Robert James Anderson
Robert James "Bobby" Anderson, SS/2B, is shown in the uniform of the Chicago Giants. The photo of Robert posted previously on this thread showed him in an unidentified uniform. However, I have now concluded that the previous photo was a head shot from this same photo, so the earlier photo also showed him with the Chicago Giants.

Robert Miller
Robert "Bob" or "Ruby" or "Jim" Miller, 3B/SS, is shown in the uniform of the Chicago American Giants. This player is a bit of a puzzle. Seamheads.com calls this player Robert "Bob" or "Rudy" Miller and indicates that he played for the Birmingham Black Barons (1923) and Memphis Red Sox (1924 and 1928). Yet Seamheads displays a head shot of this same 1927 Chicago American Giants photo for their record display on Robert Miller. That's their only tie to the American Giants. The caption for the 1927 American Giants team photo calls the player "Jim Miller." But I can't find any record of a Jim Miller in the Negro Leagues, so I've concluded that he is the same guy as Robert Miller.

Stanford Jackson
Quote:
I've attached another image of Stanford Jackson. The quality of these images makes it difficult to do comparisons, but to my eyes, there is a difference in the ear structures between the two images on this page for Stanford Jackson and the one for Robert Miller. I could certainly be wrong about that, but I think they are two different players. Last edited by tnfoto; 01-14-2023 at 01:34 PM. Reason: Corrected page reference after reinstating thread |

John Smith
John "Johnny" or "Lefty" Smith, OF/1B/P, is shown in the uniform of the Chicago American Giants. According to James Riley's Encyclopedia, John Smith was with the American Giants from 1943 through 1945. I'm going by Riley's account on this one, as John Smith is not listed in the Clark/Lester Negro Baseball Register and the Seamheads.com database doesn't run as late as the 1940's. The photo is from 1944.

John Ritchey
John Ritchey, C, is shown in the uniform of the Chicago American Giants. It's not a great shot of John, but it's the first one I've seen of him in a confirmed Negro League uniform. The others have been in minor league uniforms or unidentified.
