunately it means he meets Jack Dillon in December.

The first few rounds were close and then McAllister had a big 5th and 6th round. It continued into the 7th when Carpentier was on the ropes and not fighting back. The ref had no choice but to stop it. There were no knockdowns or cuts. I had it 59-57 for McAllister at the stoppage.

Title Fight

FW - Patsy Brannigan (9/9) (18-1-3) (pre) fought to a DRAW12 with Jerry Barnett (11/11) (21-8-1) for the vacant USBA FW title. The two will fight again in December. Unfortunately for Barnett, Brannigan moved to prime after the fight.

There were no knockdowns but Brannigan was cut over the right eye in the 6th. Barnett had built a pretty good lead but Brannigan finished strong winning the last 3 rounds. I had it 115-114 for Barnett, two of the official judges had it 114-114 while Barnett's dad scored it 117-111.

Other fights

LW - George Dawson (UR) (12-0) UD8 Tom Dunn (113/116) (12-12-1) 79-72 (Dawson at pre)

WW - Matty Baldwin (29/23) (19-6-1) UD10 Tom Meadows (49/53) (13-9)

LW - Danny Duane (48/45) (19-14-5) Draw10 Leach Cross (14/14) (18-12-2)

BW - Willie Schumacher (32/25) (18-3-1) TKO5 Johnny Ritchie (21/28) (18-6-4) (schumacher at pre)

This was the last card of the month.

With the addition of the 1972 guys at the beginning of October ... two of my all-time favs joined the LBA. JLW Bazooka Limon and FW Bobby Chacon.

I will follow these guys a bit closer (as well as Marvin Johnson when he joins next year).

Limon seems to have an easier path at the start since the JLW division is just forming. He is one of ten fighters in it right now. Once they start to get into the main division I will move some fighters up from FW or down from LW. Probably at the end of 1913.

Limon has yet to fight in the first two months he has been in the LBA.

Bobby Chacon has fought both months and is 2-0 with 2 KO's over TC's. He has a first round KO and a second round KO.

WW - Jimmy Fryer scored another win over a TC this month to run his record to 19-0. He is still pre-prime. He has won 14 by KO and has knocked his opponents down 34 times. He has never been off his feet.

He has not fought many non-TC's but a good start either way.
